WALKER, Edith
Edith T. Walker, 76, widow of George Lindsay Walker, died Sunday, March 10, 2002, in a Walterboro hospital.
The funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2002, in Canaan Baptist Church, Round O, S.C. Burial will be in Heavenly Rest Cemetery.
Mrs. Walker was born in Colleton County and was the daughter of the late Robert Tracy and Angie Tracy. She attended the public schools in Colleton County.
She became a member of Little Rock Holiness Church, Cottageville, S.C. early in her life and in later years joined Canaan Baptist Church, Round O, S.C.
Surviving are four sons, George Harris Walker, Jr. (Mary Alice), James Matthew Walker (Vera), Alex Jerome Walker (Nannette), and Glenn Lorenzo Walker (Karen), one daughter, Maryann Walker North; all of Colleton County, S.C.; one brother, Marvin Tracy, Jr. (Mary) of Walterboro, S.C.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

MOLONY, Emily
Emily Louise Carter Molony, 82, of Charleston, died Saturday evening, March 9, 2002 in a local hospital. She was the widower of Henry A. "Gus" Molony, Sr. She was born July 4, 1919 in Charleston to Grayson S. and Louise Scott Carter. She was a graduate of Memminger High School and Rice Business College. She retired as vice president of Molony Distributing Company. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church and the Ladies of Charity and active in the school's PTA for many years. She was also a charter member of the Shaftsbury Investment Club and the Quis Qui Auxiliary. She was predeceased by a brother, G. Stacy Carter. She is survived by a son, Henry A. Molony, two daughters, Patricia M. Miller and Margaret M. Kulp, all of Mt. Pleasant, nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Liturgy of Christian Burial today, 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church with burial in Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens. LESSER, Ruth
Ruth Emma Lesser, 80, died Monday, March 11, 2002, in North Charleston, S.C. Born November 19, 1921, in Stark, West Virginia, she was the daughter of George P. and Lydia Pearl Tincher (nee Workman). She married her husband, the late Irvin H. Lesser, on June 12, 1949, and together the moved to Florida in 1957. An accomplished artist she received numerous awards for her oil paintings. She was often the sole exhibitor at art exhibitions including the South Dade Gallery of Art in 1966. In 1966 she became the Director of Children and Adult Art Classes and from 1966-68 served as Director of the Art Exhibit Hal in Perrine, Fla. She was a member of the National League of American Penwomen, and was recognized in the Two Thousand Women of Achievement annual publication for distinguished contemporary achievement. An avid sports enthusiast, she enjoyed playing and watching golf and was a fan of football and baseball, especially the Atlanta Braves. Preceded in death by three brothers, Harrison, Jake and Jessie Tincher and sister Josie Markham, she is survived by her three sons, Arthur Allen White and his wife Sandra of Goose Creek, S.C.; Richard D. Lesser of Ocala, Fla.; Robert Lesser and his fianc‚e Dorothy Goss, of Ladson, S.C.; three brothers, Jack Tincher of Madison, W.Va.; Frank Tincher of Texas; Fonzo Tincher of North Charleston, S.C.; sister, Janice "Sissy" Dingess of Van, W.Va.; 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. WALTERBORO - Mr. Pete Hartley Smoak, 78, of 1497 Smoak Road, died Sunday at a Walterboro hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, at the chapel of the BRICE W. HERNDON AND SONS FUNERAL HOME. Interment will follow in Sandy Dam United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Smoak was born in Charleston County, a son of the late Sylvester H. Smoak and Emma Hiott Smoak. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was a retired mechanic with Walterboro Motor Sales. He was a member of Sandy Dam United Methodist Church and was the husband of the late Nerma Jones Smoak.
Surviving are two sons, Levern Smoak of Walterboro and Jimmy Smoak of Copperas Cove, Texas, four daughters, Ruby Jackson of Round O, Dorothy Jackson of Terrell, Texas, Patsy McDonald and Kathy Faulkenberry, both of Walterboro, four sisters, Gladys Benton of Ravenel, Mattie Jean Jordan of Round O, Emma Del Nettles and Allie Elliott, both of Charleston, 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

DAVIS, Clarence
Clarence Frederick Davis, of Bamberg, S.C., husband of the late Ruby Lott Davis, died the afternoon of March 10, 2002, in Barnwell County Nursing Home.
Mr. Clarence was born May 24, 1923, in Bamberg, S.C., the son of the late Levi Davis and the late Maggie Morris Davis. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Bamberg and was educated in the schools of Bamberg. He was a retired instructor in carpentry and building at Bamberg Job Corps. He was a long-time member of AA of Denmark, and a VFW member in Bamberg as a veteran of W.W.II, serving in the U.S. Navy from January 1942, to November 1946.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at 2 p.m., at First Baptist Church of Bamberg. Rev. David Pohto officiating. Burial will be in the South End Cemetery, Bamberg.
Survivors include, one daughter, Mrs. Jean Brown of Eutawville, S.C.; one son, Robert L. Davis of Bamberg, S.C.; one brother, Isiah Davis of Asheville, N.C. He was preceded in death by one son, Ronnie Lott, one brother, Marion Davis, Sr., three sisters, Margaret Davis Sandifer, Dorothy Davis Creech, Shirley Davis George; 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews.

She was born October 12, 1948, in Charleston County, a daughter of the late Thomas Wilson Walker and Louise Martin Walker.
She was a resident of April House in Loris and a member of Loris First Baptist Church. She enjoyed crafts as her hobby.
Surviving are, five brothers, Woodrow W. Walker of Florence, Ben Walker and Dorman K. Walker both of Georgetown, Hamp Walker of Andrews and Frank M. Walker of Conway; three sisters, Helen W. Driggers of Summerville, Ruth W. Zurcher and Janie W. Yarborough, both of Georgetown and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by brothers, James Allen Walker, Peter James Walker and two infant brothers.

Worth, Texas, and Harold Kamper of Central City, NB.
MOSIMANN, Elise
Elise Madeleine Mosimann of Charleston, died Saturday, March 9, 2002 at a local hospital. She was the daughter of Thomas Francis and Elise de Vineau Mosimann. She was a graduate of the College of Charleston and the Emory University School of Library Science. She was a librarian at St. Andrews High School and Winthrop Training School. Later she returned to Charleston and was a librarian at Memminger High School and Murray Vocational High School. She was also Supervisor of Elementary School Libraries in Charleston. She was head of the Extension Department of the Charleston County Library and later became head of the Children's Department from which she retired. She loved children and young people and many loved her. She served as President of the South Carolina Library Association, President of the Charleston Pilot Club and President of the Charleston Deanery of the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women. She was very active in her church, the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. She sang for many years in the adult choir, under the direction of her mother. She worked actively with the Sisters of Charity of Our Lady of Mercy, driving to the mission on John's Island and assisting them with transportation when needed. She was a counselor at Camp St. Mary's for many summers. She is survived by four sisters, Octavie Mosimann of Chicago, IL, Louise M. Smith of Mt. Pleasant, Lillie M. Sexton of Fairfax, VA, Denyse M. Mouzon of Alexandria, VA, and one brother, James E. Mosimann of Rockville, MD, twenty-four nieces and nephews and numerous grand nieces and grand nephews. Charlotte Wagener Howe, 94, died Saturday March 9, 2002 at a hospital in Charleston, SC. Born June 25, 1907 in Charleston she was the daughter of the late Osgood Madison Howe, Sr. and Cherrie Lou Wagener Howe. She attended Bessie Tift College in Forsyth, Georgia. Miss Howe was an accomplished violinist. She was a millinery buyer and designer for a firm out of New York for many years. She later retired from Sacred Heart Catholic School in Davenport, Iowa. Mr. Pettigrew was born March 18, 1914 in Parsons, Tennessee, the son of James D. Pettigrew and Pearley Jones Pettigrew. He was a graduate of Memphis State University and served with the U.S. Army during W.W. II. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of the James Island Presbyterian Church. He was founder and charter member of Parsons Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Parsons, Tenn., a member of the Gideon Society and the Masonic Lodge, Parsons, Tenn. He dedicated his life to work of the Church and Family.
He is survived by his wife of James Island, S.C.; a daughter, Linda P. Bishop of Folly Beach, S.C.; 2 brothers, J. Douglas Pettigrew of Brownsville, Tenn. and Parker O. Pettigrew of Pompano Beach, Fla.; 2 granddaughters, Melissa B. Rabon of Summerville, S.C. and Alison B. Crane of James Island, S.C.; 2 great-grandsons, Zachary L. Rabon and Tyler O. Rabon both of Summerville, S.C. He is predeceased by a brother Myron Pettigrew.

Lynnette C. McCabe, 62, of Goose Creek, died after a lengthy illness on the evening of Sunday, March 10, 2002. Her funeral service will be 11:00 o'clock Wednesday morning in J. Lynnette was born November 22, 1939 in Iva, S.C., a daughter of the late John W. and Sara F. Hilley Carter. She formerly worked in the payroll and accounting department at the Charleston Naval Shipyard. She was a member of Crowfield Baptist Church and since 1971 was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
A loving wife and mother, she is survived by her husband of 40 years, Wilton H. McCabe; her daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Lynn (Tim) Fickle of Simpsonville, S.C.; her four sons, Charles Glen Ellington of Atlanta, Ray Robin Ellington of Missouri, William H. (Laura) McCabe of Molena, Ga., and Joseph W. (Kippy) McCabe of Goose Creek. Mr. Estep was born February 5, 1927 in Central City, Pennsylvania, the son of Lester J. Estep and Evelyn Williams Estep. He was a retired manager with S.C. Electric and Gas Company. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina and served with the U.S. Navy during W.W. II. He was a member of the Nativity Catholic Church and a life member of the Elks Lodge #242, Knights of Columbus, the American Legion Post #147 and the James Island Yacht Club.
He is survived by his wife of James Island, S.C.; 2 daughters: Teresa E. Atwood and her husband Wayne of Florence, S.C. and Catherine M. Estep of James Island, S.C.; 3 sons, James L. Estep and his wife Kathy of Catania, Italy, Daniel B. Estep, Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla. and Joseph K. Estep and his wife Elaine of Hubert, N.C.; 6 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mrs. Harold (Esther) Edgerton, 98, died peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on March 9, 2002, in Charleston, S.C., in the home of her granddaughter, Janice Dixon Key. She was the daughter of Clara and William Garrett, born September 8, 1903, in Hamilton County, Neb. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Eugene Edgerton, her son, William Eugene Edgerton, and her daughter, Mary Louise Edgerton Dixon. Surviving family include son, Robert Frank Edgerton of Seattle, Wash., 7 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Edgerton attended the University of Nebraska, receiving a degree in mathematics, music and education and then attended the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Mass. She was skilled as a pianist and was blessed with a lovely singing voice. She worked as a teacher both in Aurora, Neb. and in the Boston public schools. She was a member of the Payson Park Church in Belmont, Mass. Mrs. Edgerton was an active member of the International Chapter, P.E.O. Sisterhood since 1928, a member of Chapter C in Belmont, Mass., and the MIT Matrons. Mrs. Edgerton was loyal to her church, family, and friends and always gave generously of herself wherever she was involved. She was a loving wife and mother and a great helpmate to her husband, Harold Edgerton, in his work as a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he was a professor emeritus of electrical engineering and co-founder of Edgerton, Germeshausen and Grier, Inc. With her husband, Harold, Mrs. Edgerton established the Edgerton Explorit Center in Aurora, Neb., the Edgerton Research Vessel at the New England Aquarium, the Edgerton House dormitory at MIT and endowed several scholarships and chairmanships. The Edgertons, along with the Germeshausens and Griers, funded the EG&G building at MIT and Mrs. Edgerton funded exhibits at the Science Center at the Boston Museum of Science with Mrs. Polly Germeshausen.
After many years in Belmont and Cambridge, Mass., Mrs. Edgerton lived for several years at Brookhaven at Lexington, Mass. and then lived in Charleston, S.C. with her granddaughter and family for the last four years of her life. A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 16, 2002 at Payson Park Church in Belmont, Mass. with interment at Mount Auburn Cemetery following the service.
