SENECA — Helen Heller Walker, 86, of 211 W. N. Second St. died Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, at the Greenville Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Fairplay and the daughter of the late, Dr. John R. and Elizabeth Smith Heller. She was preceded by her husband, Bert H. Walker; three brothers; and three sisters.
She was librarian at the Seneca Library, receptionist with Memorial Clinic in Seneca and a member of Seneca Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by one son, Harold Walker and wife Linda of West Union, S.C.; one daughter, Alston and husband, Henry Laye and wife Alston of Spartanburg, S.C.; one sister, Rebecca Loveless of Blue Ridge, Ga.; four grandchildren, William Bert Laye, Claire Laye Abel, David Harold Walker and Dana Marie Walker; two great-grandchildren, William Hunter Laye and Noah Alexander Laye.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, with the Rev. Charles Dougherty, officiating at 2 p.m. graveside at Mountain View Cemetery in Seneca.
There will be no visitation. The family request that memorials be made to the Arthritis Foundation or Care Alliance Health Foundation, William Hunter Laye Memorial, 69 Barre St. Charleston, S.C. 29401.

HABERSHAM — Katie Lee Collins Smith, 82, of 412 Travis Smith Road, Turnerville, died Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, at Habersham Medical Center, Demorest.
Born in Franklin County, she lived most of her life in Stephens County and in Habersham County since 1951. She was a member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church, sang in the church choir and was a Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Surviving are son, Travis Horace Smith Jr. of Turnerville; daughters, Fran Franklin of Turnerville and Teressa Todd of Greenville; sisters, Irene Murray and Christine Howard, both of Toccoa; three grandsons; and two great-grandchildren.
She was the widow of Rev. Travis Smith Sr. and the daughter of the late Isomtill and Lila Jayne Morgan Collins. She was preceded in death by three brothers; and two sisters.
Services are at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Mount Zion Baptist Church by the Revs. Ronnie Thurmond, Charlie Hopkins and Anthony Shore; burial will be in the church cemetery with members of the Eastern Star in charge of graveside service. The body will lie in state from 2 p.m. until the funeral hour at the church. The family received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home, Toccoa.

ANDERSON — Sara Ann Connor Simmons, 62, of 902 Pine Cone Trail, wife of T. Clayton Simmons, died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002 at Anderson Area Medical Center.
Born March 29, 1940 in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Thomas C. Connor Sr. and Lois Stone Conner. She was a homemaker, a former member of the Nashville Songwriters Association, an antique dealer, and a member of Garner Memorial Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to her husband of the home; one son, Roger Alan Simmons and wife Amy M. Simmons of 308 Haynie Parkway, Belton, S.C.; one brother, Theron B. Connor and wife Sybil Connor of Anderson; several nieces and nephews including George Corbett Connor, Jr.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, George Connor, Sr., Thomas C. Connor, Jr., Larry B. Connor, and one sister, Edith Dean.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, conducted by Rev. Greg Murks. Burial will be in Old Silver Brook Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:30 until 6 p.m. Sunday at the northeast chapel.

FAIR PLAY — Mildred Rachel Sanders Shaw, 68, of 457 Durham Road died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Born in Hart County, Ga., she was a homemaker.
Surviving are sons, Donnie Mack Simpson of McCormick and Lamar Simpson of Fair Play; daughters, Judy Leroy of Westminster and Ann Cherie Hutchins of Fair Play; brother, Thomas Sanders of Townville; sister, Ella Mae Sanders of Anderson; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was the widow of Junior Shaw and the daughter of the late Lonzo Eppie Sanders and Elizabeth Thompson Sanders. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill Sanders and Lonnie Sanders; and two sisters, Pauline Whitfield and Mary Nichols.
Services are at 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, Anderson, by the Rev. Garland Collins; burial will be in New Silverbrook Cemetery, Anderson. The body is at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday.

ANDERSON — Thomas Edward Meeks, 74, of 302 Burris St., Anderson, died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002, at the Hospice House.
Born in Anderson, he was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Temple, was a retired dispatcher from the Yellow Cap Company and was a U.S. Air Force World War II veteran.
Surviving are widow, Shelby Jean Burdette Meeks of the home; stepsons, Billy Guy Powell and Jerry Floyd Powell, both of Anderson; stepdaughters, Debra "Debbie" Dean and Glenda Marie Rollins, both of Anderson, and Janice Moats of Six Mile; brother, Charles Troy Meeks of Anderson; sister, Betty Jo Christopher of Anderson; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was the son of the late Charlie Emmett Meeks and Eva Mae Culpepper Meeks. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Lee Meeks; and five sisters, Ollie McCrider, Ola Barnes, Ruth Owen, Odessa Jordan and Vernell Kelley.
Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at Gethsemane Baptist Temple by the Rev. Sam Duncan; burial will be in New Silverbrook Cemetery in Anderson. The body is at the home, where the family will receive friends.

Mann, Sudie Crocker
EASLEY, S.C. — Sudie Jane Yeargin Crocker Mann, 94, formerly of Anderson, died Friday, Nov. 1, 2002 at her residence in Easley.
She was born in Sandy Springs to the late Thomas L. and Annie L. Yeargin. She retired from Abney Mills in Anderson in 1966. Mrs. Mann was a member of the First Baptist Church in Easley and was active in the Church Circle.
Surviving are her only son and his wife, David L. and Dorothy W. Crocker of Easley; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Mann was predeceased by her first husband, Arthur Crocker; her seconde husband, J. E. Mann and her beloved daughter, Elizabeth Crocker Creamer; a sister, Emma Y. Buyken; and two brothers, Lawrence and Hugh Yeargin.
Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, in the chapel of Easley First Baptist Church conducted by the Revs. Dr. John Adams and David Anderson. Private committal services will be held in the New Silver Brook Cemetery in Anderson following the services.
The body is at Robinson Funeral Home and will be placed in the church, where the family will receive friends in the chapel of the First Baptist Church from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Sunday before the service.
She will be remembered as a loving and generous mother, grandmother, and friend-A tireless prayer warrior who was faithful in word, action and deed to share her love for and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.

PELZER — Phyllis Howard Janotta, 82, of 200 Old River Road died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2002, at her home.
Born in Greenville County, she was retired from Piedmont Shirt Company, served as president of the Williamston Senior Citizens Group and a member of Pelzer United Methodist Church.
Surviving are daughter, Grace Howard Ferrell of Pelzer; sister, Mary Murray of Simpsonville; brother, Haskell Howard of Easley, James Howard of Anderson, Lloyd Howard of Laurens and Edward Howard of Greenville; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was the widow of Kurt Janotta and the daughter of the late George Washington and Tessie Estelle Brown Howard.
Memorial services are at 3 p.m. Sunday at Pelzer United Methodist Church with the Rev. Terry Mitchell officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the church before the services.

TOCCOA, Ga. — Nezzie Payne Blair Taylor Jackson, 95, of Toccoa died Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, at the Clary Care Center.
Born in Stephens County, where she lived all of her life. She was a homemaker and a very active member of the First Baptist Church of Toccoa and a member of the Philathia Sunday school class. She was also a member of the Down to Earth Garden Club.
Surviving are daughter, Jimmie Blair Friar of Toccoa; brother, Warren Payne of Rome; four grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren.
She was the widow of Roy Jackson and the daughter of the late Thomas Memory "T.M." and Julia Thomason Payne. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Farris Blair; her second husband, Hillard Taylor; a daughter, Jo Odum; two brothers, Wayne Payne Sr. and Guy Payne; three sisters, Bernice Payne Stevens, Mamie Payne Stephens and Genia Payne Moore; three stepsons, Logan Taylor, Herschell Taylor and T.H. Taylor Jr.; and a stepdaughter, Mary Nell Taylor.
Services are at 11 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Jim Nelson and the Rev. Dr. Henry Fields; burial will be in the Sunshine United Methodist Church cemetery.
The family will be at the home of her daughter, Jimmie Friar, 5764 Fernside Drive, Toccoa, and will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Hamilton, Curtis 'Tut'
EASLEY, S.C. — Calvin Curtis "Tut" Hamilton, 73, of 309 Three and Twenty Road died Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, at Anderson Area Medical Center following a short illness.
Born in Pickens County, a son of the late Mack and Dessie McDonald Hamilton, Mr. Hamilton was a life-long, self-employed farrier and blacksmith, and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Hamilton was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
Surviving are his wife, Doris McKittrick Hamilton of the home; a son, Chris Hamilton of the home; and two sisters, Kathryn Cartee of Easley and Helen Looper of Greenville. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hamilton was predeceased by a son, Donald Curtis Hamilton; and by three brothers, Mack Jr., Carl and Robert Hamilton.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Revs. Dave Shorter and Hubert Bishop officiating.

SALEM, S.C. — Lalon Lane Green, 70, of 11226 S.C. 11 North died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
A native of Oconee County, Mr. Green was the son of the late Kuhtman Zachery Green Sr. and Mary Belle Wigington Green. He was a retired employee of the Oconee County Road Department, a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the American Legion.
Mr. Green is survived by lifelong companion Pauline Dodgins of Salem; son, Alan "Butch" Dodgins of Salem; daughters, Elaine Davis of Tavares, Fla., and Evelyn Smith of Salem; brothers, Myron Green and Morris Green, both of Walhalla, and Bruce Green of Salem; and a sister, Mabel McCann of Anderson.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Green was predeceased by brothers, Kuhtman Zachery Green, Jr. and Ralph Green.
Funeral services will be conducted from the graveside at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at Boones Creek Baptist Church.
The body is at Davenport Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002.

Farmer, 'Forest Lee'
SENECA, S.C. — Mrs. "Forest Lee" Hankins Farmer, 89, of 110 Pelfrey St., wife of the late Raymond D. Farmer, died Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, at Oconee Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Farmer was born in Pelzer. She was the daughter of the late William (Pete) and Clarkie Rutledge Hankins.
Mrs. Farmer was formerly employed with Utica Mohawk in Seneca and was of the Holiness faith.
Surviving are two sons, Richard D Farmer of Fairplay and Rufus L. Farmer of San Antonio; two grandchildren raised in the home, Elizabeth L. Busch of Richland and William D. Farmer of Dallas. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Mrs. Farmer was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband, her parents, one son, William A. Farmer, two grandchildren and one great grnadchild.
Graveside service will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, in Oconee Memorial Park.
The family will visit with friends and relatives before the service from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at Seneca Mortuary.
Family members will be at their respective homes.
