Lt. Rudolph Melvin Dempsey, 79, husband of Vivian Wiggins Dempsey, of 211 McSwain Drive, died December 8, 2001. Born in Beaufort County, he was a son of the late Julius W. and Rose Nell Stone Dempsey. Mr. Dempsey retired as a Lieutenant with the State Highway Patrol after 38 years of service. He was stationed in Florence, Charleston, Lancaster, Spartanburg and Greenville. He was a member of Overbrook Baptist Church, a Shriner, a member of the Scottish Rite Temple, Clemson IPTAY and the South Carolina Troopers Association. He served in the U.S. Navy for eight years. Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Patricia Smith of Summit, NJ, and Pamela Simpson and her husband, David, of Greenville; one sister, Frances Stern of California; two brothers, Jack and Davis Dempsey, both of Beaufort; six grandchildren, Jeffrey, Meredith, and David Smith, and Tyler, Lauren and Christopher Simpson. He was predeceased by two brothers, Charles and Malcolm Dempsey. Services will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Overbrook Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Lance and the Rev. Marilyn Brown Neth, 72, of Charleston, died Thursday, December 6th at her home in Charleston, SC after a lengthy battle with cancer. Mrs. Neth was born March 20, 1929 in Lake Butler, Florida, the daughter of Eurie and Hazel Greene Brown. She attended Union County, Florida public schools and was a 1951 graduate of Florida Southern College. Mrs. Neth taught at John Cox Elementary and, for many years, Central Avenue Elementary School. She was a member of the Roper Hospital Auxiliary and Delta Zeta sorority and formerly belonged to First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Lakeland. Mrs. Neth is survived by her husband of 50 years, Carl N. Neth, one daughter, Susan Neth Howell and husband Scott, two granddaughters, Caroline Cullom Howell and Rebecca Reed Howell, all of Charleston, SC. Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday, December 9th at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) on Orange Grove Rd., in Charleston. Dustin L. Roberts, 28, of Goose Creek, died Saturday, December 8, 2001. Born July 19, 1973 in Aurora, Colo. he was the son of Lawrence E. "Larry" and Pamela S. Roberts (nee Morin). Dustin was a 1991 graduate of Chatfield High School, Littleton, Colo. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business from Western State College, Gunnison, Colo. and was a member of Delta Zeta Pi business fraternity and Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity. After graduation he began his career with Mellon Mortgage and later was employed by Chase Manhattan Bank as a loan finance officer. He is survived by his parents, two sisters: Francyne and her husband Joel A. Altman, and Amanda Roberts all of Goose Creek; maternal grandmother Irene Morin and paternal grandparents: Edmond and Rita Roberts, all of Damar, Kan.; uncles, aunts and numerous cousins. A Mass of Christian Liturgy will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 12, 2001 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 510 St. James Ave., Goose Creek. The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 11, 2001 from 6-8 p.m. with a Rosary service beginning at 7 p.m. at the church. SUMTER, S.C. - James Luther Tucker, 52, died Monday, December 10, 2001 at the Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late William James Tucker and the late Rotha Mae Richburg Tucker.
Mr. Tucker was a heavy construction equipment operator.
Surviving are a daughter, April Denise Tucker of Summerville; four sisters, Laura Sims of Sumter, Shirley Bryant of Manning, Emma Joyner of Alcolu and Geraldine Puckett of High Point, N.C.; two brothers, Tommy Tucker of Pinewood and Michael Tucker of Sumter; and one grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Dan Richburg.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the June Burn Cemetery in Manning with Rev. Buddy Griffith, Rev. Carl Miles, Rev. Cecil Tucker and Rev. Dan Helvey officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home and other times at 964 Meadowbrook Road.

Surviving are, Covert Boyd Nelson of Summerville; daughters, Kathleen McCutcheon of New York, Audrey Finch of Macedonia, Mary Curtis of Cottageville; brothers, Harold Black of Wagner, Charles Black of Augusta, Ga., Ernest Black of Augusta, Ga.; 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren.
