Mrs. Melton died Monday, December 31, 2001. Born in Rockingham, NC, she was the daughter of the late George Hope Barnhill and Elvira Dorinda Mitchum Barfield. Mrs. Melton was a legal secretary with Senator John Martin, a graduate of Columbia International University, Columbia, SC, a member of First Baptist Church of Winnsboro where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, a member of the choir, had recently returned from a mission trip to Spain, and was an active member of the Womens Prison Ministry in Winnsboro and was a former member of First Baptist Church of Camden.
Surviving are her husband David L. Melton, Jr., daughter Dorinda Melton Helms of Columbia; 2 grands, Lane H. Melton of Charleston and Dorinda Mitchum Helms of Columbia; 3 great-grandchildren, Kayla Hildreth and Preston Helms both of Columbia, and David M. Melton of Charleston. She was predeceased by an infant son David L. Melton, III, brothers James Mason Barnhill, and George Dowey Barnhill, sister Virginia Barnhill.
