ROUND O - Mrs. Mary Simmons McMillan, 63, of 1141 Sandy Landing Lane died Sunday at a Charleston hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Chapel of the BRICE W. HERNDON AND SONS FUNERAL HOME. Entombment will follow in Glendale Memorial Mausoleum.
Mrs. McMillan was born in Colleton County, a daughter of the late Kisstler Simmons and Genie Crosby Simmons. She was a retired employee with the South Carolina Health Department and was a member of the American Technology Association.
Surviving are her husband of 33 years, Douglas Ray McMillan, Sr., a son, Douglas Ray McMillan, Jr. and his wife Vikki of Walterboro, a grandson, Brent Jordan McMillan, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Linda and Mike Withrow of Bamberg, Pam and Nadim Zurick of Seria, and Pat and Charlie Diggle of Charleston, a special friend, Christie Bell, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, W. Rodgers Simmons.

CARTER, Elsie
MULLINS, S.C. - Mrs. Elsie Smith Carter, 96, widow of Dr. J.S. Carter, died Tuesday, January 22, 2002 at National Health Care Center in Columbia following an extended illness.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 23 at Cedardale Cemetery, with Rev. Paul Frey officiating. The services will be directed by COX-COLLINS FUNERAL HOME.
Mrs. Carter was born in Mullins, a daughter of the late Keen Dace Smith and the late Lula Galloway Smith. Mrs. Carter attended Lander College and was a long time owner of Carter's Drug Store in Mullins. For many years, Mrs. Carter was an active member of Macedonia United Methodist Church in Mullins.
Surviving Mrs. Carter are: a daughter: Rae Marie Floyd of Columbia; 2 sons: J.S. "Smitty" Carter, Jr. of Mullins and Bobby Peeples Carter of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister: Josephine Rutland of Columbia; a niece: Dinah Rutland of Columbia; her grandchildren: E. Terry Floyd, John S. Carter, III, Phoebe Carter and Rianne Thomas, all of Columbia, Brandon Carter of Charlotte, N.C. and Georgia Carter of Atlanta, Ga.; and her great-grandchildren: William Floyd of Charlotte, N.C. and Jessica Carter and Weston Thomas, both of Columbia.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
The family gratefully acknowledges the compassion and care provided by the staff of the National Care Center, Parklane Road, Columbia, S.C.
BARKER, Paul
Paul Earnest Barker, husband of Emilie W. Barker of Ladson, S.C., entered into eternal rest on the evening of January 21, 2002 at a local hospital.
Funeral services will be held at St. Luke's Lutheran Church on Thursday afternoon, January 24, 2002 at 2 o'clock. Burial will be in Plantation Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to The ARK, St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 206 Central Avenue, Summerville, S.C. 29483.
Mr. Barker was born December 24, 1926 in Shoup's Hollow, Virginia, a son of Charles S. and Ruby W. Barker. Mr. Barker served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946 and retired as a Chief Master Sergeant after serving 30 years in the U.S. Air Force. He worked in the supply department of the Charleston Naval Shipyard from 1975-1983. He was also a valued volunteer at the Charleston Naval Hospital for a number of years and was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Emilie W. Barker of Ladson, S.C., daughters, Kathy Cosgrove, Becky Nuzzi and son-in-law Tony Nuzzi, Tille Phillips and son-in-law Jeff Phillips all of Summerville, S.C. and Paula Andrews and son-in-law David Andrews of Whitmire, S.C., brothers, Fred J. Barker of Roanoke, Va. and David W. Barker of Saltville, Va., sisters, Katherine Maiden of Roanoke, Va., Edith White of Marion, Va. and Wynotta Morrell of Nashville, Tenn., grandchildren, Sarah Cosgrove, Nicole Nuzzi, Rachel Phillips, Philip Nuzzi, Rebekah Phillips, David Andrews, Jr. and Amy Andrews. He was pre-deceased by a sister, Tilma Anderson.

PIGATE, Leolun
TIMMONSVILLE - Leolun Vause Pigate, 89, died January 21, 2002, at a Florence hospital after an illness. She was born in Florence County the daughter of the late B. Ellie and Amy Matthews Vause. Her husband was the late Hoyt Pigate.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, January 23, 2002, at Bethany Free Will Baptist Church, directed by LATYON-ANDERSON FUNERAL HOME.
Mrs. Pigate was a member of Bethany Free Will Baptist Church and the Ruby Lee Severance Sunday School Class.
Surviving are, three sons, Robbie E. (Barbara) Pigate, C. Randy (Dianne) Pigate, and Joe ("Priss") Pigate, all of Timmonsville; four daughters, Willie Lee (Cecil) Johnson, and Gladys Lee, Timmonsville; Lynette (Gene) Baker, James Island, S.C.; and Bobbie (W.R.) White, Moncks Corner; a brother, A.J. Vause, Florence; a brother-in-law, Luther Parrott, Florence; 16 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

COOPER, Clifford
Clifford Jennings Cooper, of Summerville, died Saturday, January 19, 2002, at a Charleston hospital.
Graveside funeral services will be held at Beaufort National Cemetery, Thursday afternoon, January 24, 2002, at 1:30 o'clock.
Mr. Cooper was born on August 27, 1923, in Summerville, W.Va., a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Jennings Cooper. He was retired from the Charleston Naval Weapons Station. He was an U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife, Flora I. Anderson Cooper of Summerville; sister Eva Patton of Oklahoma; granddaughter, Stephanie Horton of Summerville; grandson, Johnnie Engwall of Manistree, Mich.; niece, Martha Bloss of Charleston; and one great-grandson, Jacob Horton of Summerville.

CRAWFORD, John
John Duff "J.D." Crawford, 84, of Mudville Road, Cross, S.C., a retired carpenter, died Monday in a North Charleston hospital.
The funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday morning, Jan. 24, 2002, in the CHAPEL OF DIAL-MURRAY FUNERAL HOME, MONCKS CORNER. Interment will be in Live Oak Memorial Gardens, Charleston. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. this Wednesday evening.
Mr. Crawford was born Sept. 15, 1917, in Hoodtown, S.C., a son of Ed Crawford and Ellie Gatlin Crawford. He is the widower of Rose Ann Rathbone Crawford. He was of the Methodist faith.
Surviving are a daughter, Shirley C. Miller of Summerville; three step daughters, Amanda Branton and Doris Easterling both of Goose Creek, and JoAnn Easterling of Charlotte, N.C.; three step sons, Bill Easterling of Cameron, and Obie Easterling, II, and Arthur Easterling both of Charleston; two sisters, Blanche Coalson of St. Stephen and Elviria Campbell of Fayetteville, N.C.; and twenty-one grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife of Charleston, S.C.; two daughters, Annette Chesnutt of Jacksonville, Fla., and Dorothy Dyall of Jacksonville, Fla.; one sister, Florine Chinnis of Ravenel, S.C.; one step-daughter, Debbie Matthews of Charleston, S.C.; one step-son, William Corbett of North Charleston, S.C.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Rickey was born on January 10, 1923 in Allen Township, Michigan, a daughter of the late Harley Freeman Quinn and Laura Hulda James Quinn.
She attended schools of Marshall, Michigan. She was a retired waitress and member of Ridge Baptist Church.
