Entered into eternal rest on the morning of January 18, 2002, Suzanne Fishburne Stahl, 76, wife of Jack Edward Stahl, residence, Hanahan, S.C. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Edward Stahl are invited to attend the graveside services of the latter, Sunday afternoon, January 20, 2002, in Riverview Memorial Park, at 3 o'clock. Mrs. Stahl was born September 8, 1925, in Charleston, S.C., the daughter of the late George Rivers Fishburne and Anne Pickens Fishburne. She was a longtime Charlestonian and Episcopalian, a member of Saint Thomas Episcopal Church, the French Huguenot Church, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Huguenot Society. She was an accomplished stone sculptor, exhibiting in the Piccolo Spoleto Contemporary Sculpture Invitational in 1987. She gave much credit for the development of her talent to her teachers, John Michele, Corrie McCallum, and Normandie Kamar.
She graduated from Crafts School and Memminger High School, and attended the University of South Carolina and the College of Charleston. Her volunteer services included choir, the Red Cross, Girl Scouts, and the Chaplain Committee.
Mrs. Stahl is survived by her husband of Hanahan, S.C.; daughters, Sue Stahl Revord of Hanahan, and Karen S. Shuler of McClellanville, S.C.; grandchildren E. Lowry Shuler, III, Jennifer Revord Toelle, and Derek Revord; great-granddaughter, Meagan Toelle, son-in-law, David Revord, grandson-in-law Patrick Toelle; sister, Anne Fishburne Briscoe and niece and nephews of San Antonio, Texas. She was predeceased by her son John Edward "Skip" Stahl.

CALHOUN FALLS, S.C. - Mrs. Frances L. Tucker, 80, widow of Benjamin Tucker, Sr., died Tuesday, January 15, 2002, at her home.
Born in Augusta, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Amanda and George Barksdale. She was a member of Glovers A.M.E. Church, Calhoun Falls, S.C.
Survivors include three sons, Benjamin Tucker, Jr. (Levanie), of Brooklyn, N.Y.; Joseph Tucker (Mary), and Clarence Tucker (Hazel) of Calhoun Falls; eight daughters, Odessa Leaphart, Rosa Sanders, and Marion Walton, all of Brooklyn, N.Y.; Ann Weems (Vernon Thomas) of Newark, N.J.; Katherine Murray, Rebecca Tucker (Paul Edwards), Bobbie Reid (Clarence), and Christine Turner (Joel), all of Calhoun Falls; two brothers, Jake and Willie Paul; one sister, Eula M. Parks of Philadelphia, Pa.; 34 grandchildren, one deceased, 40 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Services are at 3 p.m., Sunday, January 20, at Glovers AME Church, Calhoun Falls, conducted by the Rev. Larry Merrill. Burial is the church cemetery.
Visitation is from 7 to 8 p.m., in the Eugene Brownlee Memorial Chapel of Abbeville and White Mortuary.
The family is at the home of a daughter, Bobby and Clarence Reid, 122 Florence St., Calhoun Falls, S.C.

TAYLOR, Amanda
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Amanda Karetas Taylor, 40, died January 17, 2002 at the Chesapeake General Hospital in Virginia.
She was born January 15, 1962, in Conway, S.C., a daughter of Wanna Mae Powell Karetas and the late Thomas Karetas.
Amanda graduated from Myrtle Beach High School in 1980, and was a program analyst with SPAWAR Systems Center, Wideband SATCOM Branch for the Department of Defense.
Survivors include her husband, CTOCS (SW) Thomas Jeffrey Taylor, US Navy of Chesapeake, Va., her daughter, Maegan Christine Taylor of the home, her mother, Wanna Mae Karetas, her brother, Thomas Karetas and wife Karen, two sisters, Margo K. Monroe and husband Jack, all of Myrtle Beach, and Susan K. Larson and husband Ken of Charleston, S.C.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, January 20, 2002, at MCMILLAN-SMALL FUNERAL HOME with Rev. Wayne Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Karetas family plot in the Ocean Woods Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Saturday from 6:00 until 8:00 at McMillan-Small Funeral Home.

Major Laurence Zelner, USAF (Ret), 81, husband of Susan Pitts Zelner died Tuesday, January 15, 2002 in Charleston. Major Zelner was born April 29, 1920 in New York City, N.Y., the son of Manuel and Hilda Ossusky Zelner. He was a journal listed Christian Science Practitioner, a life member of the First Church of Christ Scientists in Boston, Ma., a jazz guitarist and a 50 year life member of Etiwan No. 95, AFM. Surviving in addition to his wife of Charleston are 2 daughters, Jennifer Ruth Aagesen and Elizabeth Johnson; 1 son, Andrew Zelner; 2 stepsons, Bradford Shadday and Henry Kent Parks, Jr.; 1 stepdaughter, Kimberly Sue Lasby; 5 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Jestine Region Simmons of West Ashley died January 16, 2002 in New York City, N.Y. Funeral services for Mrs. Simmons will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Garden of Prayer Church, Mt. Pleasant, S.C. Mrs. Simmons was born in Charleston to the late Julia and Paul Region. She was a graduate of Burke High School and The McClennan-Banks School of Nursing. A retired Registered Nurse Administrator from the New York State Department of Corrections, she returned to Charleston in 1992. She is survived by her husband, Henry Simmons of Charleston, S.C., one daughter, Denise Simmons, one granddaughter, Kenia Simmons, and one great-grandson, William Bunce all of New York, N.Y.; two sisters, Evelyn Jackson and Wilhelmena Gethers both of Charleston, S.C.; three sisters-in-law, Mary Lee Mitchell and Thelma Region both of Charleston and Shirley Simmons of New York, N.Y.; two brothers-in-law, Jewel Mitchell and James Gethers both of Charleston, S.C. and other relatives and friends.

Lynwood "Bud" Locke, Jr. husband of Jane B. Locke, of Mt. Pleasant died Friday, January 18th at a local hospital. Born in Clearwater, Fla. to Mamie Hogan Locke and the late Lynwood D. Locke, Sr. Mr. Locke was retired from the U.S. Air Force where he served 20 years and had a tour in Vietnam. He was a graduate of Chicora High School and earned his associate degree from Trident Technical College. Mr. Locke was a former employee with the Medical University of South Carolina in the Anatomy Department. After working in the Anatomy Department at MUSC Bud then worked for McAlister-Smith Funeral Homes and Carolina Funeral Services. He was a member of the Preservation Society of Charleston, Carolina Children's Charity and the Girl Scouts of the USA. He is survived by his mother, Mamie H. Locke of Charleston, his wife, Jane Bledsoe Locke of Mt. Pleasant, a son, Lynwood D. Locke III and wife, Rhonda of Charleston, a daughter, Theresa Locke Watts and husband Joseph of Columbia, two stepdaughters, Tonya B. Bernard and husband Sean of Mt. Pleasant, Tasha K. Belcher of Colorado, three sisters, Norma L. Dukes of Bamberg, Sharon L. Sneed of Charlotte, N.C., Jean L. Phillips of Summerville, two grandchildren, Lynwood D. WALTERBORO - Mr. F. Bobby Ashley, 69, a retired electronics salesman, died Friday in a Charleston hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the graveside in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, conducted by Rev. John Wertz and directed by the Fred Parker Funeral Home.
Mr. Ashley was born June 6, 1932 in Honea Path, S.C. a son of the late Willie Aubron Ashley and Orabel Ashley Ashley. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. He was a graduate of Clemson University, Class of 1958, a Ham Radio Operator and a member of Quarter Century Wireless Assoc. and the S.C. Single Side Band Net.
Surviving are: son and fianc‚e, James Aubron Ashley and Sandra Patterson of Walterboro, son and daughter-in-law, Stephen Bobby Ashley and Meshelle Ashley of Aiken, sister and husband, Elizabeth and Perry Hall of Orangeburg, and two grandchildren, Cody Alexander Ashley and Braxton Taylor Ashley both of Aiken.

HINNANT, SR., George
KINGSTREE - George Allen Hinnant, Sr., 76, died Thursday in a Charleston hospital.
Mr. Hinnant was born in Wando, S.C., a son of the late John Alvin Hinnant and Harriett Hill Hinnant. He attended Berkeley High School and retired after 31 years as Assistant Fire Chief of the Kingstree Fire Dept. Mr. Hinnant was a Navy veteran of W.W.II, having served on a LST during the D-Day invasion of Normandy, and also retired after 20 years of service with the S.C. National Guard. He was a member of Midway Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Hazeline Harrington Hinnant of Kingstree; a son, George Allen (Jill) Hinnant, Jr. of Sumter; 2 daughters, Lois H. (Charlie) Mitchum and Melissa H. (Walter) Woodard, both of Kingstree; 6 grandchildren, Kim (Allen) Wilkes, Amy (Mike) Turner, Rebecca Mitchum, Emily Woodard, Marji Woodard, and Steven Woodard; 2 great-grandchildren, Hannah Wilkes and Brentley Turner.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday in the Williamsburg Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by Dr. Rodney Foster, Rev. Thomas Conway, Rev. Gusta Ganes and Rev. Elmer Lambert. Mr. Bruce was born July 27, 1938 in Dekalb County, Ala. and was a son of Irby C. Bruce and Thelma Gilbreath Bruce. He was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church and a graduate of Auburn University, Class of 1958.

Mark Anthony Willis, formerly of Charleston, South Carolina, died on January 4, 2002 in Arlington, Virginia.
