Mr. Zerbst was born September 5, 1926, in Charleston, S.C., the son of Julius D. Zerbst and Dorothy Schwartz Zerbst. He was a retired vice-president with Ruscon Construction Co., Inc. He was a 1950 graduate of the Citadel and served with the U.S. Navy. He was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, the Arion Society, Deutscher Bruderliche Bund, the Charleston Elks Lodge and the Civil Engineering Club.
He is survived by his wife, Jean, of 53 years; a son, Rob Zerbst, three daughters, Gwen Z. Bates, Debbie Z. Vealey and Rhonda Z. Brooks, all of Charleston, S.C., and seven grandchildren.
MURRAY, JR., Michael
Michael Patrick O'Connor Murray, Jr., 78, of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, February 19, 2002, in a local hospital. Mr. Murray was born on May 7, 1923, in Ninety Six, S.C., a son of Michael Patrick O'Connor Murray, Sr., and Mae Waits Murray. He served in the Army Air Corps and received a certificate of valor for 50 combat missions flown in World War II. He attended Wofford College and graduated from General Motors Institute in 1948 and moved to Charleston to work for Ray Waits Motors. He was the owner of Mike Murray Pontiac and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia Califf Murray, his daughters, Virginia Murray Owens (Jann), and her husband, Coleman Clyde (Bud), Patricia Murray Cummings (Patsy), and her husband, William (Bill), Pauline Murray Hairston (Peg), and her husband, Peter. His grandchildren, Coleman Clyde Owens, III (Cole), and his wife, Christina, Patrick Langdon Owens, David William (Will) Berryman, Virginia Davidson Hairston, Rachel Hunter Hairston, and his great-grandchild, Coleman Drew Owens.

She is survived by two sons, John H. Disher, III, of Sullivans Island, and Thomas P. Disher of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; two daughters, Joan D. Wood of Summerville, S.C., and Mary Anna Disher of Charleston, S.C.; one sister, Mamie P. Southard of Danville, Va.; four grandchildren, Whitney Popelka, Bryan Turnbull, Parrish Wood and Thomas Disher; one great-grandson, Jack Popelka.

WILLIAMS, Helen
Mrs. Helen S. Williams, wife of Mr. H. J. Williams Sr. died Wednesday morning at the residence after an extended illness. She was 83.
Mrs. Williams was born in Columbia August 19, 1917, a daughter of the late Herbert A. Stack and Orrie Elezar Stack. She was retired manager of Williams Furniture Store, a member of the Fairfax First Baptist Church where she was a avid church worker, a member of the Eastern Star, and Treasurer of the Allendale Hampton Alcohol and Drug Abuse Center. Mr. and Mrs. Williams were married for 63 years.
Surviving besides her husband are 2 sons: Ernie Williams and Joel Williams both of Fairfax. 1 daughter: Ouida Cone of Sycamore. 1 brother: Raymond Stack of Greenville. 1 sister: Madge Kearse of Allendale. She was predeceased by 1 brother, Joseph Stack and a sister, Rita Warren. There are 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Earl Franklin Stansbury, age 82, died February 19, 2002 in a local hospital.
Mr. Stansbury, was born in Marion, Ohio on November 6, 1919, he was the son of the late Earl Dewy Stansbury and Verda Pendleton. Mr. Stansbury attended Crowfield Baptist Church. He was a member of the Dorchester Masonic Lodge, the VFW of Goose Creek and the Naval Fleet Reserve #50. A service will be held Friday, February 22, 2002, 2 p.m. at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, entombment will follow in Carolina Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Edna Sharpe Kinsey, of Bamberg County Nursing Center, wife of the late Bertice Clemson Kinsey, died Wednesday, February 20, 2002, in a Columbia hospital.
She was born April 10, 1913, in Orangeburg County, the daughter of the late Martin VanBuren Sharpe and the late Alma Faye Chavis Sharpe. She was a member of Bamberg Pentecostal Holiness Church, Bamberg, S.C. She was a retired homemaker. She enjoyed quilting and visiting the sick.
Funeral services will be Saturday, February 23, 2002, 11 a.m., at Bamberg Pentecostal Holiness Church. Rev. John Carter, Rev. Johnny McCormick, and Rev. Donnie Delk officiating. Burial will be in the South End Cemetery.

He retired from both the Charleston Naval Shipyard as a Management Analyst and as Treasurer and General Manager of Charleston Naval Shipyard Credit Union Banks. He was also a member of Solomon Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Omar Shriners and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife of Charleston, S.C., one daughter, Beth D. and husband, Roy E. Mevers, III of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., one sister, Charlene D. Bunch of Charleston, S.C., one brother of Johns Island, S.C., three grandchildren, Margaret E. Mevers, Roy E. Mevers IV and Benjamin L. Mevers. He was preceded in death by his son, John T. Driggers.

BROWN, Josephine
Mrs. Josephine Brown, daughter of the late John Brown and Henrietta Brown Murray, was born June 29, 1904, in Johns Island, S.C.
She was a member of Wallingford Presbyterian Church where she served on the Usher Board faithfully.
Those who will cherish the memory and hope to meet their beloved on the other side are, her daughters, Mrs. Ethel V. Brown (the late Richard A. Brown, Sr.) of James Island, S.C., Mrs. Loiuse Smalls (the late James Smalls) of New York, Ms. Ida Mae Brown (Eugene) of Charleston, S.C., sisters, Mrs. Evelina Robinson (the late Alexander Robinson) of Mt. Vernon, N.Y., the late Louise Brown, brothers, the late Isaac Brown of Charleston South Carolina, the late William Brown of Charleston, S.C., 20 grands, 46 great-grands, 28 great-great grands, one great-great-great-grand, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

COBURN, William
William Clay Coburn, 42, husband of Mrs. Cynthia Gant Coburn of 1520 Dawson Branch Road, Summerville, S.C., died Saturday at a Charleston hospital after an extended illness. Funeral services will be held 12 noon, Saturday, February 23, 2002, at the House of God, Ridgeville - Pringletown Community with Elder Ervin Capers and Elder George Rump, officiating. Mr. Coburn was born December 12, 1959, in St. George, S.C., a son of the late Ms. Frances Walters and the late Mr. and Mrs. Ransom Coburn. He was a dedicated member of the House of God in Ridgeville where he served as a member of the usher board, and trustee board. He was a graduate of Harleyville-Ridgeville High School. He was an outstanding truck driver and was employed by Trident CSI prior to his illness.
Surviving are his devoted wife, Mrs. Cynthia Gant Coburn of Summerville, S.C.; one daughter, Ms. Shakeria Coburn of Summerville, S.C.; two sons, William Spencer Coburn of Aberdeen, Md., and Christopher Coburn of Summerville, S.C.; three brothers, Kenneth (Mary) Walters of St. George, S.C., James Walters of Summerville, S.C., and Johnathan Bell of Tampa, Fla.; four sisters, Wilhelmenia (John) King of Ridgeville, S.C., Iris (Samuel) Rhett of Jacksonville, Fla., Mrs. Karonia Crosby of Columbia, S.C., and Mrs. Willa Walters Jackson of Opalocka, Fla. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
CARLSON, Ruth
Ruth Hills Carlson, 80, of Charleston, passed away, Tuesday, February 13, 2002, at her residence, after fighting a battle with cancer. Mrs. Carlson was born Saturday, July 30, 1921, in Grand Rapids, Mich. She was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII and was stationed with the WAVE Squadron at Parris Island, near Beaufort, S.C. Ruth is remembered for her creativity and gardening skills. She won numerous awards year after year for her flower arrangements at the Antelope Valley Fair in Lancaster, Calif. She was also an avid doll collector and doll maker. Ruth is survived by a son, Adam Chase, a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Tracy Harler, a daughter and son-in-law, Kristine and Bruce Bromberger, a son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Jennifer Carlson, son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Peggy Carlson, a son Christopher Carlson and ten grandchildren. Visitation with the family will be Friday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at 2065 Church Creek Dr., Springfield Subdivision, West Ashley. The funeral service will be Saturday, February 23, 2002, at 11 a.m., in Old St. Andrews Parish Episcopal Church. Burial will be in the churchyard cemetery. SIMCOX, Olof
Olof Griggs Simcox, 77, of Goose Creek, died Wednesday, February 20, 2002 at his residence.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 24, 2002, graveside, at Carolina Memorial Gardens, directed by CAROLINA MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME.
Born in Crossville, Tenn., he was a son of the late Elbert and Martha Ellen Wilson Simcox. He was retired from the U.S. Navy. Mr. Simcox was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Anne Simcox and a daughter, Janet Simcox. Survivors include daughters, Diane Baldwin of Summerville and Margaret Bowers of Alexandria, Virginia; a sister, Valeria Hall of Crossville, Tenn.; brothers, Carl Simcox of Michigan and Frank Simcox of California; grandchildren, Trish Baldwin and Bruce Baldwin, both of Summerville.
