OSWALD, JR., Dunbar
ALLENDALE - Mr. Dunbar Oswald, Jr., husband of the late Virginia Youmans Oswald, died Tuesday afternoon in a local Allendale hospital. He was 62.
Mr. Oswald was born in Columbia, September 22, 1939 a son of Sudie G. Oswald, and the late Dunbar Oswald, Sr. He was an Army veteran, having served basic training at Ft. Dix, N.J., and then 8 years in the Army National Guard. He was a graduate of Clemson University, and was a retired farmer, and was also a member of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Communion. Surviving, besides his mother of Allendale are, 3 daughters, Mahlon Lucinda Overlock, of Winter Haven, Fla., Virginia Ann Taylor, of Mt. Pleasant, and Johnna O. Simpson, of Harlem, Ga.; one brother, Edward G. "Ned" Oswald of Walterboro. There are 6 grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Friday afternoon at 3:00 in the Swallow Savannah Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at SMITH-RHODEN FUNERAL HOME of Allendale, which is in charge of arrangements.

CRIBB, Letha
GEORGETOWN - Letha Clark Cribb, 85, died Tuesday, January 8, 2002, in a Winyah convalescent center. Mrs. Cribb was born in Laurel Hill, N.C. on November 24, 1916, a daughter of the late James William Clark and Nora Elizabeth Brock Clark. She grew up in Scotland Co., N.C. and graduated from high school there. Mrs. Cribb moved to Georgetown in 1947. She was a member of Georgetown Pentecostal Holiness Church and had served her church as a Sunday School teacher and as a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and the Handmaidens Sunday School Class. Mrs. Cribb was the widow of Italy Woodrow Cribb.
Surviving are a son, Larry M. Cribb of Georgetown; two daughters, Ann C. Swails of Georgetown and Harriett C. O'Quinn of Surfside Beach; two brothers, J. Edward Clark of Gibson, N.C. and Lindsey T. Clark of Laurel Hill, N.C.; a sister, Virginia C. Guy of Laurinburg, N.C.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Friday morning, January 11, 2002, at 11 o'clock in Georgetown Pentecostal Holiness Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Clide E. Glover and the Rev. L. Durant Driggers. Burial will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens under the direction of the Georgetown Chapel of MAYER FUNERAL HOME.

PAGELER, Walter
Walter Frederick Pageler, 93, died Monday, January 7, 2002 at a local hospital. Born September 12, 1908 in Fort Wayne, Indiana he was the son of John Anthony and Bertha Pageler (nee Peckham). Mr. Pageler was a graduate of O'Neill-Ross College of Chiropractic, Ft. Wayne, Indiana. He and his wife, Grace, were missionaries in Cuba. Afterwards they served in Mexico and resided in El Paso, Texas for 50 years. They became members of Immanuel Baptist Church, El Paso, Texas. In 1996 they moved to Goose Creek, S.C. Mr. Pageler is survived by his wife of 59 years, Grace M. Pageler (nee Ainslie); two daughters and sons-in-law Joan and Larry Fraley, Mayhill, New Mexico, and Kay and Ron Myers, Goose Creek, S.C.; two grandchildren and their spouses: Julie and Terry Gates, Belgrade, Montana, and Joe and Stacey Fraley, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. CRADDOCK, Doris
FAIRFAX - Mrs. Doris Horton Craddock, widow of Francis Marion Craddock, died Wednesday morning in the Lexington Medical Center. She was 96.
Mrs. Craddock was born in Gillisonville, S.C. October 26, 1905, a daughter of the late Peter Solomon Horton, and Ellen Manuel Horton. She was a graduate of Ridgeland High School, and she attended Greenville Women's College. She was a retired secretary and bookkeeper at Allendale Fairfax High School, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fairfax, where she taught Sunday School for 53 consecutive years.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Joseph Marion and Sharon Caltrider Craddock, of Pinopolis, and a grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Peter Gordon and Leslie Looper Craddock of Greenville. Mrs. Craddock was predeceased by a sister, Gladys Horton Carr, and a brother, Joseph Herbert Horton.
Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 11:00 at the First Baptist Church of Fairfax, with burial following in the Fairfax Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. SMITH-RHODEN FUNERAL HOME of Allendale is in charge of arrangements.

FISHBURNE, Lucius
WALTERBORO - Lucius Gaston (Boots) Fishburne, 88, died at his home January 8, 2002.
A private service will be held at the family cemetery at Lifeland Plantation.
Mr. Fishburne was born on June 27, 1913, the son of the late South Carolina Supreme Court Justice Edward Ladson Fishburne, and his wife, Mary Patterson Gage Fishburne. He graduated from the Citadel in 1935 and admitted to the South Carolina Bar in 1937. Mr. Fishburne was a decorated veteran of World War II. He was awarded the Bronze Star with five battle stars for his service as the operations officer of the 50th Anti-aircraft Brigade and as Commander of the 30th AAA Group. He was discharged as a Lieutenant Colonel and was individually honored by the Belian and City of Antwerp governments with the Belgian Ordre de Leopold and Croix de Guerre, both with palm. The Ordre de Leopold is the highest decoration given by Belgium.
Mr. Fishburne has been a member of the Governor's Rental Control Board, a director of the Farmer's and Merchant's Bank, director of the Colleton County Hospital, a charter member and president of Dogwood Hills Country Club, charter member and twice president of the Walterboro Chamber of Commerce. He initiated and was president of the Realtors Board of Walterboro. He was a communicant of St. Jude's Episcopal Church in Walterboro. Mr. Fishburne was a charter member of the Centurion Club in Columbia, Yeaman's Hall, the Palmetto Club in Columbia, the Carolina Yacht Club in Charleston, and the St. Cecelia Society in Charleston.
Surviving are his wife, Florence Dargan Fishburne, four children, Florence Dargan Moore of Walterboro, Mrs. W.D. (Patti Gage) Workman, III of Greenville, Lucius Gaston Fishburne, Jr. of Litchfield Beach and John Barnwell Fishburne of Walterboro, his sister, Mrs. Herman (Jane) Hipp of Greenville, three cousins, reared in the home, Mrs. Kirk (Harriett) Stringfellow, Mrs. Hugh (Cissy) McAngus of Chester, and Mrs. Claire (Martha) Guess of Denmark, and nine grandchildren.

Mr. Lasseter was born December 25, 1931, in Charleston, S.C., the son of the late John Maddox Lasseter and Alma Canady Lasseter Caswell. He was a retired pipe shop planner with the Charleston Naval Shipyard, a Baptist and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion Post #160, Goose Creek, a Mason and was a recipient of the Korean Ribbon with three stars, the United Nations Ribbon and the Navy Occupation Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal.
Surviving are his wife Shirley Mullen Lasseter of Hanahan, S.C.; three daughters, Denice Lasseter Pendley of Goose Creek, S.C., Sherry Farmer of Hanahan, S.C., and Lisa Cox of Dublin, Ohio; one son, J. Mark Lasseter of Aurora, Colo.; two brothers, Donald Lasseter and Randall Lasseter, both of N. Charleston, S.C.; one sister, Joann L. Ashfield of Charleston, S.C.; six grandchildren, Mary Farmer, Tara Pendley, Michael Pendley, Brandon Hawkins and Jessica and Derek Cox.

Estelle Evelyn Bryant, 79, died in a local nursing home on Tuesday, January 8, 2002. She was born in Kingstree, S.C., to the late George Washington and Louise Salters. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Bryant and her sisters, Emma, Fannie, Ethel and Maggie. She is survived by one brother, Ellie Washington and two daughters, Gertrude Payne and Margaret Brown; two sons, Leroy Bryant and Timothy "Pumpkin" Bryant, all of Charleston. She is also survived by a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
