Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 15, 2001, at 11 o'clock, in James A. Dyal Funeral Home Chapel, Summerville. Burial will be in Dorchester Memory Gardens, Summerville.

Born on April 1, 1964, in Charleston, S.C., a daughter of Elbert K. Johnson of Moncks Corner and Shirley Saunders Johnson of Moncks Corner.
She was a graduate of Trident Technical College and Roper School of Nursing. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse II with Trident Medical Center. She was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are, husband, Tracy E. Millen of Summerville; mother, Shirley S. Johnson of Moncks Corner; father, Elbert K. Johnson of Moncks Corner; son, Mark E. Millen of Summerville; daughter, Courtney L. Millen of Summerville; sister and brother-in-law, Shelly J. and Prentiss O. Parks, Jr., of Ravenel; maternal grandfather, Johnnie L. Saunders, Sr., of North Charleston. She was predeceased by, paternal grandparents, Marvin and Eva Johnson; maternal grandmother, Mary H. Saunders; paternal great-grandparents, Otis and Mamie Moore.

Dr. Billie F. LaMotte, 83, formerly of Edisto Island, died Thursday in Sevierville, Tennessee. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 PM, Sunday at Edisto Island Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Rev. Joe Marchant officiating and directed by THE BRICE W. HERNDON AND SONS FUNERAL HOME.
Dr. LaMotte was the daughter of the late Charles W. and Effie Woods LaMotte. She was a member of St. Fredrick-St. Stevens Catholic Church of Edisto Island. She was a graduate of The University of Georgia and The Medical College Of Georgia. She practiced Radiology in Augusta, Georgia for many years. Dr. LaMotte did research and was The First Doctor in The Southeast to use and Teach Nuclear Medicine.
Surviving are John and Sally Carr, with whom she lived, a son, Michael LaMotte of Dracut, MA., three grandchildren, a niece, Roslyn Clark of Wilmington Island, Georgia and a great-nephew.

AUGUSTA, GA. - Mrs. Rose E. Washington entered into rest on Tuesday, December 11, 2001, at a Georgia hospital. EARLY BRANCH - Mr. Charles Edward Heape, Sr. 58 of 446 Loop Road in Early Branch, died Wednesday night in the Beaufort Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Mr. Heape was born in Yemassee, (Hampton County) April 19, 1943 a son of the late Benjamin "Bennie" R. Heape and Minnie Leona Youmans Heape. Mr. Heape was a self employed carpenter, and was a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent. Surviving are: his wife: Rosemary Wiggins Heape of Early Branch; one son: Charles Heape, Jr. of Early Branch; three brothers: James and William Heape both of Cummings, and Darell Heape of Gaston; and one sister: Alice Harvey of Cummings, and Darell Heape of Gaston; and one sister: Alice Harvey of Cummings; There are three granddaughters: Samantha Leona Heape, Savannah Brooke Heape, and Sarah Ashton Heape.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in the Mt. Olive Baptist Church near Early Branch, conducted by Rev. David H. Sturgeon, with burial in the Zahler Cemetery, directed by PEEPLES-RHODEN FUNERAL HOME in Hampton. Friends may call at the Chapel in Hampton from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, and Saturday until 1 p.m. when the casket will be placed in the church prior to services.

Wordis Cedron Swain, Sr., 87, of North Charleston died on the afternoon of Friday, December 14, 2001. The funeral service will be 3:00 o'clock p.m. Sunday, December 16 in Ferndale Baptist Church, North Charleston directed by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., GREENRIDGE ROAD CHAPEL. Mr. Swain was born February 24, 1914 in Claxton, Georgia the son of Ellis Vance and Beulah McGahee Swain. He was a retired welder at the Charleston Naval Shipyard. A life member of Hammerton Lodge #332 A.F.M., he was also a member of Ferndale Baptist Church.
Mr. Swain is survived by his wife, Mertice Smith Swain, his daughters, Glenda Howell of Hanahan, Sara (Philip) Livingston of Hollywood, S.C., his sons, W. Cedron (Patricia) Swain, Jr., of North Charleston, Reginald Vance (Barbara) Swain of Greenwood, S.C. and David Allen (Linda) Swain of New Zion, S.C. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 2 step-grandchildren.

MCMILLAN, Joan
WALTERBORO - Joan Brown McMillan, 64, wife of Ben D. McMillan, died Thursday at her residence.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the chapel of Fred Parker Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Steve Brown, Rev. Posey Belcher and Rev. Archie Morgan. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. McMillan was born Sept. 15, 1937 in Columbia, a daughter of the late G. Chappelle Brown and Reba Counts Brown. She was a member of First Baptist Church. Shortly after moving to Walterboro, in 1975, Joan assisted in organizing the Lowcountry Hotline and served for years as it's secretary and treasurer. In 1985, Joan co-founded CoMAC, Inc., working diligently in the moving and storage industry. She served the Charleston Movers Association both as secretary/treasurer and as president. She served on the board of the American Redball Warehousemans Association. "Miss Joan", as she was nicknamed by a dear friend and business associate, will be best and long remembered for her big smile and shared coffee pot.
Surviving are besides her husband, are two daughters, Deborah L. McMillan and Laura M. Spivey both of Walterboro.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Mrs. Bishop was born January 8, 1938, in Walterboro, a daughter of the late Chesley Benjamin Bailey and Ollie Sue Moorer Bailey Dukes. She was a member of First Baptist Church and was a pre-school Sunday school teacher. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and an avid bridge player.
Surviving besides her husband, are, a son, Charles E. Bishop, Jr., of Walterboro, three daughters, Kathy Sue Burch of Irmo, Beth B. Hogan and Nancy B. Murray, both of Walterboro, a brother, William Michael Bailey of Columbia, a special cousin, Linda M. Carter of Lodge, and six grandchildren.
