MACGREGOR, SR., H.
Harry Gregor MacGregor, Sr., 92, of Raphine, died Sunday, January 6, 2002 at his home. Mr. MacGregor was born in Pittsburgh on September 13, 1909 and was a son of the late Thomas Gregor MacGregor and Mildred McGregor MacGregor. He was a member of the Marlbrook Baptist Church, past member, deacon and elder in the Avalon United Presbyterian Church, past member of the following churches, Ingomar Community United Methodist Church, Summerville South Carolina Presbyterian Church and New Providence Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Masons and Shriners and was retired from the U.S. Steel Co. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Vass MacGregor, one daughter, Barbara MacGregor Cosentino, three brothers, Dr. Thomas Gregor MacGregor, John Hartley MacGregor, Robert Wilson MacGregor and a sister, Helen MacGregor Wood.
Mr. MacGregor is survived by two sons, Harry Gregor MacGregor, Jr., Raphine, Thomas Gregor MacGregor, Charleston, S.C., one sister, Alice MacGregor Straight, Finleyville, Pa., 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2002 at the Marlbrook Baptist Church with Pastor Gib Hale officiating. There will be a service held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 11, 2002 at the McDonald-Linn Funeral Home in Avalon, Pittsburgh, Pa. with burial to follow in the Alleghany Memorial Cemetery in Pittsburgh. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Marlbrook Baptist Church, 6926 North Lee Highway, Raphine, Va. 24472, The Gideons International, P.O. Box 942, Lexington, Va. 24450 or Rockbridge Area Hospice, P.O. Box 948, Lexington, Va. 24450. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the HARRISON FUNERAL HOME, Lexington.

THORNLEY, Mildred
Mildred Lisenby Thornley, 70, of Land O'Pines Circle, Pinopolis, S.C. died Monday at her residence.
The funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday morning, Jan. 10, 2002, in the First Baptist Church, Moncks Corner. Interment will be in the Thornley Cemetery. Friends may call at DIAL-MURRAY FUNERAL HOME, MONCKS CORNER, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. this Wednesday evening.
Mrs. Thornley was born April 29, 1931, in Montgomery County, N.C., a daughter of Rev. John T. Lisenby and Betty Talbert Lisenby. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she was a member of the Pearson/Whitson Group and the Sunday school class. She graduated from Berkeley High School as the salutatorian in 1949.
Surviving are her husband, Billy L. Thornley; a daughter, Dianne T. Sheintal of Snellville, GA; a son Tim Thornley of Jacksonville, FL two sisters, Marie L. Quick of James Island and Rosie L. Cumbee of Mt. Pleasant, three brothers, John T. Lisenby, Jr., of Reno, NV, James Lisenby of Kannapolis, NC, and Leonard L. Lisenby of Pinopolis and five grandchildren.

CROSS, Charlie
Charlie C. "Buggie" Cross, Jr., 92, of Moncks Corner, a retired Security Officer with the Charleston Naval Shipyard, died Monday at a Moncks Corner hospital.
The graveside funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church Cemetery, Cross. Burial will be directed by RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL, MONCKS CORNER.
Mr. Cross was born October 12, 1909 at Cross, S.C. a son of Charlie C. Cross, Sr. and Caroline Grooms Cross. He was the oldest member of Friendship United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of Cross High School. He was the widower of Bernice William Cross.
Surviving are a sister Ethel Cross Langley of Moncks Corner, brother, Memminger Cross of Cross; several nieces and nephews.

YOUNT, Emma
EUTAWVILLE- Mrs. Emma Dell Yount, 76, of 220 Second St., Eutawville, died Tuesday, January 8, 2002 at her residence.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday, January 10, 2002 in the chapel of AVINGER FUNERAL HOME of Holly Hill with Rev. Dale Phillips officiating. Burial will be in the Eutawville Cemetery.
Mrs. Yount was born in Berkeley County a daughter of the late Lewis Weatherford and Minnie Winningham Weatherford. She was a homemaker.
Surviving are her husband, Billy E. Yount of the home; daughter, Mrs. Linda Y. Owens of Summerville; sons, Bobby H. Yount of Eutawville, and B.J. Yount of Holly Hill; sisters, Mrs. Lillie Lee Adkins of Holly Hill, and Mrs. Virgie Rudd of St. Matthews; brothers, Jessie Weatherford and Claude Weatherford both of Holly Hill; seven grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. this Wednesday, January 9, 2002.

BRECHT, Ben
The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Bennett Carter Brecht are invited to attend a Memorial Service of the former, Wednesday at 2 o'clock in the Circular Congregational Church, with music given by members of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra.

CATTERTON, Mary
WALTERBORO - Mrs. Mary Walker Catterton, 90, of 5594 Charleston Highway died Monday at Colleton Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Chapel of the BRICE W. HERNDON AND SONS FUNERAL HOME with Rev. David Cox officiating. Interment will follow in Black Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Catterton was born in Colleton County. A daughter of the late Susan Walker. She was a retired employee with Walterboro Dress Plant and was a member of Sandy Dam United Methodist Church. She was the widow of Curtis M. Catterton.
Surviving are two sons, Lewis J. Catterton, Sr. and Marshall Catterton, both of Walterboro, a sister Martha Walker Barnett of Walterboro, a son in law, Joe Mire, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Thelma C. Mire.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the church of charity of one's choice.

ST. GEORGE - Susie Southerland Simons, 28, of 300 Smoak Road, Dorchester died Tuesday January 8, 2002 in an Orangeburg hospital from injuries received in an auto accident on I-26.Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Bryant Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Brandenburg and Roy Knight officiating. Burial will follow in the Dorchester Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Rudd, Tony Rudd, Freddie Rudd, David Southerland, Billy Carter, and Jeremy Diehl. Mrs. Simons was born April 12, 1973 in Charleston a daughter of Michael Steven and Patricia Rudd Southerland. She was a member of St. George Church of God and a graduate of St. George High School. She was a former bookkeeper and payroll clerk at Palmetto Bakery in Orangeburg. Surviving are, husband, L. Pete Simons, St. George, 3 daughters, Kayla Southerland, Lauren Simons, and Meagan Simons, all of Dorchester. SINGLEY, Marie
Marie Virginia Geiger Singley, of North Charleston, S.C. died Sunday, January 5, 2002 following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Singley was born August 13, 1913 in Columbia, S.C. She was the daughter of the late Charles W. Geiger and Cora Martin Geiger of W. Columbia, S.C. and the widow of Ferris Heber Singley, of N. Charleston, S.C.
Mrs. Singley is survived by two sons, Harry C. "Chuck" Singley of Saluda, S.C., James D. Singley of Columbia, S.C., four daughters, Seanie Singley-French of Panama City, Fla., Ethel Singley-Maddox of N. Charleston, S.C., Jane S. Vaughn and Karen M. Singley both of Columbia, S.C., two sisters, Ruth Moyer of Rossville, Ga. and Pauline Steppe, of Columbia, S.C., 19 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Three sons, Ferris G. "Butch" Singley, Laurie W. Singley and David M. Singley preceded her in death.
From 1937 until Mrs. Singley's retirement, she and her late husband owned and operated Singley Sign Company. She was known as "The Lady Sign Painter" in the Charleston area. She was a parishioner of St. John's Catholic Church, N. Charleston. Active in numerous community affairs, Mrs. Singley was a former member of the N. Charleston Citizen's Advisory Council, Past President of Morningside/Ferndale Neighborhood Council and was an Ambassador for the City of North Charleston. In 1998 Mrs. Singley was highly honored by her beloved City of North Charleston when she was named "1998's Citizen of the Year". Mrs. Singley was a positive influence on those who knew her and will be missed.
Visitation will be held Thursday, January 10, 2002 from 5-7 p.m. at MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, 150 Wentworth St. Friends and relatives will be received at the home of Ethel Singley-Maddox, 7029 N. Gladys Dorothy Friendly, 78, of North Charleston, widow of Willie Vonlee Friendly died Wednesday morning at her residence.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, January 11, 2002 at 2 o'clock in James A. Dyal Funeral Home Chapel, Summerville. Burial will be in Plantation Memorial Gardens, Moncks Corner.

Mrs. Friendly was born December 25, 1923 in Dorchester Co., S.C., a daughter of the late Ervin Grooms and Lizzie Grooms. She was a retired presser with Manhattan Shirt Factory. She was a member of Ashley Heights Church of God.
Surviving are 5 daughters, Jeanette Lee of Moncks Corner, Betty Jo Lee, Wilma Christian, Carolyn Hedges all of Summerville, and Judy Davis of Moncks Corner; 3 sons, Vonlee Friendly of Fayetteville, N.C., Gene Ray Friendly and Tom Friendly both of Goose Creek; 2 sisters, Louise Harmon of Summerville, Hattie Mae Spires of Orangeburg; one brother, Melvin Hughes of Orangeburg; 23 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her daughter, Elizabeth Waterhouse and her grandchild, Jason Friendly.

WALTERS, Marion
ELLOREE, S.C. - Marion F. (Polly) Walters, 67, of 902 Pickette Level Road, Elloree, S.C., died Wednesday, January 9, 2002, after an illness of several months.
Born Feb. 11, 1934, in Harleyville, S.C. to the late Mid Walters and Flossie Williams Walters. He was married to the late Flotilla Bailey Walters. He was a Navy veteran, a member of Fellowship Baptist Church where he served on the visitation committee and was a faithful member of the church choir. He was a loving and zealous witness for Christ and will be missed by family and friends. He graduated from Harleyville High School, joined the Navy and was employed by the Charleston Naval Yard from 1956 to 1970. Survivors include 3 daughters, Mrs. Tommy (Sandra) Ayers, Rowesville, S.C., Mrs. Dan (Janice) Wolfe, Schererville, Ind., Mrs. Jerry (Cathy) Sandiford, Crestview, Fla.; one son, Paul and Tina Walters, Aberdeen, Md.; 3 sisters, Ruth Dopp, Sacramento, Calif., Shirley Mobley, Harleyville, S.C., Lucy Walters, Greevnille, S.C.; 11 grands; several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be in Fellowship Baptist Church, Saturday, January 12, 2002, 2:00 p.m. with Rev. John Salazar officiating. Burial in Memorial Park Cemetery, Orangeburg, S.C. Pallbearers will be Thomas B. Jones, Jr., John Boylston, Aubrey Jones, James Bryant, Wayne Jones and Terry Felkel.
The family will receive friends at the Walter's residence and Fogle Hungeriller Funeral Home in Elloree, S.C. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday.
