WALTERBORO - Mr. Ira Donald Pooser, 57, died Friday at Colleton Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the chapel of the Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Walter Doyle officiating. Interment will follow in Live Oak Cemetery.
Mr. Pooser was born in Charleston County, a son of Ira D. Pooser and Margie Drawdy Pooser. He was a retired deputy sheriff with the Colleton County Sheriff's Department. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, a member of First Baptist Church, and a member of Unity Lodge #55, A.F.M.
Surviving in addition to his parents of Charleston are a daughter and son-in-law, Allison and Lanier Crosby of Ruffin, a brother and sister-in-law, Gerald and Frances Pooser of Charleston, and a granddaughter, Jalyn Shae Crosby. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Pooser.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday at the BRICE W. HERNDON AND SONS FUNERAL HOME.

John Herschel Cass, Jr., 77, a retired optician and husband of Marcella Murphy Cass died Wednesday, December 5, 2001 at his residence. MICRO, N.C. - Mozelle Norris Jones, age 73, died Thursday as a result of an automobile accident. Born in Johnston County on August 20, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Troy and Nannie Stewart Norris. She and her late husband, Rev. Orville B. Jones, were affiliated with several Free Will Baptist Churches in North Carolina and was loved by all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of PARRISH FUNERAL HOME in Selma, N.C. with burial following in the Branch Chapel Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.
Surviving are sons, Greg Jones and wife Ruth of Climax, N.C., Ronny Jones and wife Brenda of Julian, N.C.; daughters, Carol Bauer of Mt. LAKE CITY - Mr. Donald Francis Jones, 51, died Wednesday, December 5, 2001.
Mr. Jones was born in Lake City, a son of Donald Felix Jones and Barbara Rush. He was a graduate of McClenaghan High School and Coastal Carolina University. He attended Lake City First Baptist Church and was a Marine veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his father and step-mother, Donald and Nancy Jones of Olanta; his mother, Barbara Rush of Florence; one sister, Beverly Ruth Jones of Columbia and one brother, Rev. Gary Nelson Jones of Charleston. He was predeceased by his wife, Julie Preston Jones and a son, Eli Francis Jones.
Graveside service will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, December 9, 2001, in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Florence.

ANDERSON - Jewel Elizabeth Sawyer Spitz, 81, of 905 Meadow Lane, died Thursday, December 6, 2001 at her residence.
Born in Johnston, S.C., she was a graduate of Coker College. She worked with the Interstate Commerce Commission in Washington, D.C., the Census Bureau and Head Start Program, and was a travel consultant. She served as a Pink Lady at Anderson Area Medical Center for a number of years. Jewel was a member of Central Presbyterian Church.
She was the daughter of the late L.S. and Nell Watson Sawyer and was preceded in death by a son, Dr. William "Billy" Spitz, a brother, Shep Sawyer, and a sister, Ruth Day.
Jewel is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Dr. Arthur H. "Artie" Spitz of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Anne and Michael Holliman of Dalton, Ga.; son, Dr. Tom Spitz of Charleston; grandchildren, Brent Clark of Lexington, S.C., Jason Holliman of Marietta, Ga., Elizabeth Spitz, a student at Davidson College, Caroline Spitz, a student at Presbyterian College; Elizabeth and Caroline's mother, Cornelia Spitz of Charleston; two sisters, Lois Stembridge of Tryon, N.C. and Inez Granger of Columbia, S.C.

Mr. Ward was born May 2, 1920, in Williamsburg County, a son of Sampson Ward and Louise Barrineau Ward; a retired 32 years employee of International Paper Company, Georgetown Mill, where he was a Quarter Century Club member; a member and former past president of the Hutson Bay Hunting Club; and was a member of Andrews First Pentecostal Holiness Church where he served in the Men's Fellowship, Men's Sunday School Class, and Chancel choir. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a wonderful grandfather, and a dedicated Christian.
He was predeceased by a brother, Levy Bryant Ward, and a sister, Tinker W. Pierce.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, Lena Mae Driggers Ward of Andrews, are, one son, Phillip R. Ward and his wife, Nanette, of Andrews; one daughter, Mary Sue W. Mrs. DeBow was born April 13, 1912, in Westford, Mass., the daughter of the late Fred and Helena Kilmister Naylor. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church and was a retired registered nurse. She also spent a number of years doing missionary work with her husband in Bolivia, South America, Costa Rica, Central America and Mombasa, Kenya. Later they worked 15 years with Campus Crusade for Christ in a prison ministry in Ventura, Calif.
Surviving her are two daughters, Bethany Sibert of Hanahan, S.C., and Lois-Ruth Fettig of Upland, Calif.; two sisters, Helena Lisle and Beulah Naylor both of Monrovia, Calif.; five grandchildren, Cary John Bowser, Chad Wayne Bowser and Stephen Sibert, all of California, Greg Sibert of Goose Creek, S.C., and Julie Ann Blakemore of New Zion, S.C.; 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Meyers was born August 2, 1928, in Prosperity, S.C., the daughter of John Silas Riddle and Mary Ruth Harman Riddle. She attended schools in South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, and North Carolina, where she graduated from Berry Hill High School in Charlotte. Mrs. Meyers worked on the Charleston waterfront for 38 1/2 years. Was employed at the S.C. State Ports Authority and with Rogers & Brown Custom House Brokers. Mrs. Meyers was a team leader and the first retiree of Rogers & Brown with a dinner with the officials and the local office personnel. She helped found the Women's Transportation Club of Charleston where she served as a past President. She was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her husband, Claude E. Meyers of Hanahan; Godson, James T. Dickerson, Jr., of Macedonia; a sister, Linda R. Dickerson of North Charleston; three nieces, Nancy Whitehead Ware of Martinez, Ga., Margie Whitehead Coker of Cayce, S.C., and Lisa Riddle Lewis of North Charleston; four nephews, Thomas W. Marilyn Brown Neth, 72, of Charleston, died Thursday, December 6th at her home in Charleston, SC after a lengthy battle with cancer. Mrs. Neth was born March 20, 1929 in Lake Butler, Florida, the daughter of Eurie and Hazel Greene Brown. She attended Union County, Florida public schools and was a 1951 graduate of Florida Southern College. Mrs. Neth taught at John Cox Elementary and, for many years, Central Avenue Elementary School. She was a member of the Roper Hospital Auxiliary and Delta Zeta sorority and formerly belonged to First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Lakeland. Mrs. Neth is survived by her husband of 50 years, Carl N. Neth, one daughter, Susan Neth Howell and husband Scott, two granddaughters, Caroline Cullom Howell and Rebecca Reed Howell, all of Charleston, SC. Leland was a former resident of Isle of Palms, S.C. He retired from Trailways Bus Company in 1963 then joining the family business in S.C. He was devoted to his family and a member of Englewood Methodist Church.
