Henry Laurens Mellichamp, Jr., 86, of Mount Pleasant, S.C., died Thursday, January 17, 2002, at his residence. Mr. Mellichamp was born September 24, 1915, in Mount Pleasant, S.C., the son of Henry L. Mellichamp, Sr., and Mary Porcher Mellichamp. He was a machinist, carpenter, and electrician and retired from Mount Pleasant Boatyard. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Mount Pleasant and graduated from Murray Vocational High School.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Elizabeth Deer Mellichamp of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., four sons and daughters-in-law, Francis and Alice Mellichamp of Awendaw, S.C., Douglas and Susan Mellichamp of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Larry and Paula Mellichamp of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., and Derald and Kathy Mellichamp of Round Rock, Texas, one sister, Marie Gleaton of Mt. George A. Hampleton Holmes, 51, died Saturday in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Mr. Holmes was born in Colleton County and was the son of Mrs. Willie B. Hampleton Colmes and the step-son of Clarence Holmes. He attended the public school in Colleton County but finished high school at John "J" High School in Bronx, N.Y.
Surviving are, his mother of Walterboro; step-father of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one sister, Ora, Brooklyn, N.Y., and one brother, Theo of Walterboro.

Buren Edward Brown, 60, of James Island, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, January 16th at a local hospital. Mr. Brown was a lifelong resident of James Island and was the son of Minnie Lee Duke Brown and the late Denny Brown. He was employed by Montague Industrial; he enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. Mr. Brown is survived by his mother, Minnie Lee Duke Brown, his wife of 38 years, Millie G. Brown, one son, Gary Michael Brown and one daughter Lori Ann Pooser, four grandchildren, Chelsea Brown, Natalie Pooser, Michael Brown, and Carolyn Pooser, all of James Island; also two sisters, Roslyn Barfield of Charleston and June Faglier of N. Augusta, S.C. and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hazel (Maggie) Brown Phillips, of 623 Park Ave., Brooklyn, N.Y., departed on January 15, 2002, after an extended illness.
Mrs. Phillips was the first of ten children, born to Mr. Isaiah and Albertha Inabinett Brown on January 21, 1930.
Mrs. Phillips was married to Claude Timothy Phillips, who preceded her in death. She is survived by two sons, Ronald Dean Phillips of California and Donald Timothy Phillips of Stone Mountain, Ga., six sisters, Ivy Adams of Jacksonville, Fla., Joan McMillian of Decatur, Ga., Carrie Clark of Columbus, Ohio, Daisy Coats, Betty Black, and Viola Bonner, of Harleyville, S.C., and one brother, Roy W. Brown of St. George, S.C., one aunt, Mable McCants, two grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Also a very special friend, Mr. Charles Washington of New York City, N.Y.

GEORGETOWN - June H. Lundy, wife of C. Nolan Lundy, died Wednesday, January 16, 2002, in a Charleston hospital.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 19, 2002, at 11 a.m., in First Baptist Church of Georgetown. Officiating will be Dr. Ted Sherrill. A Committal Service, directed by GRAHAM FUNERAL HOME, will be held Monday, January 21, 2002, at 11 a.m. in Pine Crest Cemetery in Mobile, Ala.
She was born July 30, 1934, in Mobile County, Ala., a daughter of Idouma Weekly Havard and the late Ernest Herbert Havard.
She was a graduate of Vigor High School and attended Spring Hill College in Mobile. She had been a resident of Georgetown since 1971. Before moving to Georgetown, she was employed as a secretary with the U.S. Army in Texas and later at Brookley Air Force Base in Mobile.
She was a Charter Member of the Belle Isle Garden Club. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Co-ed Adult H-Lide Williams Sunday School Class. She also was a former Children's Sunday School teacher and a homemaker.
Surviving are, her husband, her mother of Chicasaw, Ala.; one son, Robert N. Lundy and his wife Amy of St. Petersburg, Fla.; one daughter, Claire Lundy-Surratt and her husband William of Georgetown; two grandchildren, Samatha June Lundy and William Nolan Surratt and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, Larry G. Havard.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, at the Funeral Home and immediately following the service on Saturday at the church.

HODGES, Andrew
Andrew Fullarton Hodges, 55, of Atlanta, Georgia died Friday January 11, 2002. Born August 26, 1946 in Wilmington, Delaware he was the son of Wiley Hodges, former Chairman of the Department of political science at the Citadel, and Jean Fullarton Hodges, a charter member of the League of Women Voters in South Carolina and a community activist in this city. He was a graduate of Charleston day School and Porter Gaud School prior to attending Saint Andrews School in Delaware. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After graduation he attended the University of Chicago to study political science under a Ford Foundation Fellowship. He later graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law. After joining the BAR, Mr. Hodges served as deputy County Attorney for Charleston County before moving to Atlanta to serve as an attorney for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Most recently, Mr. Hodges has served as principal counsel in the legal department of the Georgia Pacific handling environmental matters for the company. Mr. Hodges was an active member of Atlanta's historic preservation community, serving on the legal committee of the board of C.A.U.T.I.O.N., the neighborhood coalition that defeated the proposed Presidential Parkway route through Atlanta's historic residential districts. Hodges is survived by his wife, Pate Hodges, his aunt, Betty Fullarton, and two-step daughters, Kristin Anderson-Barrett and Karin Anderson. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday January 20, 2002 at the Unitarian Church in Charleston. BOWMAN, S.C. - Mr. Johnnie Lee ( JL) Mims, age 76, of 7430 Charleston Highway, Bowman died Friday, January 18, 2002, in an Orangeburg Hospital after an extended illness. Addie Elizabeth Fisher, 92, widow of Walter Thomas Fisher, died Wednesday, January 16, 2002, at a local hospital. Born February 25, 1909, in East Saint Louis, Ill., she was the daughter of William Issac Poston and Stella A. Poston (nee Summers.) She attended schools of E. St. Louis and was employed as a Registered Licensed Technologist with Baptist Memorial Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. She was predeceased by her sister Willnora Scheepmaker and is survived by her daughter Fredella (Fritz) Milne of Ladson; one grandson Walter Thomas Milne, granddaughter-in-law, Thelma Elizabeth Milne of Goose Creek; two great-granddaughters, Christina M. Warren and Alex Xavier Warren, all of Goose Creek. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 10 a.m., Monday, January 21, 2002. RIDGEVILLE - Mr. Claude A. "Arch" Hirst, 63, of 26245 Augusta Highway, died Thursday at his residence. Masonic services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 22, at the chapel of the Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Beaufort National Cemetery with full military honors.
Mr. Hirst was born April 16, 1938 in Beloit, Wisconsin, a son of the late Eldon Hirst and Eleanor Schwartz Hirst. He was a retired plant manager with Besteel and retired as a Senior Master Sergeant with the U.S. Air Force after 23 years of service. He was a member of Cottageville Masonic Lodge and was a 31st degree Mason. He was an avid fisherman.
Surviving are his wife of 17 years, Margie Giddens Hirst, a son, Michael Hirst of Fort Washington, Maryland, two daughters, Debbie L. Jones and Terry Valles, both of Phoenix, Arizona, a sister, Mary Ellen Watson of Madison, Wisconsin, 12 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Donna Rosenow.

GEORGETOWN - Linda G. Elliott, 54, wife of John Henry Elliott, Sr. died Thursday, January 17, 2002 in a Charleston hospital.

She was born October 5, 1947 in Georgetown County, a daughter of the late Joseph Madrick Goings and Eva Small Goings.
She was a retired school food service employee with Kensington Elementary School. She was a member of Georgetown Lighthouse Holiness Church and also served as Sunday school secretary.
Surviving are her husband; three sons, John Henry Elliott, Jr. and his wife, Zeta Kathryn of Myrtle Beach, Randy Earl Elliott and his wife Polly of Georgetown and Brian Keith Elliott and his wife Melissa also of Georgetown; three grandchildren, Jessica Renee Elliott, Randy Otis Elliott and Emma Caroline Elliott; two brothers, L.C. Goings and Linwood Goings both of Georgetown; three sisters, Susan Turner of Andrews, Doris (Frog) Poston and Jennifer (Peanut) Harrelson both of Georgetown and a number of nieces and nephews.

BLIDGEN, Harold
GREEN POND - Harold Francis Blidgen, 63, died Tuesday, January 15, 2002.
The funeral will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 19, 2002 in Lighthouse Tabernacle in Green Pond. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Beaufort, South Carolina.
Mr. Blidgen was born September 28, 1938 in Colleton County to the late Henrietta B. Fludd. He received his education at Colleton High School and pursued his education at Greenville Technical College. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War from which he was honorably discharged.
Mr. Blidgen was a member of Lighthouse Tabernacle where he served in many capacities such as the song leader, trustee, secretary, treasurer and many other leadership positions.
Survivors are his wife, Elouise W. Blidgen of the home, a daughter, Desmona Kamoto of Greenville; two sons, James Lamont White of Greenville and Herbert Brown of Philadelphia, Pa. and an aunt, Geneva Frasier of Green Pond.
