She is survived by her Mother of New York; one daughter: Jennifer A. Grindlinger of New York City; 3 sons: Michael J. Arthur of Charleston, S.C. Mrs. Belding was born on April 8, 1921, in Hinesville, Ga., the daughter of Doras and Sarah Mallard Mock. She attended Palmer College and Trident Technical College. Mrs. Belding was a member of Portside Baptist Church in North Charleston. She was an LPN and at one time worked at MUSC. She also worked at Clemson University Extension Program as a caseworker. She was a volunteer for MDA and the Democratic National Party. She was a champion for those less fortunate. She will be sorely missed and is survived by two sons, Robert A. Garner, Jr., and wife, Raynette of Bryan, Texas, and Dale M. Garner of Columbia, S.C.; three daughters, Jacquelyn M. Yow and husband, Roger, of Moncks Corner, S.C., Sherry G. Huber and husband, Stephen of Chandler, Ariz., and J. Marie Kendall and husband, Scott of Columbia, S.C.; one brother, Jack P. Mock and wife, Doris of Port Isabel, Texas; one sister, Doris E. Elizabeth von der Lieth Petit, 88, died on Friday, January 4, 2002 at a local nursing home. She was born in Charleston to the late Hugh Augustus von der Lieth and Lottie Marian Roberts von der Lieth. She was predeceased by her husband Lee Woodrow Petit. She was a graduate of Memminger Normal School for Girls, and a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. Mrs. Petit was retired from F.W. Woolsworth Co. in Charleston and was formerly with Regal's Dept. Store and Pastime Amusement Co. She was a member of The Golden Fellowship Club and Quis Qui Auxiliary. She is survived by two sons, Richard Lee Petit, of Charleston and Stephen Caldwell Petit of Moncks Corner, S.C.; two grandchildren, Stephen Caldwell Petit, II of Charlotte, N.C. and Paige Marie Petit of Moncks Corner. WHITTLE, Tina
WALTERBORO - Tina Ackerman Whittle, 87, widow of James Edward Whittle, died Saturday at Colleton Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at the chapel of the Fred Parker Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. David Cox and Rev. John Hobin. Interment will be in Ackerman Cemetery at Red Oak.
Mrs. Whittle was born March 29, 1914 in Cottageville, a daughter of John Steven Ackerman and Eleanor Missouri Hoff Ackerman. She was the oldest member of Edgewood Baptist church. She was an avid gardener and also a loving mother, grandmother and friend.
Surviving are two daughters and son-in-laws, Mary Lee and Neil Hudson of Walterboro and Debra and Tom Galin of Columbia, five grandchildren, Jimmy and Steve Hudson and Kelly, Mark and Stacy Galin. She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the FRED PARKER FUNERAL HOME.
