Mrs. Marie Detyens Fabian Burbic, age 86, of Vestavia Hills, Ala., and Charleston, S.C., passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2002.
She was born in Georgetown, S.C., but resided in Birmingham most of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Paul K. Fabian and Albert L. Burbic, Sr.; her parents, Hasford Walker Detyens and Sallie Cox Detyens; twin sister, Marion Doar Detyens; brothers, Hasford Walker Detyens, Jr. (Happy) and Charles Rutledge Detyens.
She is survived by two sons, Kessler Fabian of Vestavia Hills and Lester Burbic (Nancy) of Hoover, Ala.; daughter-in-law, Starr Burbic of Hoover, Ala.; grandchildren, Cendy Burbic, Bonnie Burbic, Trey Burbic, Lisa Burbic and Leslie Green; and two great-grandchildren; brother, William J. Detyens (Susie) of Wando, S.C.; sisters-in-law, Annette S. Detyens of Charleston, S.C., and Judy B. Detyens of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; brother-in-law, Carl V. Walker of Hoover, Ala.; and special nieces and nephews.
She was raised in Charleston, S.C., and was active in the First Baptist Church (oldest Baptist Church in the South); member of Vestavia Hills Baptist Church; former president of Red Bud Garden Club; member of The Club; charter member of Chace Lake Country Club; Snee Farms Country Club in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; served five years at St. Vincent's Women's Auxiliary; an avid sports fan following Auburn University athletic teams. She loved handwork, gardening, playing golf, and traveling.
Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at 11 a.m., at Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at Ridout's Valley Chapel. NICHOLS, S.C. - Mr. H.P. "Poteat" Ford, 76, widower of Betty Watts Ford, died Saturday, March 2, 2002, at Mullins Nursing Center after an illness.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m., Tuesday, March 5, at Riverside Cemetery, with Rev. Ricky Donaldson officiating. The services will be directed by COX-COLLINS FUNERAL HOME.
Mr. Ford was born December 8, 1925, in Marion County, a son of the late Hardy LeRoy Ford and the late Donnie Elvington Ford. Mr. Ford was a retired automobile body repairman. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post #82 in Nichols. Mr. Ford was a member of Nichols Baptist Church.
Surviving Mr. Ford are, his children, Nevelda Graham and her husband Craig of Nichols, Harold Ford and his wife Debbie of Nichols and Kathi Hayes and her husband Steve of Nichols; six grandchildren; a brother, John R. Ford of Loris; and a sister, Erie Lake Daly of Moncks Corner.
Mr. Ford was predeceased by a brother, Sherwood Ford.

SHEA, George
George Timothy Shea, 60, of North Charleston, died March 1, 2002 at his residence following a long illness. Mr. Shea was born in Boston, Mass. He was a retired caseworker with the federal Medicaid program. Mr. Shea is a graduate of both North Quincy High School and a 1962 graduate of Quincy Junior College, Quincy, Mass.
Mr. Shea was an active member of the 7th MASS Continental Life, part of the 182nd Division of the U.S. Army Reserves. He was a member of Second South Carolina Regiment, a Revolutionary Ware Re-enactor, member of the Knights of Columbus, and a volunteer at Charlestowne Landing. Mr. Shea was a volunteer at Pine Street Inn, Boston, Mass., aiding the elderly homeless.
Mr. Shea is survived by a daughter: Lynn and (Neal) Walton of Abington, Mass., a son: Timothy Shea of Weymouth, Mass., an aunt, Wilma Baker and her husband Kenneth Baker, of Watertown, N.Y.

Louise Rolling Drew, 78, of Charleston died Saturday, March 2, 2002 at a local hospital following a short illness. She was born October 17, 1923 in New Hartford, New York, the daughter of James H. and Edith M. Rolling. She is survived by her husband Howard F. Drew of Charleston; a daughter, Catherine D. O'Brien of Cincinnati; a son, Douglas Drew and his wife Theresa of San Diego; and two grandchildren, Hilary O'Brien and Alexander Drew. She was a graduate of Smith College, a retired librarian of the Cincinnati Public Library, and a member of the Huguenot Church, The Charleston Symphony Orchestra League, and the Preservation Society of Charleston. John Frederick Rogge, 82, widower of Muriel E. Rogge, of Summerville, S.C. and formerly of Glastonbury, Conn., died Thursday, February 28, 2002 in Alexandria, Va.

Mr. Rogge was born on June 7, 1919 in Elizabeth, New Jersey, a son of William A. Rogge and Lena Ryan Rogge. He graduated from Georgia Tech and was a retired executive for Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in E. Hartford, Conn. He was a member of St. John the Beloved Catholic Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. Financial Executives Institute, Ramblin Wreck Club, Miler Country Club and the Charleston Bridge Group.
Survivors include his son, John Rogge, Jr. of Exton, Pa.; three daughters, Carolyn Winters and Catherine Call, both of Alexandria, Va. and Barbara Christjohn, of Atlanta, Ga.; two brothers, William A. Rogge of Indiatlantic, Fla. and Stanley Rogge, of Stuart, Fla.; his sister, Ann Driscoll of Ocean City, Md.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.

VELOSO, Berlino
Berlino Dahan Veloso, 69, of N. Charleston, died Saturday, March 2, 2002, at MUSC Hospital following a lengthy illness. Mr. Veloso was born in Salay, Misamis Oriental, Philippines. He was the son of the late Melecio and Felisa Dahan Veloso. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Regina Digal Veloso and son Neil Veloso of North Charleston who, with his wife Jennifer, gave him three grandsons, twins, Andrew and Joshua, and Benjamin. He is also survived by two daughters, Josephine Veloso of North Charleston and Mary Anne Player of Philadelphia who, with her husband Dr. Mark Player, gave him twin grandchildren, Devon and Mark, Jr. He is survived by his brother Alvin Veloso and his wife of Montreal Canada and three sisters and three brothers all of the Philippines.
Mr. Veloso was a retired Navy CPO and also retired as Finance Director for the city of Hanahan. He also worked as a tax technician with H&R Block for 23 years and later owned Veloso Tax Service. Mr. Veloso was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus and attended St.Thomas The Apostle Catholic Church. He was a member of the Navy Fleet Reserve, the Visayas and Mindanao Association and the former president of the Filipino Community Center.
Mr. Veloso was educated at Trident Technical College and completed his B.S. Degree in Business Administration from Baptist College.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 6, 2002 at St. Thomas Catholic Church, 6650 Dorchester Road, N. Charleston. Burial will follow in Carolina Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Mattox died Saturday, March 2, 2002. Born in North Tarreytown, N.Y., she was a daughter of John E. and Nancy Jane Bushel Brennan. A 1982 graduate of the USC School of Nursing with a BSN in Nursing, she earned her Masters in Nursing from USC in 1988. She also graduated from the Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Program at Georgetown University in 1997. She was employed by Palmetto Baptist Hospital beginning as a nurse tech, staff nurse R.N., Head Nurse of NICU (1986), clinical Nurse Specialist for Women's and Children's Services (1988) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program instructor and a member of NANN (National Association of Neonatal Nurses.)
Mrs. Mattox was a member of Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church. She will be remembered as a devoted and loving daughter, wife, mother, sister and dear friend.
Surviving are her husband, Scott Mattox; sons, Scottie and John Mattox and daughter, Christie Mattox, all of the home; her parents of Beaufort; brother, Danny Brennan of Charleston; and sisters, Sharon Brennan of Charleston, Colleen Baxter and Laurie Harle, all of Charleston.

Estelle Wright Teal Arnette, 67, of Tram St., Moncks Corner, S.C., a former inspector for Adams Millis Hosiery, died Saturday, in a Charleston hospital.

Surviving are, two daughters, Charlotte T. Cruppenick and Tammie T. Mullinax, both of Moncks Corner; a sister, Carolyn L. Damon of Winston Salem, N.C.; and six grandchildren.
