Rodney Dwight "Rod" Saalfeld, 54, of Charleston, S.C. died Wednesday, March 6, 2002 in a local hospital. The relatives and friends of "Rod" Saalfeld are invited to attend his Memorial Service Friday, March 8, 2002 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL at 2:00 o'clock. Friends may call at Stuhr's Mount Pleasant Chapel one hour prior to service.
Mr. Saalfeld was born in Columbus, Nebraska, a son of Duane E. and Doris Foust Saalfeld. He was a hair stylist with Nicks Salon of Mt. Pleasant and a US Air Force veteran.
Surviving are his mother, Doris Foust Saalfeld of Charleston, S.C., two brothers, Rick D. Saalfeld of Grand Island, Nebraska and Randy L. Saalfeld of Charleston, S.C., and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father.

HOLCOMBE, Rebecca
Rebecca F. "Becky" Holcombe, of Goose Creek, died Tuesday, March 5, 2002, in Hanahan. Born November 23, 1915, in Parlors, S.C., she was the daughter of Benjamin and Evelyn Felder (nee Parler). Mrs. Holcombe was a homemaker, and nurse. She and her late husband, Carl T. Holcombe, owned and operated Holcombe's Garage and Body Shop in North Charleston. She was a member of the Goose Creek United Methodist Church and St. Johns United Methodist Church, Johns Island. She is survived by her son Carl T. Holcombe, Jr., and his wife, Marina of Goose Creek; and two granddaughters, Jessica Holcombe and Michelle Stanley. Funeral services will be held, 11 a.m., Friday, March 8, 2002, in the chapel of MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 100 S. Goose Creek Blvd. Interment will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, at Jerusalem Cemetery, Santee, S.C. The family will receive friends, Thursday, March 7, 2002, from 7 to 9 p.m., at the funeral home.

The relatives and friends of Mrs. Mattie Jenkins and those of her children, Mr. Willard S. Jenkins, Sr.; Mr. Nathaniel Jenkins, Sr., Mrs. Annabell J. Maxwell, Mrs. Carrie M. Frazier, Mrs. Martha Accosta, Mr. Phillip Jenkins, Mr. Terry L. FRAZIER, Dorothy
Dorothy Elizabeth Frazier, 81, of Goose Creek, died Tuesday, March 5, 2002, in a local hospital.
Funeral services will be held, 3 p.m., Friday, at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, burial will follow in Carolina Memorial Gardens.
Born May 14, 1920, in Raleigh, N.C. Mrs. Frazier was retired from Trailways Bus. She was of the Baptist Faith. Survivors include, two sons, Gene Frazier and his wife Lyn of Goose Creek, Bob Frazier and his wife Marge of Summerville; six grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.
The family will be receiving friends, 2 to 3 p.m., Friday at CAROLINA MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME.
GROOMS, Kathleen
Kathleen Baker Grooms, 72, of Goose Creek, S.C., died March 5, 2002, at a Charleston hospital.
Funeral services will be held at New Life Baptist Church, Goose Creek, S.C., Friday afternoon, March 8, 2002, at 1 o'clock. Burial will be in Summerville Cemetery. Mrs. Grooms was born November 24, 1929, in Horry County, S.C., a daughter of the late Oscar Baker and Lila Thompkins Baker. She was a homemaker and a former employee of the Manhattan Shirt Factory. She was also an active member in the New Life Baptist Church and a member of the DAV Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include three daughters, Kathy Grooms Sparks of Louisville, Ky., Deborah Grooms of Goose Creek, S.C., and Betty Morea of Summerville, S.C., three sons, Edward Grooms of Goose Creek, S.C., David Grooms of Columbia, S.C., and Kenny Grooms of Long Island, S.C., a brother, Gene Baker and sister, Willa Mae Mincy, both of James Island, S.C. nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

John Francis Skerritt, Jr., 72, husband of Shirley M. Skerritt, of Ladson, S.C. died March 3, 2002 at a Summerville hospital.

MORRIS, Mary
WEST COLUMBIA - A memorial celebration of the life of Mary Julia Hiers Morris, widow of Jack B. Morris of Charleston, will be held at 3 p.m., on Friday, March 8, 2002, at the Harvest Church in Lexington. Graveside services will be held at Live Oak Memorial Gardens in Charleston, S.C., Saturday, March 9, at 2 p.m. The visitation will be held Thursday, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Turbyfill residence, 126 Sausage Lane, West Columbia. THOMPSON FUNERAL HOME OF WEST COLUMBIA is in charge.
Mrs. Morris was born in Florence, S.C., a daughter of the Reverend William F. Hiers and Leila Groseclose Hiers. She was a former teacher who taught in the elementary schools of South Carolina for 30 years. She was a member of the South Carolina Retired Educators Association, National Retired Educators Association, and the Charleston County Retired Educations Association. She was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the International Order of the Kings Daughters and Sons, Riverland Terrace Garden Club, Christian Women's Club, and Senior Citizens Club of James Island. Mary was a member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church where she was a choir member for 50 years.
She will be greatly missed by her daughter and son-in-law, Marila and Trip Turbyfill, granddaughter, Allison Andres, grandsons, Kyle and Christian Turbyfill, great-grandchildren, Brittany Alexandria Morris Andres and Collin Uriah Duffle, and her doggie Daisy.
ELLIS, Loring
HAMPTON, S.C. - Mrs. Loring Snelling Ellis, 86, of 405 Oak St. West in Hampton, died Wednesday morning at a Hampton hospital after an extended illness.
Born March 18, 1915, in Allendale County, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Willie Snelling and Gussie Dunbar Snelling. Mrs. Ellis was a member of the First Families of S.C., United Daughters of the Confederacy and New York C.S. Lewis Society and was a member of Higher Ground Christian Fellowship Church. She was the widower of Calder Vincent Ellis, Sr.
Mrs. Ellis is survived by her son, Calder Vincent Ellis, Jr., of Orlando, Fla.; one sister, Gussie Bell Nicholson of Columbia; two grandchildren, Alyson Shirer of Lexington and Casey Page of Mooresville, N.C.; three great-grandchildren, Catherine Shirer, James Calder Shirer and Carson Page; one aunt, Adelaide Blount of Andrews.
Funeral services will be held, Saturday, at 11 a.m., at Lower Three Runs Baptist Church in Martin, S.C., with burial following at the church Cemetery, conducted by Rev. Billy Mew and Rev. Terry Roberts and directed by PEEPLES-RHODEN FUNERAL HOME OF HAMPTON.
Friends may call at the chapel in Hampton on Friday evening from 6 until 8 p.m.

BRISENDINE, Rose
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - Mrs. Rose Mary Sanders Brisendine, 67, of #1 Oak Creek Drive, Hilton Head Island, died early Monday morning in Tucson, Ariz., while visiting family members.
Mrs. Brisendine was born in Hampton County, January 5, 1935, a daughter of the late Murray Ray DeLoach and Ollie Aline Thomas DeLoach. She had retired from the Department of Social Services in Hampton after 27 years of service. She was a graduate of Winthrop College, and was one of the founding members of Friends of Hospice in Hampton County. She was a member of the Hilton Head Womens Association, the Hilton Head Jazz Society, the Hilton Head Sail and Power Squadron, and the Audubon Society. She was a member of the Hilton Head First Presbyterian Church and former member of the Hopewell Baptist Church in Hampton. She was first married to the late B. Paul Sanders. Surviving are, her husband, Robert "Bob" Walker Brisendine of Hilton Head; two sons, Dwayne Paul Sanders and B. Rhett Sanders both of Hampton; two step-sons, Mark Allen Brisendine of Atlanta, and Scott Douglas Brisendine of Tucson, Ariz.; two step-daughters, Lanie Lee Hoffman of Righteous, Md., and Julie Ann Guzzo of Harley, Pa. There are 13 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m., Friday, in the Hampton First Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Greg Clements, and the Rev. Dr. Jamie Norris, with burial in the Hopewell Cemetery, directed by PEEPLES-RHODEN FUNERAL HOME IN HAMPTON. Friends may call at the Chapel in Hampton from 6 to 9 p.m., Thursday, and Friday until 2 p.m., when the casket will be placed in the church prior to services.
The family suggests that those who wish may send memorials to the Friends of Hospice, P.O. Box 909, Estill, S.C. 29918, or the Hopewell Cemetery, Hampton, S.C. 29924.
TUCKER, Lois Graham
Lois Graham Tucker, 73, of Summerville, died Monday in a North Charleston hospital.
Memorial Service will be held Friday, March 8, 2002, at 1 o'clock in Tri-County Cremation Center Chapel, 11000 Dorchester Road, Summerville. Burial will be private.

Mrs. Tucker was born on January 20, 1929, in Silsby, Texas, a daughter of the late Harry Graham and Molly Seabolt Teal. She attended schools in Texas. She was a retired Glove Inspector with North Hand Protection. She was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are, two daughters, Eva Glassburn of McCormick, S.C., Ada Loesberg of Summerville, S.C.; one son, Henry Melton of Walterboro, S.C.; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one niece and three nephews all from Texas.

Joseph Edward Elsey, 77, of Moncks Corner, a retired groundskeeper with the Berkeley Motel, died Wednesday at a North Charleston hospital.
The graveside funeral service will be at 4 p.m., Thursday at Wassamassaw Baptist Church Cemetery. Burial will be directed by RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL, Moncks Corner.
Mr. Elsey was born October 3, 1924 at Ravenel, S.C., a son of Joseph Allen Elsey and Selina Davis Elsey. He was a member of Wassamassaw Baptist Church.
Surviving is a brother, Gary Elsey of Moncks Corner.

Martha Lena Chaplin, 90, of Charleston, SC, formerly of Columbus, Ga., died Wednesday, March 6, 2002 at her home. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday March 9th at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Columbus with the Rev. Frank Mann officiating. Interment will follow in the Church cemetery according to STRIFFLER-HAMBY MORTUARY, Macon Rd, Columbus. The Family will receive friends Friday evening from 6PM until 8PM at the funeral home.
Mrs. Chaplin was born December 13, 1911 in Columbus, Ga., daughter of the late Aaron B. and Mattie T. Miller Land, she was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, The Order Of The Eastern Star and The Muscogee County Board of Education for more than 13 years. Mrs. Chaplin was preceded in death by her husband, Richard William Chaplin, III.
Survivors include two sons, Richard William Chaplin, IV, of Charleston, SC, and David Chaplin of Columbus, one daughter, Mrs. Warren K. Scoville of Griffin, Ga, one sister, Elizabeth Davis of Columbus, one brother, John H. Land of Columbus, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. Farr was born December 3, 1918 in Charleston, SC the son of Asa Abel Farr and Elizabeth Boyd Farr. He was a retired pipefitter with the Charleston Naval Shipyard. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church.
He is survived by a son, James R. Farr of Cottageville, SC, a daughter, Lois Joy Farr Gough of Dallas, Texas, 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. His son, Jerry Boyd Farr, predeceases him. Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, 3374 Maybank Highway, Johns Island, SC 29455.
