LEE, Estelle
Estelle B. Lee, 80, of N. Charleston, died Monday, March 25, 2002, in a local hospital after an illness.
Born October 26, 1921 in Nash County North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late J.J. and Ira Joyner Boyette. Mrs. Lee was a U.S. Navy veteran of W.W.II. She was known and loved by many in her community. She was predeceased in death by her husband, Edward T. Lee, Sr., and a son Robert E. Lee. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include: daughter, Kitty May Johnston, of Monticello, Georgia; a daughter-in-law, Jerry Lee of N. Charleston; sons, Leonard Lee of Cocoa, Florida, and Edward T. Lee, Jr. of Cushing, Maine; a sister, Ruby Kemp of Zebulon, North Carolina; 15 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Charity of ones choice. The family will hold a private service at a later date.

Mr. Robert Thomas "Tommy" Suggs, 31, died Monday, March 25, 2002.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 29 at Mt. Trolly Freewill Baptist Church, with Rev. Mark Wilcox officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home of Mullins.
Mr. Suggs was born April 23, 1970 in Loris, a son of Lutricia Harper Clouse and Jerry Dale Suggs. Mr. Suggs was a flooring specialist.
Surviving Mr. Suggs are, his children: Robert Eugene Suggs and Cassy Lee Suggs, both of Ridgeville; his mother: Lutricia Harper Clouse of Ridgeville; his stepfather: Russell Clouse of Ridgeville; his father: Jerry Dale Suggs of Goose Creek; 2 brothers: William Suggs of Ladson and Jacob Suggs of Goose Creek; 3 sisters: Lynn Ouellette of Ridgeville, Karen Andrews of Goose Creek and Tara Rice of Goose Creek; and his maternal grandmother: Mildred L. Harper of Nichols.
Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 6 until 9 p.m. at COX-COLLINS FUNERAL HOME of Mullins.
SWOFFORD, Lee
HAMPTON - Mr. Lee Hines Swofford, husband of Barbara "Bobbie" Freeman Swofford, died Tuesday morning at his residence, 1258 Bamberg Highway in Hampton, after an extended illness. He was 72.
Mr. Swofford was born August 4, 1929, in Chesnee, S.C., a son of the late Ralph and Burena Hines Swofford. He was a graduate of Beaufort High School, and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict as a communications specialist. Mr. Swofford retired from Westinghouse in Hampton, in 1990. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Hampton, where he was a former Deacon, R.A. Leader, and member of the Men's Sunday School Class, and the Men's Brotherhood, in which he helped rebuild homes destroyed by hurricanes. He was a former president of the Skeeter Scratchers Camping Club, and was a former chairman of the Booster Club at Patrick Henry Academy. Mr. Swofford was an avid runner, participating in many 5K and 10K runs, and was honored in 1996 to be chosen as an Olympic Torch Bearer for the '96 Olympics in Atlanta.
Surviving, besides his wife of Hampton are: 2 sons: Sam Swofford, and his wife Jenny, of St. Matthews, and Allan Swofford, and his wife Sheri, of Hampton. 1 daughter: Babs S. Stokes, and her husband Jimmy, of Aiken. 1 sister: Euzelia "Zee" Carter, of Beaufort. There are 10 grandchildren: Blake, Terri, Stan, Tucker, Sheldon, and Ellie Swofford, Mary Margaret, Joshua, and Ryan Stokes, and Stacey Black.
Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Hampton, with burial following in the St. Paul Cemetery, with The Rev. Dr. Greg Clements officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home. Mr. Padgett was born March 6, 1910 in Round O, S.C., a son of Ivey Lewis Padgett and Emma Grace Harrison Padgett. He was a graduate of North Charleston High School in 1927 and The University of South Carolina Law School in 1956. He was a past employee of the Charleston Naval Shipyard, R. Harry Morse Real Estate and Insurance Company and was self-employed as an attorney for 34 years. In the formative stages of the City of North Charleston, Mr. Padgett served as a member of the Election Commission and was appointed Municipal Judge in 1973, serving in that capacity until his retirement in 1991.
Mr. Padgett was a 32nd degree Mason, a Shriner, a member of the Travelers Protective Association, Sertoma, Jaycees, Exhausted Rooster, and North Charleston Optimists service clubs. Over the years, Judge Padgett served his community faithfully with the Cooper River Parks and Playground Commission and the Twin Rivers District of the Coastal Carolina Council of Boy Scouts. He was a Trustee of the Cooper River Memorial Library, a member of the Charleston County Board of Adjustment and of the local Board of Directors of the American Red Cross. Mr. Padgett was an active member of Advent Lutheran Church, having served as Vice-Chairman of the Congregation, Superintendent of the Sunday School, President of the Men of the Church, a member of Church Council and the Choir.
He is survived by three sons, C. Harold Padgett of Mechanicsville, Virginia, and Ronald D. Padgett and Stephen M. Padgett, both residing in the Charleston area; a brother, Cecil O. Padgett of Folly Beach; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Rev. Craig Wilson Wyant, 89, of Ravenel, husband of Annie Lucille Fraley Wyant died Monday in a Charleston hospital.

Rev. Wyant was born on September 8, 1912, in High Shoals, N.C., a son of the late Loy Thomas Wyant and Rose Ella Bost Wyant.
He attended schools of North Carolina. Rev. Wyant was called into the ministry in 1935 and was ordained as an elder on October 2, 1947. He served pastorate in Kannapolis, N.C.; Avon Park, Hialeah and Jacksonville, Fla. After his tenure as a pastor, Rev. Wyant traveled extensively along the Eastern United States as an Evangelist, making numerous trips to Jamaica and the West Indies. During his travels he worked as a builder of churches and parsonages in the Nazarene Districts of Tennessee, Fla., and South Carolina. Rev. Wyant retired in 1978, after 35 years of faithful service in the Church of the Nazarene, from the South Carolina District. He was a member of the Summerville Church of the Nazarene.
Surviving are, his wife of 70 years, two sons, Ray W. Wyant of Concord, N.C., Charles K. Wyant of Kissimmee, Fla.; three daughters, Lucille Kirkland of Jacksonville, Fla., Helen F. McClure of Chattanooga, Tenn., Rebecca A. Waltz of Summerville, S.C.; nine grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Kathleen Norris of Belmont, N.C., Dorothy Schrumn of Dallas, N.C.; one brother, Fred Wyant of Belmont, N.C. He was predeceased by one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.

Charles R. Hollingsworth, 58, U.S.N. Retired, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., died March 25, 2002. Memorial service will be held at Memory Chapel, Tuscaloosa, Ala., Thursday, March 28, at 4 p.m. Rev. CLARKE, Edward
Edward W. Clarke, 70, died on the evening of Monday, March 25, 2002, in a local hospital. His memorial service will be at 4 o'clock, Thursday afternoon, in First United Methodist Church, 12 Twenty-First Ave., Isle of Palms. The Committal will be private. Arrangements were made by J. Mr. Clarke was born October 26, 1931, in Buena Vista, Va., a son of Dorothy Wagner Clarke of Front Royal, Va., and the late George Edward Clarke. He served as an army paratrooper during the Korean Conflict and attended Shepherd College in West Virginia. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and was a broker and owner at Beachside Real Estate in Isle of Palms.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Clark is survived by his wife of 44 years, Charlotte Wayland Clarke, his son, Steve Clarke of Isle of Palms, his daughter, Candace Clarke Dulban of Lakeland, Fla., his grandson, Steven Clarke of Isle of Palms, his brother, Richard Clarke of Arizona and his sister, Rachel Grannis of California.

DUNCAN, Charles
Charles L. "Billy" Duncan, 58, known at "The Peanut Man" died suddenly, Sunday, March 24, 2002, at a local hospital. Born February 15, 1944, in Conway, S.C., he was the son of Grover E. and Docia Duncan (nee McDowell). Billy was employed by Doscher Food Store for 22 years. He retired and then went to work at the Air Force Commissary for 13 years. Most recently he enjoyed helping his wife operate the peanut wagon at the Ladson Flea Market. Billy was also a funeral assistant with McAlister-Smith Funeral Home and always warmly greeted families and friends. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife Sarah Mae Duncan (nee Lilly); two sons and a daughter, Grover L. Duncan (Vickie), Summerville and Charles Ray Duncan (Tracie), Moncks Corner; Michelle Shreve (Douglas) Moncks Corner; two sisters, Bonnie Shirah, Raleigh, N.C., and Myrtle Black, Conway, S.C.; five grandsons, Andrew Duncan, Brandon Duncan, Remington Duncan, Dakota Ray Duncan, and Devin Shreve; two step-grandsons, Joel Crisp and Jayson Crisp; and former daughter-in-law, Ellen Duncan Hunt, Goose Creek.
