Surviving are, daughter and son-in-law, Susan R. and Ben Cole of Summerville; granddaughters, Debbie Kiriakides and Lorrie Cole of Greenville; great-granddaughters, Annastasia, Alexis, and Arlena Kiriakides of Greenville. She was predeceased by a daughter, Lynne R. Morse; a brother, Earnest V. Derks, Jr.; and a sister, Helen D. Holden.

Mildred Porter Duane, 81, James Island, died Friday, December 21, 2001, at her residence. She was born in Phenix City, Ala., to Wilbur and Jewel Newsome Porter, a graduate of Central High in Phenix City, Ala. Mildred was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the proud mother of nine children, she was also previously on the PTA at Bishop England High School and Cathedral School. She was the widow of William M. Duane. She is survived by four sons, William M. Duane of Charlotte, N.C., and Martin J. Duane of Charleston, Christopher C. Duane of Charlotte, N.C., and John W. Duane of Charleston, five daughters, Michele Kelly of Riva, Md., Denise Davis of Lithonia, Ga., Patricia A. Duane of Charleston, Sylvia Molley of Jacksonville, Fla., Rebecca McIntosh of Lake Weir, Fla., three sisters, Martha Webster and Mittie Sanders, both of Phenix City, Ala., Mary Dotson of Albuquerque, N.M., nine grandchildren and one great-grandson. Roseva Shumpert Beshere, 90, of Charleston, a retired teacher with the Charleston County Schools, died Saturday, December 22, 2001 at a local hospital. Mrs. Beshere was the widow of Joseph William Beshere. She was born in Pelion, S.C. to the late Daniel Franklin and Sarah C. Lybrand Shumpert.
She is survived by two daughters, Rose Marie (J. Peter) Murphy of Winston-Salem, N.C. and JoAnn (Kenneth E) Kosobud of Goose Creek, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Beshere attended Chicora College in Columbia and was a graduate of Limestone College. She was a retired teacher of Memminger Elementary School. Past president and reserve member of Delta Kappa Gamma International Educators Society. She was a member of the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist and the Catholic Women's Club.

Burgess Beck Colwell, Sr., 58, of Awendaw, died unexpectedly at his home on the afternoon of Sunday, December 23, 2001. The memorial service will be Thursday, at 11 o'clock in the Mt. Mr. Colwell was born November 3, 1943, in Rochester, N.Y., the son of Marion Whitbeck Colwell of Rochester and the late George Colwell. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia and had served with the South Carolina National Guard. He was the owner of Seabreeze Air and was associated with Palmetto Services of Columbia, S.C. He was the former owner of a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant and the Red Wing Rollerway skating rink in Mt. Pleasant. He was an avid woodcarver gaining recognition in the local area.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Susan Hannaford Colwell, his son and daughter-in-law, Burgess B. and Marian Colwell, Jr., of Mt. Pleasant, Christopher Tradd Colwell of Awendaw, and his daughter, Kimberly Ann Colwell Clarkson of San Francisco. He is also survived by a grandson, Colin Beck Colwell and a sister, Georganne Huff of New York.

William Glen Arrowood, 79, of Ridgeville, widow of Marion Louise Bragg Arrowood, died Saturday in a Summerville hospital.

Mr. Arrowood was born February 19, 1922, in Ashville, N.C., a son of the late Ed and Minnie Harwood Arrowood.
Mr. Arrowood attended schools of Mars Hill, N.C. He was a member of Old Bull Creek Baptist Church, Mars Hill. He was a truck driver with Wetterau Food Services. He was a Merchant Mariner serving during W.W.II.
Surviving are, daughter, Victoria Greene of Cottageville; son, Michael Arrowood of North Charleston; two grandsons, Anthony R. Greene of Warsaw, Ky., William E. Dubose of Cottageville; three great-grandchildren.

NEAL, Lee
Lee Ella Neal, 64, of Jacksonville, Fla., died at a home on Saturday, December 22, 2001, following a lengthy illness. She was the daughter of the late Lolie B. and Lena S. Bryan of Andrews, S.C., and was a homemaker and a member of West Jacksonville Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Gene Neal, one son Brian J. Neal; two step-sons, Lance Neal and Mark Neal; one step-daughter, Susan Louder; two brothers, Russell Bryan, Marianna and Reed Byran, Andrews, S.C.; three sisters, Lawanda B. Hanna, Andrews, S.C., Willa B. Gordon, Marianna and Edaphell B. Sims, Stafford, Va., numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

ISLANDTON - Mr. Edward Proveaux, age 67, of 3811 Rum Gully Road, died Sunday, December 23, at a Charleston hospital. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday, at Peniel Baptist Church with Rev. Tom McJunkin and Rev. Terry Hiers officiating. Directed by the BRICE W. HERNDON AND SONS FUNERAL HOME. Mr. Proveaux was born in Colleton County and was a son of Charlie Clifton Proveaux and Ollie Mae Carson Proveaux. He was a retired employee with Westinghouse in Hampton. He was a member of Peniel Baptist Church, where he was a former Deacon and former Brotherhood director. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
Surviving are, his wife of 45 years, Ann High Proveaux; two sons, Micky Proveaux of Smoaks, and Arnold Proveaux of Walterboro; four daughters, Tina Lee of Islandton, Anita Proveaux of Walterboro, Donna Myers and Nichole P. Nichols, both of Smoaks; a brother, Charlie L. Proveaux of Spartanburg; ten grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m., Wednesday evening, at Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home.
