Mrs. Mary Frances Woods Feaster
CHESTER - The funeral for Mrs. Mary Frances Woods Feaster of 105 Simmril St. will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11 at Purity Baptist Church. Pastor Cliff Dye will officiate and be assisted by Minister Donald Woodard, the Rev. Moses Lightener, the Rev. John Rawlingson and Minister Vanessa McVay. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Feaster died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, N.C.
Born in Star, N.C., she was a daughter of the late James Woods and the late Mary Ramsey Woods. A member of Purity Baptist Church, where she belonged to the Usher Board, the Kitchen Committee and the Hymn Choir, Mrs. Feaster attended the public schools of Fairfield County.
Survivors include six sons, Willie Feaster and Charles Feaster, both of Paterson, N.J., Roosevelt Feaster of Baltimore, Md., and Jesse Mack Feaster, Perry Allen Feaster and Harvey Feaster and his wife, Vickie, all of Chester; a daughter, Martha Ann Woodard and her husband, Minister Donald Woodard, of Chester; four brothers, James Woods and his wife, Sallie, of Washington, D.C., William Woods and his wife, Mildred, of Elizabeth, N.J., Edward Woods of Newark , N.J. and Isaac Woods of Chester; and four sisters, Adell Thompson and Martha Craig, both of Chester, Gladys Woods of Bronx, N.Y. and Arleatha Stradford.
She was predeceased by her husband, James Feaster; a son, Johnny Feaster; two daughters, Janie Feaster and Pearla Mae Feaster Roberts; and one sister, Louise Davis.
The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, the Rev. and Mrs. Donald Woodard, at 521 Roundtree Circle, Chester.
Viewing will be today, Friday, Dec. 10 from 3 to 9 p.m. in the Chris King Memorial Chapel at Christopher King's Funeral Home, 703 Old York Road, Chester.

Mrs. Margaret 'Sissy' Noland, 59
GREAT FALLS - The funeral for Mrs. Margaret "Sissy" Barber Noland of 400 Chester Ave. will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Friday, Dec. 17 at Mount Zion Baptist Church. The Rev. Philip Blankenship will officiate and burial will follow in Mount Zion Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Noland, 59, died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004, at Palmetto Richland Hospital.
Born in Chester on April 28, 1945, she was a daughter of the late Robert L. Barber Sr. and Edith Hawkins Barber. A member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, Mrs. Noland graduated from Chester High School and was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, W. Dexter Noland; a son, Duncan Noland and his wife, Kelli, of Marion, S.C.; two daughters, Brantlee Noland of Great Falls and Brooke Noland of North Myrtle Beach; two granddaughters; two brothers, Robert L. "Bobby" Barber Jr. of Morehead City, N.C. and Charles "Tuck" Barber of Thomasville, N.C.; and a sister, Patti B. Smith of Chester.

Mr. Richard Gaston Elkins, 49
CATAWBA - Graveside services for Mr. Richard Gaston Elkins of 360 Dot Faris Road will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14 in Grandview Memorial Park Garden of the Cross with Pastor Jerry M. Broughton officiating.
Mr. Elkins, 49, died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004, at the home of his daughter.
Born in Rock Hill, he was a son of the late Leonard Gaston Elkins and Ann "Tootsie" Railey Elkins Blanks. A self-employed carpet and vinyl installer, Mr. Elkins was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his daughter, Kelly Elkins of York; a sister, Terry Varnadore of Great Falls; and one grandchild.
Visitation will be tonight, Friday, from 7-9 p.m. at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, and at other time at the home of his daughter, Kelly Elkins, at 825 Tirzah Road, York.

Mr. Olin Julius 'Sonny' Gibson, 67
CHESTER - The funeral for Mr. Olin Julius "Sonny" Gibson of 547 Skyline Drive will be conducted at 4 p.m. today, Wednesday, Aug. 25 at Barron Funeral Home. The Rev. Dale Roddey will officiate and burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
Mr. Gibson, 67, died Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, at his residence.
Born in Great Falls on Feb. 10, 1937, he was a son of the late William Henry Gibson and Daisy Scott Gibson. A retired employee of Springs Industries, Mr. Gibson attended school in Great Falls.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Miller Gibson; a daughter, Karen Reid and her husband, Ronnie, of Chester; one granddaughter; one great-grandson; four brothers, Pressley Gibson of Chester, James Gibson of Rock Hill, Curtis Hinson of Catawba and Bill Hinson of Great Falls; and two sisters, Panny Horton of Great Falls and Peggy Morrison of Chester.

Mrs. Katherine 'Sarah' Pendergrass
CHESTER - The funeral for Mrs. Katherine "Sarah" Hughes Pendergrass of 3903 Woodrow W. Drive in the Wilksburg community will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9 at Zion Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Curtis Washington will officiate, the Rev. W.W. Thompson will deliver the eulogy and the Rev. James Good, the Rev. Keith McCrorey, the Rev. Bobby Featherstone and J.D. McClurkin will assist. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Pendergrass, 77, died Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, at Wallace Thomson Hospital in Union.
Born in Chester County on March 16, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Columbus Hughes Sr. and Hattie Sims Hughes. A member of Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church, where she served as a deaconess and Sunday school treasurer, Mrs. Pendergrass also served there as a member of the Usher Board and the A.P.&B. Society No. 17. She attended school in Chester County and graduated from Friendship Junior College in Rock Hill. Mrs. Pendergrass was a former employee of Chester Sportswear.
Survivors include her husband, Wilson Pendergrass; three sons, Robert Pendergrass of the home, Karl Pendergrass and his wife, Katherine, of Lockhart and Joe Pendergrass of Gastonia; a daughter, Patricia Gainey of Chester; three brothers, William Hughes and his wife, Jearlean, of Charlotte, H.B. Hughes and his wife, Alberta, of Brown Summit, N.C. and John Hughes and his wife, Annie Bell, of Chester; two sisters, Agnes Witcher of Lynchburg, Va. and Hattie Lee Glover and her husband, Ronald, of Chester; and two grandchildren.
She was predeceased by five brothers, Claude Edd, Pete, Jesse and his wife, Vergie, Columbus Jr. and his wife, Juanita, and Louis.
The family will receive friends tonight, Friday, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St., Chester, and at other times at the residence, 3903 Woodrow W. Drive, Chester.

Mrs. Virgie Wright Hemphill, 79
CHESTER - The funeral for Mrs. Virgie Wright Hemphill, 79, of 547 Columbia Road will be conducted at 1 p.m. today, Friday, Oct. 15 at Brooklyn A.M.E. Zion Church. The Rev. Willie H. Evans will officiate and the Rev. Sandra Sistare will deliver the eulogy. Burial will follow in Old Zion A.M.E. Zion Cemetery.
Mrs. Hemphill, 79, died Monday, Oct. 11, 2004, at Piedmont Medical Center.
Born in Chester County on June 25, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Jessie Wright and Ada Whitlock Wright. A member of Brooklyn A.M.E. Zion Church, where she served as as deaconess, a missionary, a choir member and a former member of the Trustee Board, Mrs. Hemphill was also a former member of Old Zion A.M.E. Zion Church. She was employed with the Chester County School District for 30 years and attended school in Chester County.
Survivors include two sons, James Whitt Hemphill of the home and Eddie D. Hemphill and his wife, Helen, of Chester; two sisters, Lucille W. Cunningham and Annie P. Wright, both of Chester; and four grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Eddie Lee Hemphill; two sisters, Jessie M. Wright Graham and Sadie Wright Macon; and a brother, Alexander Wright.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Eddie D. Hemphill at 116 Henry Woods Drive, Chester.
The body may be viewed from 9 to 11 a.m. today, Friday, at King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St., Chester. The body will be placed in the church at noon today.

Mr. Robert Cornwell McDaniel, 70
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Graveside services for Mr. Robert Cornwell McDaniel, formerly of Chester, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 24 in Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. David Sealy officiating.
Mr. McDaniel, 70, died Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, in Little Rock.
Born in Chester on Feb. 12, 1934, he was a son of the late Raymond McDaniel and Evelyn Cornwell McDaniel. A retired animal scientist with the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, Little Rock campus, Mr. McDaniel was also a retired livestock specialist with Cooperative Extension Service. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Little Rock for over 30 years and retired from the Army Reserves.
Survivors include his wife, Betty McDaniel; a stepdaughter, Dona Bailey of Little Rock; six brothers, Charlie C. McDaniel and his wife, Sylvia, of Mooresville, N.C., Roy McDaniel and Roger McDaniel, both of Carlisle, Harold McDaniel and his wife, Bette, of Kennesaw, Ga., George McDaniel of Tampa, Fla. and Walter McDaniel and his wife, Judi, of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; and two sisters, Margaret Hodge and her husband, Joel, of Sumter, S.C. and Frances Carns and her husband, Danny, of Chester.

Mrs. Elaine Nazimek Bynum, 61
BLACKSTOCK - The funeral for Mrs. Elaine Nazimek Bynum of 930 Hopewell Church Road was conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30 at Saluda Street Church of God. The Rev. Gerald Funderburk and the Rev. Thomas Brazelle officiated and burial followed in Chester Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Bynum, 61, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, at her residence.
Born in Lancaster County on Oct. 5, 1943, she was a daughter of the late Frank Edward Nazimek and Lucille Mungo Nazimek. A member of Saluda Street Church of God, Mrs. Bynum attended Mt. Pisgah Elementary and high school in Jefferson, S.C. A homemaker and retired employee of Springs Grace Fabrication after 23 years of service, Mrs. Bynum was raised by her grandmother, Mrs. Nettie Mungo.
Survivors include her husband, Winfred Davis "Bubba" Bynum; two daughters, Lisa Dawn Austin of Myrtle Beach and Sherry Lynne Vaughn of Blackstock; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and a brother, Wayne Ronald Mangum of Gastonia.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Sheryl Darlene Bynum; and two grandchildren, Anthony Davis Vaughn and Elizabeth Anne Austin.

PITTSBURGH - The funeral for Mr. Fred D. Giles, formerly of Chester, was conducted Tuesday, Nov. 23 at Samuel J. Jones Funeral Home in Pittsburgh.
Mr. Giles, 51, died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004.
At an early age, Mr. Giles joined Macedonia Baptist Church and was employed with U.S. Steel in Pittsburgh.
Survivors include his father, Fred G. Giles; a sister, Besheria Dunlap; a local aunt, McCree Foote of Chester; and a local uncle, Freeman Smith of Chester.

Born in Lando on June 15, 1913, he was a son of the late Curtis Hefner and Jerusha Laney Hefner. A member of Lando Church of God, Mr. Hefner attended school in Lando and was retired from Manetta Mills in Lando.
Survivors include three sons, Orson P. Hefner of Lancaster, Charlton G. "Buster" Hefner of Union and Carlton D. "Pete" Hefner of Blackstock; two daughters, Winifred Bennett of Richburg and Vanessa Watts of Chester; two brothers, Rayford Hefner of Edgemoor and Richard Hefner of Irmo; four sisters, Dorothy Evans and Temmer Ramsey, both of Edgemoor, Pauline Small of Great Falls and Edra Emser of Rockwell, S.C.; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
