Mrs. VanDorsten was born September 25, 1911 in Crozet, Virginia, the daughter of James Harry Jones and Myrtle Adele Towsey Jones. She was a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth College and a member of First Presbyterian Church in Winston Salem, North Carolina.
She is survived by a son: Dr. James Peter VanDorsten of Charleston, SC; one daughter: Susan VanDorsten King of Laurinburg, NC; one sister: Mavis J. Parker of Richmond, Virginia; 3 brothers: John Jones, Ray Jones and Robert Jones all of Crozet, Virginia; 3 grandchildren: Katherine VanDorsten, Van King and Peter King.

MURPHY, Robert
Funeral services for Robert Burbank Murphy, 88, of Orlando, who died Friday, December 21, were held Saturday, December 22, 3 p.m. at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, Orlando, FL. Interment at the Resurrection Garden on the church grounds will take place at a later date.
Mr. Murphy was born on November 7, 1913 in Charleston, SC, the son of Edward John Murphy and Caroline Burbank Murphy. He was educated at Charleston schools and the College of Charleston before transferring to Clemson College, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Architecture in 1936 and was a member of the Blue Key national honor fraternity. He later studied under famed Bauhaus architect Walter Gropius at Harvard University's Graduate School of Design, where he received his Master's Degree in 1940.
During World War II, he served in the South Pacific with the 70th Fighter Squadron of the US Army Air Force, which advanced from the Fiji Islands to New Guinea. He completed his military service as a Captain at the Air Force Board, Orlando Air Force Base.
He opened his architectural office in Orlando, Fl in January 1947. By the time he retired in 1979, his firm of Murphy Hunton Shivers & Brady had provided modern designs for major projects in the central Florida area.
He was an emeritus member of the American Institute of Architects and served as president of the Mid-Florida Chapter of the AIA. He was also a member of the South Carolina Historical Society.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Robin Marshall Hill Murphy; daughters Eva Burbank Murphy, Boston, MA and Sara Love Murphy Segal, Maitland, FL; sons Robert Marshall Murphy, Pensacola Beach, Victor Hill Murphy, Celbridge, Ireland, and Edward John Murphy II, Winter Park; ten grandchildren.
TAYLOR, Sylvia
Sylvia O. Taylor, wife of James V. Taylor, died Wednesday, December 26, 2001 in Roper Hospital in Charleston.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 28, 2001 at 2:00 P.M., in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Burial, directed by GRAHAM FUNERAL HOME, will follow in the Church Cemetery.
She was born September 17, 1937, in Georgetown County, a daughter of the late Jacob Timothy Owens and Alice Cribb Owens.
She was a retired secretary with General Telephone Co., in Georgetown. She retired in 1991, with Thirty-six years of Service. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, one daughter, Allyson T. Hinson and her husband Lee of Moncks Corner; three grandsons, Andrew, Ethan and Ryan Hinson, all of Moncks Corner; one brother, Rev. J. Raymond Owens of Irmo; two sisters, Eleanor O. Godsil of Bluffs, Illinois and Alice O. Bailey of Ft. Myers, Florida and a numver of nieces and nephews.
TROTMAN, William
William J. Trotman, Sr., 49, the network administrator for the S.C. Department of Natural Resources, died Wednesday, December 26, 2001 at his home in James Island. Born March 27, 1952, in Henderson, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Harry Dehaven Trotman, and Rebecca Mayo Trotman. He was educated at East Carolina University and the University and the University of N.C., at Chapel Hill. Mr. Trotman was a member of the Charleston Yacht Club and the Charleston Ocean Racing Association (CORA). He is survived by his wife Fran Trotman; two sons, William J. Trotman, Jr., and his wife, Jennifer, Greensboro, NC., and Andrew Cain Trotman, Charleston, mother, Rebecca M. Trotman; three brothers, Harry Trotman and his wife, Ruth, Hope Mills, NC., Paul Trotman, Wilmington, NC., and James Trotman, Baltimore, MD., and sister, Rebecca Jones and her husband, Dr. Michael Jones, Henderson, NC. Mr. Chamblin was born June 23, 1942 in Jamestown, Ohio, and was a son of the late Ferlin and Hazel Robinson Chamblin. He became a carpenter when he retired after twenty years of active duty with the United States Navy.
Surviving are: His wife of thirty-six years- Barbara Ann Connelly Chamblin; two sons, James Chamblin and Chris Chamblin both of Lodge; a grandson, Brian Chamblin of Lodge; a granddaughter, Kimberly Chamblin of Lodge; a sister, Laura A. Robert E. "Bob" Pieper, 68, of Summerville, died on the morning of Thursday, December 27, 2001 after an extended illness. The funeral services will be 1:00 o'clock Saturday afternoon in J. Mr. Pieper was born on October 20, 1933 in Gadsden, Alabama, the son of Russell W. and Frances Frondorf Pieper. A Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict, he worked at the Charleston Naval Shipyard and retired as a ship superintendent from the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard after 31 years federal service. He was a 41 year member of the Dwight Lodge #550, A&FM in Alabama City, Ala. An active ham radio operator in the Charleston area, his call letters were WA4TEE.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Joyce Martin Pieper, his daughter, Carol P. Knight of Summerville, his granddaughter Sherri L. Knight of Atlanta, Geo. and grandson Steven M. Knight of Summerville. His sister, Janet Fulmer of Gadsden, Ala. also survives.

BEAUFORT, S.C. - Peter Marlin Fox, 54, husband of Helena Flygare-Fox died December 25, 2001, at his residence.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 29, at 2:00 p.m. at the Sea Island Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Fox was born on December 25, 1947, in Boston, Mass. to Robert Stanton Fox and Marie Elizabeth Haffenreffer Fox.
Mr. Fox was a landscape architect and the owner of Land Design Associates. He was an alumnus of the University of Arizona, a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects, Chamber of Commerce, Beaufort County Open Land Trust and Beaufort Yacht and Sailing Club.
He is survived by his wife of Beaufort, two children, Rebecca Helena Fox, 8 yrs. old, Robert Gosta Fox, 7 yrs. old, his father of Royal Oak, Md., his mother of Duxbury, Mass., three sisters, Marie Fox of Santa Monica, Calif., Josie Hanlon of Cambridge, Mass., and Robin Fox-Daley of Duxbury, Mass.

JOHNS, Frances
Frances Rowland Johns, 78, of North Charleston, died Thursday in a North Charleston Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday in CAROLINA FUNERAL HOME. Burial will follow in Carolina Memorial Gardens. Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of Haskell Brooks and Dora Johnson Brooks. She was a Jehovah Witness. She was the widow of William Troy Rowland and Francis P. Johns.
Survivors include: Daughters, Linda Baldwin of North Charleston, Judy Herold of Huntingon, Mass, and Laura Faye Melvin of Birmingham, ALA., a son, Danny Ray Rowland, Sr., of North Charleston; a brother, Marvin Brooks of Anderson, twelve grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren and a number of great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home and other times at the residence of Linda Baldwin.

Frederick Nuding, Jr., (Ret) USAF, 80, of Ladson, husband of Ruth Mayall Nuding died Wednesday at his residence.
Funeral service will be held Monday, December 31, 2001 at 1 o'clock at Kirk & Nice Funeral Home Inc., Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania with a visitation from 12 o'clock until service time.
Burial will be in George Washington Memorial Park in Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania. Friends may call James A. Dyal Funeral Home, Summerville, from 6 until 8 o'clock this evening.

Mr. Nuding was born on January 31, 1921, in Parker, South Dakota, a son of the late William Frederick Nuding, Sr., and Della Blanche Curdy Nuding. He was a graduate of Collegeville High School in Pennsylvania. He was a member of M.O.W.W., the Air Force Association, the V.F.W. in Norristown, PA., the American Legion in Philadelphia, PA. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving in WWII, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. He was an Episcopalian.
Surviving are: wife, Ruth Irene Mayall Nuding of Ladson, SC., daughter, Ruth Ann Andersen of Maplegrove, Minnesota; son, Michael Benjamin Nuding of Zebulon, North Carolina; granddaughter, Amanda Irene Andersen of Maplegrove, Minnesota; sisters, Ethel Nelson of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Judy Christy of Trappe, Pennsylvania.
