Mrs. Bessie Pearl Land Massey
CHARLOTTE - The funeral for Mrs. Bessie Pearl Land Massey, originally of Chester, was conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21 at Gethsemane Baptist Church in Charlotte. The Rev. John Glenn Gerald III, pastor, officiated and burial followed in York Memorial Park.
Mrs. Massey died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004.
Survivors include a daughter, Mildred Louise Massey of the home; a brother, Willie Land Jr. and his wife, Minnie, of Chester; two sisters, Mary Lewis and her husband, Calvin, and Eva Sarratt and her husband, Robert; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Mr. Harry Alexander McAllister, 81
GREAT FALLS - The funeral for Mr. Harry Alexander McAllister of 46 Poplar St. will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4 at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home. The Rev. Mike Sollers will officiate and burial with military rites will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.
Mr. McAllister, 81, died Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, at Dorn VA Hospital in Columbia.
Born in Providence, N.C. on June 4, 1923, he was a son of the late Joseph McAllister and Mary Morrow McAllister. A member of Evangel Temple Assembly of God, Mr. McAllister attended school in Mecklenburg County and was retired from J.P. Stevens Company. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include a daughter, Sue Morris and her husband, Eddie, of Great Falls; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a sister, the Rev. Jettie Helms of Charlotte.
He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy McElveen McAllister.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, Nov. 3 at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home, 26 Underwood Ave., Great Falls.

Mr. Preston 'Boots' McMurray, 65
BLACKSTOCK - The funeral for Mr. Preston Henry "Boots" McMurray of 3910 Mountain Gap Road will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 11 at Tabernacle Ministries in Great Falls. The Rev. Kenneth Compton will officiate and burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.
Mr. McMurray, 65, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004, at Palmetto Richland Hospital in Columbia.
Born in Fairfield County on April 30, 1939, he was a son of the late Henry McMurray and Emily Blackmon McMurray. A former employee of J.P. Stevens, Mr. McMurray attended school in Fairfield County.
Survivors include his wife, Erlene Moore McMurray; three sons, Kenneth McMurray and Eugene McMurray, both of Blackstock, and James McMurray of Great Falls; a daughter, Cheryl Hopkins of Blackstock; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, James McMurray and Charles McMurray, both of Columbia, and Freddie McMurray of Great Falls; and four sisters, Jessie Mae Mathis and Joanne Kolafu, both of Great Falls, Mary Graham of Surfside, S.C. and Peggy Sims of Winnsboro.
He was predeceased by a son, Ricky McMurray; a brother, Willie "Sam" McMurray; and a granddaughter, Jessica McMurray.

Mr. Grady Lee Fowler, 79
GREAT FALLS - The funeral for Mr. Grady Lee Fowler of 212 St. Michael Ave. was conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 28 at Second Baptist Church. The Rev. Tommy Howell and the Rev. N.J. Neely officiated and burial followed in Greenlawn Cemetery.
Mr. Fowler, 79, died Thursday, March 25, 2004, at Springs Memorial Hospital.
Born in Great Falls on Jan. 11, 1925, he was a son of the late Edgar Fowler and Engie Killian Fowler. A member of Second Baptist Church of Great Falls, Mr. Fowler attended school in Great Falls and was retired from J.P. Stevens Company. A World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Fowler was the recipient of the Purple Heart Medal.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Agnes Young Fowler; a son, Jerry Fowler of Great Falls; a daughter, Lynn Gibson of Blackstock; four grandchildren; and a brother, Ellis Fowler of Indianapolis.

Mrs. Helen Brown Moore, 76
GREAT FALLS - The funeral for Mrs. Helen Brown Moore of 562 Tanglewood Lane in the Pea-Ridge Community was conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 27, at Paradise A.M.E. Zion Church in Great Falls. The Rev. J.E. Long officiated and was assisted by the Rev. Cookie Washington and the Rev. William Hayes. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Moore, 76, died Sunday, March 21, 2004, at Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster.
Born in Hemingway, S.C. on July 17, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Laura Brown.
Mrs. Moore was educated at Chavis High School in Hemingway and was a member of Mount Carmel A.M.E. Church, also located in Hemingway.
She moved to Florida and then to Great Falls in 1960, where she became a member of Paradise A.M.E. Zion Church. Mrs. Moore was employed at Apple Tree Fashion and later Ebert's Sportswear until her health declined in 1996.
She enjoyed fishing, traveling and spending quality time with her family.
Survivors include her husband, Leroy Moore Sr.; six children, Ruthena Marshall and Herbert (Eddie) Brown, both of New Albany, Ind., Jacob Brown, Sidney Jackson and Lorettia Ward, all of Great Falls, and Leroy Moore Jr. of Lawton, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and three sisters, Margaret Staggers of Carolina Beach, N.C., Louise McCrea of Pemberton, N.J. and Pearl Blackwell of Wilmington, N.C.
She was predeceased by a son, Lambert Brown Croslin of Miami, Fla.

Mrs. Mattie Eubanks Wishert, 89
CHESTER - The funeral for Mrs. Mattie Eubanks Wishert of 114 Epworth St. was conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12 at Cool Branch Baptist Church. The Rev. John Epps officiated and burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Wishert, 89, died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2004, at Piedmont Medical Center.
Born in Fairfield County on Feb. 21, 1915, she was a daughter of the late J.E. Eubanks and Mary Taylor Eubanks. A member of Cool Branch Baptist Church, where she formerly taught Sunday school and belonged to the W.M.U. and the choir, Mrs. Wishert graduated from Monticello High School and was retired from Springs Industries' Grace sewing room.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Wishert of Chester.
She was predeceased by her husband, L.D. Wishert Jr.

Mr. White, 84, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004, at Chester County Hospital.
Born in Chester County, he was a son of the late Winbush White and Emma Davis White. A former member of Sweet Hope Baptist Church, Mr. White attended school in Chester County and was a retired cement finisher in Philadelphia.
Survivors include a stepdaughter, Marie Chalk of Baltimore; a sister, Ollie Mae Minter of Carlisle; and his caregiver and nephew, Lucius Minter of Chester.
He was predeceased by his wife, Daisy Chalk White; a son; a daughter; and a sister.

Mrs. Mayfield, 72, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, at Chester Regional Medical Center.
Born in Chester County on June 23, 1932, she was a daughter of the late George Smith and Novie Jane Dawkins Smith. A member of Fairview Baptist Church, after marriage Mrs. Mayfield joined Red Hill Baptist Church and served there as a deaconess, a member of the Pulpit Aid, a former secretary of the Senior Choir, an usher and a choir member. She attended the public schools of Chester County and was employed with Chester County Hospital. Mrs. Mayfield retired from Oakmont Nursing Center in Union as a certified nurse's assistant and was a member of the C.B.&A. Society.
Survivors include four sons, Eugene Mayfield Jr. of Alliquippa, Penn., Alexander Mayfield and his wife, Vernessa, of Chester, George Andrew Mayfield and his wife, Miranda, of Carlisle and Eddie Dean Mayfield of Newport News, Va.; three daughters, Remattie Brown of Spartanburg, Mary J. Mayfield of the home and Robin Johnson and her husband, Peter, of Newport News, Va.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Eugene Mayfield Sr.; three brothers; four sisters; and a son-in-law, George Brown.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 5333 Woods Ferry Road, Carlisle.
The body may be viewed from 9 a.m. until noon today, Friday, at King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St., Chester. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.

PHILADELPHIA - The funeral for Mrs. Bessie Sanders, formerly of Chester, was conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 3 at Second Pilgrim Baptist Church in Philadelphia. The Rev. Karl Benson officiated and the Rev. Sharon L. Campbell-Wilder delivered the eulogy. Burial followed in Mt. Lawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Sanders, 79, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, at Elkins Park Hospital, Einstein Division.
Born in Chester County on Sept. 23, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Charlie Walker and Lena Ware. A member of Gethsemane Baptist Church in Chester, Mrs. Sanders attended school in Chester and was a retired care nurse. She was employed with Mercy Douglas Human Services for over 10 years.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Ware of Chester and Marvin Sanders; three daughters, Phyllis Gordon, Carol Jones and Stephanie Mayweather; two sisters, Captona Collins of Rahway, N.J. and Hattie Bing; three brothers, Lewis Ware and Sam Ware, both of New Jersey, and Harden Walker; and 11 grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, William Sanders; and two daughters, Joyce Lynn and Mamin.

GREAT FALLS - Graveside services for Mrs. Mary Young Tarlton, formerly of Sunset Ave., will be conducted at noon today, Wednesday, Aug. 25 in Greenlawn Cemetery with the Rev. John Paul Sellars officiating.
Mrs. Tarlton, 96, died Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, at Lancaster Convalescent Center in Lancaster.
Born in Chester County on Oct. 30, 1907, she was a daughter of the late John Young and Mary Elizabeth Curry Young. A member of Mount Dearborn Methodist Church of Great Falls, Mrs. Tarlton attended Chester County schools and was the owner and operator of Great Falls Sandwich Shop.
Survivors include a son, Otha H. "Buddy" Tarlton Jr. of Great Falls; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Otha H. Tarlton Sr.; and a daughter, Mabel Wayburn.
