DORNSEIF, Dorothy
Dorothy Dudley Dornseif, 77, Dover, Ohio, formerly of Berwyn, Pa., and Kiawah Island, S.C., died on Wednesday evening, January 9, at Union Hospital, Dover.Dorothy was born on July 29, 1924, in Philadelphia, a daughter of the late Wilfred and Christina Kyle Dudley. She was a graduate of Overbrook High School, Philadelphia, class of 1942. She was a former member of Church of Our Savior, Johns Island, S.C., and served as clerk to the vestry. Dorothy belonged to the Kiawah Golf Club and held numerous offices with the Kiawah Ladies' Organization of Golf. Dorothy was also an active participant with the Kiawah Island Turtle Patrol, an organization which protected the nests of loggerhead turtles along the coastal waters.Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Wallace Dornseif, Dover, who died on December 20, 2001. She was also preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.Dorothy is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Carol D. and Philip W. Gold, Washington, D.C., and Joan E. and George M. Brode, Newcomerstown. She also leaves a son and his wife, James W. and Patricia I. Dornseif, Berwyn, Pa. There are also ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and her sister, Christine MacNeil, Willow Street, Pa., as well as several nieces and nephews.In keeping with Dorothy's requests, her remains will be cremated. No visiting hours will be observed. Private, family memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family. Public services and inurnment of the remains will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va., on Wednesday, February 27, at 11 a.m. The Rev. J. Pickett Miles, Jr., will conduct the services. The family suggests that memorials be made in Dorothy's name to the Sea Island Habitat for Humanity, 3487 McGill Court, Johns Island, S.C. 29455, the American Cancer Society, or to an individual's favorite charity. ROESSLE, Ernstine
Ernstine Dorothea Burkhardt Roessle, 82, died January 11, 2002. Born February 9, 1919, in Burkhardt, Wisc., she was the daughter of Frank Philip and Lilia Burkhardt (nee Christiansen). A 1939 graduate of the University of Wisconsin, she began her writing career in advertising in Chicago, Ill., and continued in Savannah, Ga., and Charleston, S.C. An active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, she served twice as the president of the Ladies Club. Mrs. Roessle was a senior docent with the Historic Charleston Foundation. She was an active member of the Charleston Alumnae of Delta Delta Delta Sorority and was instrumental in developing the sorority's annual Tour of Homes. Her husband of 50 years, Rudolph B. Roessle, Jr., preceded her in death in 1994. She is survived by her four children, Patricia Roessle Materka, Ann Arbor, Mich.; Rudolph B. "Rex" Roessle III, New Orleans, La.; Christy Roessle Bethke and Philip Burkhardt Roessle, both of Charleston; four grandchildren, Shannon Materka, Boston, Mass.; Marc Materka, Ann Arbor, Mich.; Daniel Bethke, and Alex Bethke, both of Charleston. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in February (date and time to be announced). Cleo Elizabeth Cantey, 68, of Mt. Pleasant, entered into eternal rest on Friday, January 11, 2002 at a local hospital. Miss Cantey was born in Charleston, S.C. to the late Joseph Cantey, Sr. and Cleo Elizabeth Purse Cantey. She was a catholic and began working in the Diocese of Charleston in 1964. In 1987 she was named to the office of "Chancellor for Administration" by the then Bishop of Charleston, Bishop Ernest L. Unterkoefler, representing the first time in the history of the diocese that someone other than a priest received the title, a title which she held until her death. In 1991, she received the papal honor "Pro Ecclesia et Pontiface" for her service to the church and Pope. Miss Cantey was a graduate of the High School of Charleston. She entered in 1954 the Women's Army Corps where she held the rank of sergeant and performed various administrative assignments. The priests of the diocese have sought her advice pertaining to diocesan administrative policies. Miss Cantey is survived by two brothers, Joseph Cantey, Jr. and wife Carolyn, and Jack Cantey and wife Rosemary, all of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; nieces, Cathy Cantey, Mary Cantey Jones, Maria Cantey White, Angela Cantey Clair, Jean Cantey Kiser, Elizabeth Ann Cantey and nephews, Joseph Cantey III, David Andrew Cantey, Michael Francis Cantey, Kevin Randall Cantey and John Robert Cantey, Jr. and several grand nieces and nephews. Mr. Stewart was a maintenance supervisor with Schueck Steel and was of the Baptist faith.He is survived by, his wife, Veronica Melton Stewart; daughters, Angela Stewart Adams of Summerville, Ann Marie Dermody of Ladson, Pamela Mosier of Johns Island; a sister, Julia Elizabeth Stewart of Moncks Corner; brothers, John Edward Stewart of Moncks Corner, Keith Stephen Stewart of Summerville, Ronald Wayne Stewart of Armada, Mich., and Clyde Ray Stewart of Moncks Corner; and nine grandchildren, Brittney, Amber, Kristen, Katie, Johnathan, Savanna, Hanna, Robert James Stewart Mosier, Little Stewart Adams; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Williams Stewart.The family will be receiving friends, Sunday night from 6 to 8 p.m., at CAROLINA MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME....For I will never be able to call out the honorable name of "Dad," but may your spirit, strength, and wisdom forever live on inside of me. I pray our father in heaven forever keeps you safe, and may one day we meet again. Good-bye to one of my favorite people in the whole wide world, and as you used to tell me "I love you to the stars."
