FUNDERBURKE, Vera
SUMTER, S.C. - Vera Shuler Funderburke, 96, widow of Kenney P. Funderburke, died Wednesday, March 13, 2002 at a local nursing center.
Born in St. Stephen, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Charles T. Shuler and the late Eugenia E. Platt Shuler.
Mrs. Funerburke was a member of Grace Baptist Church.
Surviving are one son, Kenney P. Funderburke, Jr. of Summerville; 7 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Eugene C. Funderburke.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Chapel of the Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Thomas Painter, officiating.
Burial will be in Sumter Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

LAKE CITY: Mr. Jerry Legrand Weaver, 70, died Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at his residence after an illness.
Mr. Weaver was born in Lake City, a son of Otto Weaver and the late Earline Powell Weaver. He was a retired farmer rural mail carrier for Kingstree, and he attended Bible Outreach Church.
Survivors include: His wife, Anna Maurice Lee Weaver of Lake City; his father, Otto Weaver of Lake City; three sons, Glenn (Judy) Weaver and Billy (Julie) Weaver, both of Lake City, and Gerald (Jennifer) Weaver of Greensboro, N.C.; two brothers, Keith Weaver of Sumter and Kenneth Weaver of Lake City; two sisters, Lillie Mae Bowers of Summerville and Belle W. Hudson of Mt. Pleasant; and seven grandchildren, Dana Weaver, Jenna Weaver, Rebecca Weaver and Hannah Weaver, all of Lake City, Caroline Weaver, Garrett Weaver and Joshua Weaver, all of Greensboro, N.C.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M. Friday, March 15, 2002, in the Brockington Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Camp Branch Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery.

James T. Borden, Jr., 74, died on Monday, March 11, 2002 in Claxton, GA. Mr. Borden was a native of Roaton, Honduras and formerly resided in Charleston, SC. He was retired as a Chief Engineer from the Merchant Marines after 50 years service and a Veteran Staff Sgt. of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Johns Island Masonic Lodge. He was predeceased by his parents, James T. and Drusilla E. Borden, his wife, Dorothy Summers Borden and infant daughter, Robin Annette Borden. He was a Catholic. He is survived by three sons, William Lawrence Borden (Beth), of James Island, SC, Garylee Summers Borden of Jacksonville, FL., and John Britton Borden of Charleston, SC; two brothers, Dr. Saxon Delano Borden of Houston, TX and Capt. William Austin Borden of Marathon, FL; and sisters Lynn B. Jones of French Harbor, Honduras Reina Borden, Drusilla Blair, Kay Ferrez, Terry LaBoy and Maxine Cancilla; four grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Ms. Lee was born March 24, 1954 in Andalusia, Alabama, the daughter of James E. Lee and Mary Jo Donahoo Lee. She was a graduate of James Island High School and received a B.S. in Education from Georgia Southern University. She was an elementary school teacher with the Georgia Public School System. She served as an active member of the Altar Guild of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church for ten years.
She is survived by her mother of Charleston, S.C.; 2 sisters: Katherine Lee Friend and her husband Pat of Heath, Tex. and Loris Duke and her husband Sandy of Charleston, S.C.; 3 brothers: Marshall Lee and his wife Leslie of Minneapolis, Minn, Bryan Lee and his wife Robbie of Charleston, S.C. and Douglas Lee of Charleston, S.C.; also several nieces and nephews.

She is survived by one son: Thomas Waldrop Izlar of Charleston, S.C.; one sister: Dorothy W. Baines of Lower New York State; 2 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

He was a graduate of North Charleston High School, class of 1959 and a member of Christ's Sanctified Holy Church, Hanahan, SC. He was the owner/proprietor of Colony Lighting and Appliance Center, Past President of Hanahan Lions Club, a member of Greater Charleston Executives Association, North Charleston Jaycees and the Rotary Club of North Charleston.
Surviving is his wife of Hanahan, SC, two sons, George W. "Dusty" Grooms, III of Summerville, SC, and Jason W. Grooms of Hanahan, SC, a daughter, Amanda Grooms Smith of Lawrenceville, Ga, one step-brother, Walter Mizzel of North Charleston, SC and one step-sister, Margaret Snell of Moncks Corner, SC, two grandchildren, Caroline Ansley Smith and Laurel Elisabeth Smith, both of Lawrenceville, Ga.
