Lillie Ratliff Wright, 89, of Moncks Corner, formerly of Johns Island, and owner of Wrights Groceries, died Thursday at her home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday in Carolina Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens. Born in Shelby Gap, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Wick Ratliff and Eura Belcher Ratliff. Mrs. Wright was the widow of Robert Wright.
Survivors include a daughter, Bobbie Jo Bihlear of Moncks Corner; sisters, Icy Mae Bauach and Mary Bates both of James Island; a brother, Leon Ratliff of Summerville; three grandchildren, John F. Bihlear, Jr. of Bonneau, James A. Bihlear of Goose Creek and Joyce L. Gooch of Moncks Corner; 12 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. BEAUFORT, S.C. - Dorothy F. Lindsey Attaway, 75, died Wednesday, January 10, at Bay View Nursing Center. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, January 12, at the Baptist Church of Beaufort with interment in St. Helena's Episcopal Cemetery. Mrs. Attaway was born March 4, 1926, in Jacksonville, Fla., the daughter of Margaret Davis Lindsey and Homer E. Lindsey. She grew up in St. Augustine, Fla., where she graduated from Ketterlinus High School in 1944. That same year, she married Herbert Bailey Attaway, Jr., of Beaufort, S.C., while he was in the U.S. Coast Guard stationed in St. Augustine. In 1954, they moved to Lake City, Fla., where they made their home for 45 years. She was a member and teacher of the Charlity Sunday School class. In 1999, they moved to Beaufort, where she resided at Eden Gardens Assisted Living.
Surviving include her husband of 57 years, Herbert Attaway of Beaufort; two daughters, Dorothy Patricia Attaway and Melissa Susan Attaway, both of Beaufort, and three grandchildren of Orange Park, Fla.

CAUSEY, James
Dr. James Benjamin Causey, 63, of 621 Hampton St., in Walterboro, died Thursday, in a Charleston hospital after an extended illness.
Dr. Causey was born in Furman (Hampton County), September 22, 1938, a son of the late Malcolm Lander Causey and Martha Ann Jenkins Causey. Dr. Causey served as a physician in Estill for over 20 years, moving to Walterboro in 1990 and continuing his family practice. He received his B.A. degree from Emory University, and graduated from the Medical School at the Medical University of South Carolina where he served his internship and medical residency. He was a member of the Phi Ro Sigma Medical Fraternity, the Sigma Ki Social Fraternity at Emory University, the American Academy of Family Physicians, and the Colleton County Medical Society. He was a Vietnam Veteran serving as a Captain in the 1st Battalion, 77th Field Artillery, 1st Air Calvary Division, serving as Battalion Surgeon. He received the Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, and the Vietnam Campaign Ribbon. He was a Board Member of Patrick Henry Academy for many years, and a member of the St. Judes Episcopal Church in Walterboro. Dr. Causey had been director of the Hampton County EMS and was past Chief of Staff at Hampton General Hospital. Dr. Causey will always be remembered by his many friends and patients as a true gentleman who gave unsparingly of his time and many talents, to others. He was an exceptional doctor to his patients as well as being a kind and gentle friend to everyone that he encountered.
Surviving are, his wife, Julia Peeples Causey of Walterboro; son and daughter-in-law, Drs. Charles Allen and Paren Re' Causey of Florence; daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca Causey and James Lawrence Best of Columbia; daughter, Rachael Louise Causey of Charleston; sister and brother-in-law, Alice Camille and J. Lee Murphy of Furman; and one granddaughter, Rebecca O'Neal Best of Columbia. Dr. Causey was pre-deceased in death by a son, James Benjamin Causey, Jr., and a brother, Malcolm Lander Causey.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, in the St. Judes Episcopal Church in Walterboro, conducted by the Rev. James Barton Lewis, with burial in the Lawtonville Cemetery in Estill, directed by PEEPLES-RHODEN FUNERAL HOME IN HAMPTON. Mr. Richter was born in Charleston, S.C., on June 29, 1940, the son of the late Rexford LeRoy and Louise Baumgart Richter. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a professional guitarist and a local business owner. He was a member of the musicians union. He was a Lutheran.
Surviving are his wife of North Charleston, S.C., two sons, Jon Scott Richter, of North Augusta, S.C., and Walter Carl "B.J." Richter of Charleston, S.C., two daughters, Janet Louise Fechter, of Statesboro, Ga., and Sandra Kay Hoyt of Lakeland, Fla., two step-sons, Timothy Lawton Risher and Sean T. Risher, both of Summerville, S.C., one step-daughter, Michele Clark of Charleston, S.C., two brothers, Charles Richard Richter of Wadamalaw, S.C., and Kenneth L. Richter of Hanahan, S.C., two sisters, Carol Joy Dasher, Greenwood, S.C., and Mara-Lyn Richter Ryan of North Charleston, S.C., and eight grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Evelyn McGowen of Orange Park, Fla.; a daughter, Evelyn A. Orneiaz; a half-sister, Nancy Perkins and three grandchildren.

BARBER, Melvin
Melvin E. "Bud" Barber, 79, died on the morning of January 8, 2002, in Mount Pleasant, S.C. The funeral service, with full military honors, will be at the graveside in Arlington National Cemetery at 3 o'clock, Thursday, January 31, 2002. His nephew, the Rev. Douglas Meister will officiate. Arrangements were made at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MT. PLEASANT CHAPEL.
Bud was born in Mansfield, Ohio, on June 8, 1922, the son of Fay and Helen Oglesbee Barber. A graduate of Madison High School, he excelled in football and still holds the school record for longest interception.
During World War II, he served in the 44th Tank Battalion. He landed with the first troops in Leyte and his tank battalion was one of the first to reach the prison camp to free the survivors of the Bataan death march. He was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery in the fighting and received a battlefield commission.
After the war he remained in the Army reserves retiring after 26 years with the rank of Major. At the time of his retirement, he was commander of an ordinance group in Marion, Ohio. He had also led the 865th Engineering Group prior to his last assignment.
Bud attended the Ohio State University. He retired as general superintendent of the Mansfield Asphalt Paving Co. after 40 years service. He was a past president of the County Association of Ohio Contractors. He served as a Richland County Central Committeeman and was active in the Ohio Democratic Party. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Mansfield and was a 32 degree Mason at Mansfield Lodge #35 AM and the Canton Ohio Shrine and a member of the American Legion. Upon his retirement in 1993 he moved to Florida and later moved to Charleston, S.C., in 1995.
Major Barber is survived by his wife, Norma Howell Barber with whom he celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary on Christmas Eve. He is also survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Helen Barber of Columbus, Ohio, his daughter and son-in-law, Marta and George Bott of New Orleans, and Dr. Mickey Barber and her spouse, Dr. Mark Segal of Charleston, S.C. His five grandchildren, Brandt and Benjamin Barber, Chloe Bott, Cameron and Lindsay Segal also survive. He is also survived by his sister, Evadene O'Brien of Butler, Pa., and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Madeline Meister.

WILBURN, F.C.

For over 40 years, Mr. Wilburn was the owner of the Home Appliance Service Co. and an antique shop on 190 King St. He served in the U.S. Army in W.W.II in the European Theatre.
His wife Caroline Utsey Wilburn predeceased Mr. Wilburn. He is survived by the following: two daughters and sons-in-law, Faye Davis and her husband Holt, of Marietta, Ga.; Carol Chaffin and her husband Harry of Snellville, Ga.; one brother, William C. Wilburn of Kings Creek, S.C.; granddaughters and spouses, Traci Rogers and her husband Michael, Caren Meitz and her husband Jon; grandson, Geoffrey Chaffin; three granddaughters, Aimee Chaffin, Allison and Meredith Davis and great-grandson, Cooper Meitz.

Myra Dorothy Phillips, 89, died Saturday, January 12, 2002 at her home. Born November 19, 1912 in Savannah, Ga. she was the daughter of Richard Dole and Mamie Deason (nee Hankinson). A graduate of Ways, Ga. High School and MUSC School of Nursing Mrs. Deason worked at both Roper and St. Francis hospitals before retiring. She was a member of MUSC Golden Grads and volunteered at Roper and St. Francis hospitals. Her husbands Morris A. Murphy and Alva James Phillips, and brother Walter Deason preceded her in death. She is survived by two sons: Morris Andrew Murphy, Charleston, S.C. and Michael J.
