Jameson, Lake H.
CLEMSON — Lake Hugh Jameson, 82, of 107 Crestwood Drive died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002.
A native of Easley, he was retired professor emeritus in the College of Engineering at Clemson University having taught for 34 years. He was a graduate of Easley High School, where he was a member of the first State Championship football team and was selected as All State and played on the first Shrine Bowl Team.
He was a 1942 graduate of Clemson A&M College, where he played on the 1940 Cotton Bowl football team and received his master's degree from N.C. State University. He was inducted into the Easley High School Athletic Hall of Fame and the City of Easley Hall of Fame.
He was a B-17 Pilot with the 8th Air Force in England during World War II and shot down over France and a POW in Germany for 15 months. He retired as lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force Reserves in 1960.
Surviving are widow, Ruth Bird Jameson of the home; sons, Lake H. Jameson Jr., MD of Clemson and Ronald Bird Jameson of Spartanburg; daughter, Cynthia J. Stoddard of Palm City, Fla.; brother, John Hal Jameson Sr., MD of Easley; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
He was the son of the late Leo Lake Jameson MD and Nettie Ellison Jameson. He was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Jameson Carson.
Graveside services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cemetery Hill. Memorial services are at 2:30 p.m. at Clemson United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church. The body is at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home in Central.

Curtis, Werdna
COLUMBIA — Graveside service for Dorothy Werdna Ortmann Curtis, 84, will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Elmwood Memorial Gardens. Dunbar Funeral Home, Gervais Street Chapel, is in charge. Memorials may be made to the Carolina Children's Home.
Mrs. Curtis died Sunday, November 3, 2002. Born in Anderson, she was a daughter of the late Fredrick W. Ortmann, Sr., and Jessie Kennedy Ortmann. Mrs. Curtis, devoted to her profession, retired from Crafts Farrow Hospital and served in many offices of the local, district, and state nurses associations. She graduated from Columbia Hospital School of Nursing and also was a past president of Columbia Hospital Alumna Association. She also served as Delta Zeta Mother at the University of South Carolina for four years and was presented the Mother's Pin for her dedication and service to the Chapter. She also is listed in Who's Who in American Women. She was a member of Petersen Presbyterian Church and was a past circle chairman.
Surviving are daughter, Sue Curtis Todd of Columbia; brother, Fred W. Ortmann, Jr., of Sumter; sister, Betty O. Barrett of Columbia; three grandchildren, Patricia Todd Carson and her husband Bob, Tracy Todd and Terri Todd Armstrong and her husband Tom; two great grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.
Carlson, 'Woody'
ANDERSON — Randolph Sherwood "Woody" Carlson, 55, of 509 Woodland Way died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, at the Anderson Area Medical Center.
Born in Washington, D.C., he was employed with Sterling Advertising in Greenville. He graduated from T.L. Hanna High School, attended Anderson College, the University of South Carolina and Oxford University. He worked in commercial advertising and was a published creative writer, having received several ADDY awards for excellence in advertising. He was also a member of the National Guard.
Surviving are daughter, Mindy Carlson of Anderson, and a sister, Diana Carlson James of Anderson.
He was the son of the late Randolph Sherwood Carlson Sr. and Maryellen Thompson Langmaid.
Memorial services are at 4 p.m. Saturday in the chapel Gray Mortuary, Pelzer, with the Rev. Mark Burchette. Committal services will follow in the Williamston Cemetery.
The family will be at the home of Elizabeth Thompson, 401 Boulevard, Anderson.
Bannister, Barbara
WARE SHOALS — Barbara Hopkins Finley Bannister, 55, of Session Shores, Iva, died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a member of Carswell Baptist Church in Iva and had been employed by Patrick B. Harris.
Surviving are widower, Duanne Banister of the home; sons, Michael Emmett Finley of Ware Shoals, Rodney Finley of Donalds and Hazen Bannister Jr. of Honea Path; daughter, Roxanne Copeland of Anderson; brothers, Raymond Hopkins of Hartwell, Ga., and Johnny Hopkins of Ware Shoals; sister, Polly Hendricks of Ware Shoals; and six grandchildren.
She was the daughter of the late John and Pauline Hopkins. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles E. Finley.
Services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Parker-White Funeral Home by the Rev. Hudson White; burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Westmoreland, Marvin

TOCCOA, Ga. — William Marvin Westmoreland, 84, of 1205 Tugalo St. died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, at the Toccoa Nursing Center in Toccoa.
Born in Stephens County, where he lived all of his life. He was a retired supervisor from Coats and Clark, Spooling Department. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Curtis Men's Bible Class, Men's Club, served on the Administrative Board at the church, in which he was an honorary member at the time of his death.
He was a member of the Toccoa Masonic Lodge and a lifetime member of the Shrine Club. He was a former Boy Scout leader and one of the founders of the Toccoa Little League.
Surviving are widow, Maida Collier Westmoreland of the home; daughter, Judy Whitworth of Martin; sons, Tim Westmoreland of Toccoa, Collier Westmoreland of Norcross and Al Westmoreland of Calhoun; brother, Evander Westmoreland of Oregon; sister, Geneva Means of Clayton; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was the son of the late Oscar and Noma Todd Westmoreland. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Zelman Westmoreland, Thurmond Westmoreland and W.J. Westmoreland; and two sisters, Opal Thomas and Merle Bernard.
Services are at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church by the Revs. Jim Bocian, Jack Land and Claude Smithmier; burial will be in the Toccoa City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home.

CORNELIA, Ga. — Martha London Weaver, 73, of Cornelia died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Born in White County, she was a homemaker and a member of Return Baptist Church.
Surviving are daughters, Dottie Carlan of Homer, Glenda Smith of Cornelia and Shirley Meyn of Demorest; brothers, Robert London of Cleveland, Harold London of Demorest and Marvin London of Sharpsburg; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchildren.
She was the widow of James W. "Jim" Weaver and the daughter of the late Frank and Lola Smith London. She was preceded in death by two brothers, James London and Terrell London; and two sisters, Della Mae London and Pearl London.
Services are at 4 p.m. Monday in the chapel of McGahee-Griffin-Stewart Funeral Home by the Rev. Wilmer Ivester; burial will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family received friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Martin, John

ANDERSON — John Henry Martin, 83, of 143 Westwood Circle died Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, at Richard Campbell Veterans Nursing Home in Anderson.
Born in Abbeville County, he was a member of Bethel AME Church, where he served on the trustee board, as a class leader and as a steward. He attended Reed Street School and was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving are widow, Corrie Mae Sullivan Martin of the home; and a sister, Cleo Reed of North Carolina.
He was the son of the late John Frank Martin and Viola Martin Clinkscales.
Services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bethel AME Church by the Rev. Casey Childs, III; burial will follow in Anderson Memorial Gardens. No wake is planned. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

CLARKESVILLE, Ga. — Jeff Lewallen, 84, of Clarkesville died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, at a private nursing home.
Born in Franklin County, he was a sawmiller and was formerly employed with Carwood Manufacturing and International Outerwear. He was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church.
Surviving are widow, Lucille Segers Lewallen of Clarkesville; daughters, Jimmie Ruth Wood and Carol Jane Hollifield, both of Clarkesville; son, Tommie Russell Lewallen of Mt. Airy; sisters, Izora Stephens of Commerce and Mary Howington of Monroe; brothers, Bill Lewallen and Major Banks Lewallen, both of Homer; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was the son of the late William Russell and Lula Segars Lewallen. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Jess Lewallen, Horace Lewallen and Carlton Lewallen; and two sisters, Roberta Lewallen and Clara Lewallen.
Services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Macedonia Baptist Church by the Revs. Raymond Payne and Brion Williams; burial will follow in the church cemetery with the Rev. John Humphries officiating at the graveside. The family will receive friends at the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

HOMER, Ga. — Thomas K. Kesler Sr., 80, of 165 Sycamore St. died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, at his residence.
Born in Franklin County, he was retired from Athens Tech and was a World War II Army veteran. He was attended New Bethel Baptist Church and also attended Homer United Methodist Church.
Surviving are son, Tommy Kesler of Mobile, Ala.; daughters, Susan Childress of Sylva, N.C., Sandra Garrison of Homer and Elizabeth Williams of Nicholson; brother, Curtis Kesler of Walnut Creek, Calif.; sister, Celeste Spears of Fort Walton Beach; and 12 grandchildren.
He was the widower of Virginia Ford Kesler and the daughter of the late Russell D. Kesler and Dora "Kelly" Kesler.
Services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, by the Rev. Jim McLendon and Dr. Tommy Childress; burial in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Foster, B. Loraine

ANDERSON — Blanche Loraine Foster, age 83, formerly of Raintree Apartments, and widow of the late Claude D. Foster, died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at the Hospice House.
Born Feb. 2, 1919, in Chicago, Mrs. Foster was the daughter of the late Henry Harris Ward and the late Blanche Heybach Ward. She retired as a secretary from the National College of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Washington. Mrs. Foster was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
She was loved and will be remembered by many family members including, two nieces, Pat Witteveen of Carol Stream, Illinois and Bonnie Ward of Colorado and a nephew, William "Bill" Hunter of Barrington, Illinois. Beside her parents and her husband, a brother, Bud Ward and sister, Mary Hunter, preceded her in death.
A memorial service will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. with Father James Dubrouillet officiating. Inurnment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Baumgarner, Eunice
WEST UNION — Eunice McKee Baumgarner, 77, of 140 Granny B. Drive died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at the Oconee Memorial Hospital.
A native of Oconee County, she was a retired employee of the Kendall Company and a member of Welcome Wesleyan Church.
Surviving are sons, Dennis Baumgarner and Terry Baumgarner, both of West Union and Gary Baumgarner of Easley; sisters, Jessie Loudermilk and Christine Albertson, both of Walhalla; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was the widow of Carsie Alexander Baumgarner and the daughter of the late James B. and Stella Lee Alexander McKee. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Ralph McKee, Lawrence McKee, J.B. McKee and James McKee.
Services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Davenport Funeral Home, Walhalla; burial in the Oconee Memorial Park. The body is at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday.

He was the son of the late Glen Watts and Alice B. Jones Watts.

ANDERSON — John Thomas Waters, 62,of 210 Pine Lane died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at Anderson Area Medical Center.
Born in Easley, he was retired as a barber at the Belvedere Barber Shop. He attended North Anderson Community Church-Presbyterian. He was a member of the Anderson Radio Club and was a 35 year member of the Anderson YMCA.
Surviving are widow, Carolyn Dover Waters of the home; sons, John Anthony Waters and Reginald Neal Waters, both of Anderson; daughter, Donna Jean Smith of Pendleton; brother, Bill Waters of Anderson; sister, Margaret Gravely of Easley; and six grandchildren.
He was the son of the late Boyce Lee Waters and Dorthula Porter Waters. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin and "Bunny" Waters.
