GIBSON, Heath
SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Heath Clifton Gibson, 22, of 25 Hagood Court, died Monday, January 21, 2002, in Boone, NC. A native of Spartanburg, he was a son of Carl Edward "Eddie" Gibson, Jr. of Spartanburg and the late Loretta Craddock Gibson. He was also preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Carl Edward Gibson, Sr., and his maternal grandparents, Dallas and Virginia A. Craddock.
He was a 1998 graduate of Boiling Springs High School, a student at Appalachian State University, a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, and a musician, having played lead guitar and written music for the band, Sydian.
Surviving in addition to his father are brothers and sisters-in-law, Carl Edward Gibson, III and his wife, Jennifer, of Mooresville, NC, Christopher Dallas Gibson and his wife, Melissa, of Spartanburg, and Jason Aharon Gibson of Charleston, SC; paternal grandmother, Doris M. Gibson of Spartanburg; and nieces and nephews, Mary Caroline and Sarah Catherine Gibson of Mooresville, NC, Jason and Alexus Gibson of Charleston, SC, and Taylor Gibson of Spartanburg.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 24, 2002, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel conducted by the Rev. David C. "Kirk" Brown, Chaplain at Christ School. Visitation will follow the service.

MCCOY, James
James Frederick McCoy, 84, of New Bern, N.C., died Monday, at his residence.
He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Tuscaloosa and the North Atlantic and Mediterranean. He also served on the U.S.S. Nicholson in the Pacific. Mr. McCoy was decorated with four Bronze Stars for participation in the European, African and Middle Eastern area as well as the Asiatic Pacific Area and Phillipine Sea Campaign. He was a member of the American Legion and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, at New Bern National Cemetery with military honors.
He is survived by one daughter, Elaine Roversi of Charleston, S.C.; one son, James F. McCoy, Jr., of Charleston, S.C.; two sisters, Mary Mohn of New Bern, N.C., and Margaret Hargett of Emerald Isle, N.C.; and five grandchildren, Adam Parrish Roversi, Dabney Parrish Hegg, James M. McCoy, Robert McCoy and Jodi McCoy.

Sallie Ruth Helton, 66, of Summerville, a retired assembler with Williams Technologies, died Monday at her residence.
The funeral will be at 4 p.m., Thursday at RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL. Burial will be in Plantation Memorial Gardens.
Ms. Helton was born July 18, 1935 at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, a daughter of Burle and Vernelle Southard. She was a Baptist. She was a graduate of Pensacola High School.
Surviving are three sons, Clyde Dwayne Helton and James Burle Helton both of Summerville; Donald Clyde Helton of Moncks Corner; two daughters, Denise Milton and Lanita Helton both of Summerville; four brothers, Burle Southard, Jimmy Ross Southard and Sammy Southard all of Pensacola, Florida; Sidney Scott Southard of Crest View, Florida; two sisters, Ruby S. Scranton of Pensacola, Florida; Burnite Fuller of Atlanta, Georgia; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

"Frank" Kinsey, Jr., 61, of 101 Wyoming Way, died Tuesday, Jan. 22 at a Colleton medical center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday in the chapel of BRICE W. HERNDON AND SONS FUNERAL HOME with Rev. Ricky Crosby officiating. Burial will be in Kinsey Cemetery.
Mr. Kinsey was born in Colleton County and was a son of the late Francis Benjamin Kinsey, Sr. and Sara Fontaine Kinsey. He was the former owner of the Lord Colleton Restaurant and recently retired. He was a member of the South Carolina National Guard and was a Baptist. He was first married to the late Ethel Avant Kinsey. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Surviving are his wife, Robin Johnson Kinsey; a son, James R. Kinsey, Sr. of Walterboro; two daughters, Ella K. Baldwin of Toccoa, Ga. and Amy K. Baker of Ruffin; two stepsons, Jeremiah Hadaway and Jimmy Hadaway, both of Walterboro; two sisters, Cynthia Constantine of Walterboro, and Sandra Green of Summerville; one brother, Richard Kinsey of Fairfax; and eight grandchildren.

Chief Hutto was born November 30, 1916 in Hutchison, Kansas, the son of the late Clarence J. Hutto and Frances Iva Reif Hutto McCallom. He was a Veteran serving in World War II and the Korean Conflict with 22 years of service. He was also a retired district manager of the Department of Social Security Administration, culminating in 40 years of government services.

ANDERSEN, Thomas
MURRELLS INLET - Thomas Evans Andersen, age 48 of Murrells Inlet, died Monday January 21, 2002 at a Myrtle Beach hospital.
Born November 11, 1953 in Columbus, Ga. he was a son of Joe Andersen and the late Nell Evans Andersen.
Surviving in addition to his father of Wilson, N.C. is a brother David Andersen of Atlanta, Ga., two sisters Nora Holder of Charlotte, N.C. and Sandy Bettinger of Sumter, S.C., two nephews and one niece.
Tom Andersen devoted his life as a firefighter. He was the Assistant Chief of the Surfside Beach Fire Department where he has been a member over 22 years. Tom served as an Adjunct South Carolina Fire Academy Instructor. He was instrumental in the creation of a local Hazardous Materials Response Team and served on that team as a Hazmat Technician. He was a member of the Horry-Georgetown Company Fire Chiefs Association, Charter member of the Grand Strand Fire Inspectors Association and a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He fished in the Arthur Smith King Mackerel Tournaments.
A memorial service will be 3:30 p.m. Thursday January 24, 2002 at Surfside United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles Inabinet officiating.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel.

HANNA, Joyce
Her family is mourning the passing of Fairborn, Ohio, resident Mrs. Joyce Hanna, 82, on Saturday, January 19. She was preceded in death by her husband, Col. Max E. Hanna (Ret.) and is survived by her five children, Margie Hanna Zeig of Quakertown, Pa., Pamela A. Feinour of Fairborn, Ohio, John W. Hanna of Charleston, S.C., Mary E. Williams of Dayton, Ohio, and Carolyn Y. Fucillo and Winthrop, Mass. Her 11 grandchildren, Max and Amy Hanna, Anthony, James, and Jenny Fucillo, Jamie, Hannah and Adam Williams, and Jamie, Jonathan and Shayna Feinour sorely miss her, as does her dog, Max. A sister, Pamela Hollis and a brother, Lionel Frusher, both of Great Britain, also survive her. Ms. Hanna was born in England but raised in India, the daughter of an officer in the British Army. She worked as a registered nurse in London during World War II where she met her husband, Max, a B-26 pilot. In addition to raising her children and leading a demanding life as the wife of an air force officer, Ms. Hanna spent more than 45 years as a professional volunteer. She first began her volunteer efforts at Kelly AFB, Texas, where she served in the former Dependents Assistance program. In Tachikawa, Japan, she began work in Family Services, an air force family assistance program, and continued this work for more than 30 years, accumulating more than 13,000 hours at the various bases her husband was stationed. She served ten terms as Family Services Emergency Chairperson and held virtually all positions in this organization during her tenure. Another project was the Officer's Wives Club Thrift Shop, which she chaired for many years. Ms. Hanna also volunteered for more than 25 years for the special needs children camp at Wright Patterson AFB, Children Have A Potential (CHAP). A highlight of her volunteer career came at the close of the Vietnam War when she coordinated the efforts of area volunteers assisting returning POWs and their families when they were reunited at Wright-Patterson AFB. For all her volunteer efforts she received many awards, citations and commendations including being chosen military-wife-of-the-year for Wright-Patterson AFB, being named as a finalist for nationwide Air Force wife of the year and being nominated as Dayton Women of the year. Joyce Hanna was also an active member of Christ Episcopal Church in Xenia, Ohio, and was beloved by the parishioners. A memorial service is scheduled for 6 p.m., Friday, January 26, at Christ Episcopal.
