KELLY, Ray
WALTERBORO - Ray Douglas Kelly, 83, died Monday at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel of the Fred Parker Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. David Cox, Rev. Ed Stiltz and Rev. Ken McCaskill. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Kelly was born Feb. 1, 1918 in Columbia, a son of the late Samuel Walter Kelly and Maude Estelle Kelly. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Ruffin Charge, the V.F.W., D.A.V. and the Bells Masonic Lodge. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was a retired Civil Service employee.
Surviving are his wife, Earldean Givens Kelly, three daughters, Patsy Greene of Pendleton, Ramona Hoffman of Gilbert and Rosemary Bishop of Evans, Ga., a brother, Alvin Kelly of Elgin, a sister, Lucile Hines of Walterboro, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

GEORGETOWN - Lydia Turner Altman, 78, died Sunday, January 6, 2002 at Franke Home at Seaside Healthcare in Mt. Pleasant.
Mrs. Altman was born at Centenary in Marion County on December 15, 1923, a daughter of the late William Monroe Turner and Annie Lambert Turner. She grew up in Marion County and graduated from Centenary High School. Mrs. Altman moved to Georgetown in 1943. She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. Mrs. Altman served her church as an active member of the United Lutheran Church Women and taught Sunday School for a number of years. She was a retired employee of Nations Bank.
Surviving are her husband, Rothie B. Altman, Jr. of Georgetown; three sons, Ron L. Altman of Mt. Pleasant, and Wayne B. Altman and Jeffrey O. Altman, both of Georgetown; two sisters, Bonnie T. Altman of Georgetown and Eva T. Rogers of Marion; two brothers, David E. Turner of Litchfield Beach and Bill J. Turner of San Jose, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be Wednesday morning, January 9, 2002, at eleven o'clock at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Maria Perez. Burial will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens under the directions of the GEORGETOWN CHAPEL OF MAYER FUNERAL HOME.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from six until eight Tuesday evening, January 8, 2002.

HAMPTON - Mrs. Reba Eloise Webb Guillory, 81, of 306 Ellis Street in Hampton, died early Monday morning at her residence after an extended illness. Mrs. Guillory was born in Hampton, March 5, 1919 a daughter of the late Edward Jones Webb and Reba Percille Kinard Webb. She was a homemaker, and a member of the Higher Ground Church near Hampton. Mrs. Guillory was the widow of the late George Herman Guillory.
Surviving are two daughters, Janet Blair Guillory Keels of Hampton, and Laura Webb Guillory McCullough of Durham, N.C.; and one sister, Gail Webb Reed of Greer. There are 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Hampton Cemetery, conducted by Rev. Tom Longfellow, and directed by PEEPLES-RHODEN FUNERAL HOME in Hampton.

BRECHT, Bennett
Bennett Carter Brecht, 37, 505 Olde Bridge Court, Mount Pleasant, SC, died Saturday morning. He is survived by his wife Christina Murray Brecht, his daughter Camille Bennett, his mother Margaret L. Brecht of Philadelphia, his brother Adam E. B. Brecht of New York City, and his Father and Step Mother Robert C. and Susan B. Brecht of Philadelphia.
Mr. Brecht was the Founder, Chairman and CEO of Opus Media Corporation, Mt. Pleasant, a seven year old digital strategy and marketing firm. Opus Media was recipient of the Charleston Emerging Ten Award. The company closed its doors in December 2001 due to the worldwide recession in internet related corporate expenditures.
David Stahl, music director of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, said "Karen and I were shocked and saddened to hear the news. Ben had a brilliant mind and was a bright light filled with optimism and enthusiasm for the Charleston Symphony Orchestra. His love of good music and people was contagious. One always felt good talking to Ben. He was a very special person and will be sadly missed." At the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, Brecht was current Vice President of the Board of Directors and Chairman of Marketing Committee. He also served as a pro bono, consultant to many other Charleston area non-profits. He was a board member at Devocom Services, a human resources consulting company.
Prior to founding Opus Media, Mr. Brecht had served with distinction as Director, Digital and Multi-Media Communication at Blackbaud, Inc., Charleston. Blackbaud is the largest manufacturer of software for non-profit organizations in the world.
In New Orleans, before arriving in Charleston, Brecht had been a partner at the Pertuit Group, and advertising agency for whom he created a digital division.
In the late 1980's he was a touring musician based in New Orleans. He caught the attention of the legendary jazz great Ellis Marsalis and began undergraduate studies at the University of New Orleans, College of Music under Marsalis guidance. After 2 years there, he completed his studies with a B.A. degree in music at the University of California, Berkeley. He was a 1981 graduate of Cheltenham High School in suburban Philadelphia.
Known for his remarkable combination of kindness, generosity and genius by his family, friends and the many people who had the chance to work with him, people were drawn to his quick and gentle energy and his positive can-do nature. He gave tirelessly to his private sector interest, his civic involvement and his family. All who knew him or worked with him are enriched forever.
Memorial donations may be made in his name to the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, 14 George Street, Charleston, SC 29401. A service in his memory with music given by members of the Orchestra will be held at Circular Congregation Church, 150 Meeting Street, at 2PM on Wednesday, January 9th.
