Edward W. Clarke, 70, husband of Charlotte Wayland Clark died on the evening of Monday, March 25, 2002 in a local hospital. His Memorial Service will be Thursday afternoon, March 28, 2002 in First United Methodist Church, 12 Twenty-first Ave., Isle of Palms at 4:00 o'clock. The Committal will be private. Mr. Clarke was born October 26, 1931 in Buena Vista, Virginia, a son of Dorothy Wagner Clarke of Front Royal, Va. and the late George Edward Clarke. He served as an Army paratrooper during the Korean Conflict and attended Shepherd College in West Virginia. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and was a broker and owner at Beachside Real Estate on Isle of Palms.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Clarke is survived by his wife of 44 years, Charlotte Wayland Clarke, his son, Steve Clarke of Isle of Palms, his daughter, Candace Clarke Dulban of Lakeland, Fla., his grandson, Steven Clarke of Isle of Palms, his brother, Richard Clarke of Arizona and his sister, Rachel Grannis of California.

Mr. Garrett was born December 25, 1926 in Pittsboro, North Carolina, the son of Roy Garrett and Lila Ellis Garrett. He was owner-founder of City Finance, LLC. He served with the U.S. Army during W.W.II and the Korean Conflict. He was an active Board Member of Asbury-St. James United Methodist Church, and member of Asbury Fellowship Class.
He was a member of the Rotary Club of Charleston; a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International; Jr. Chamber of Commerce; Past President for two terms of SC Financial Services Association and Board Member Emeritus.
He is survived by his wife of Charleston; one son, Charles Clayton Garrett and his wife Linda of Charleston; one daughter, Carol Garrett Way of Roswell, Ga.; one sister, Mary Justice of Pittsboro, N.C.; 4 granddaughters, Allison Elaine, Sarah Elizabeth, Ashley Evonne Garrett, all of Charleston and Mary Carol Sottile Way of Roswell, Ga.; one grandson, Charles Sanders of Roswell, Ga. and nieces and nephews.

Edward Joseph Coury, 83, the husband of Mary Ubaldi Coury of Charleston died Wednesday, March 27, 2002 at a local hospital. Mr. Coury was born Friday, May 24, 1918 in Jacksonville, Fla. the son of Joseph and Lilly Courie Coury. Mr. Coury was graduated from Valdosta High School, Birmingham Southern University and attended Harvard Business School. He was the President of Consumer Acceptance and Loan Corporation in Charleston. Mr. Coury was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of W.W.II. He was an Honorary Life member of the Rev. P.N. Lynch, Knights of Columbus, the Palmetto Touchdown Club, the Fellowship Society, Past President of the South Carolina St. Jude Children's Hospital Foundation, a member and Past President of the South Carolina Association of Licensed Lenders and was appointed by the Governor to the South Carolina State Board of Bank Control. Mr. Coury was an avid collector of memorabilia. COOLER, Jr., Harry
Harry Benjamin Cooler, Jr., 85, of Ridgeland, S.C., died Wednesday, March 27, 2002, at his home in Grahamville Community after a long illness.
Mr. Cooler was born August 16, 1916, in Ridgeland, S.C., the son of the late Harry Benjamin Cooler, Sr., and the late Lila Zealy Cooler. He was affiliated with both Chelsea Plantation and Good Hope Plantation in Ridgeland for over 55 years. He was a life long member of Eutaw Baptist Church, Ridgeland, S.C. He was a graduate of Ridgeland High School. He retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Soil Conservation Service as a soil technician for many years, known throughout the state as an avid protector of wildlife and natural resources. He held a life-time commission for the State of S.C., as a game warden. During his tenure at Good Hope Plantation he was a farm manager and then served as Superintendent from 1973 until his retirement in 2001.
Survivors include, his wife of 61 years, Mary Bailey Cooler of Ridgeland, S.C.; two daughters, Sandra C. Billeaud of Okatie, S.C., M. Debra Cooler of Charleston, S.C.; brother, Edward J. Cooler of Ridgeland, S.C.; four sisters, Leona C. Hall of Jacksonville, Fla., Edith C. Bamberg of Charleston, S.C., Nell C. Bailey of Okatie, S.C., and Margaret C. McLin of Walterboro, S.C.; and one granddaughter, Suzanne G. Asker of Bluffton, S.C.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, J. Everett Cooler and G. Lawton Cooler, both of Ridgeland, S.C.; and one sister, Ruby C. Blanchard of Columbia, S.C.

Born August 22, 1923, in Ft. Moultrie, S.C., Mr. Blackman was the son of the late Henry M. and Lillie Mae Periott Blackman. He was a retired Marine Cargo Specialist at the Charleston Army Depot and a member of Park Circle Presbyterian Church. Mr. Blackman was a Navy veteran and served during World War II. He was also past Commander of V.F.W. Post 5091 and past All-American Commander of the V.F.W. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve, Branch #50, Washington 5 A.F.M. and the York Rite Masons.
In addition to his wife, Shirley Joyner Blackman of North Charleston, Mr. Blackman is survived by a daughter, Sherri Blackman Sedberry of Hanahan; two sons, William T. Blackman II of Round-O and Michael M. Blackman of Hanahan; two brothers, M. James Blackman of Charleston and Walter Earl Blackman of N. Augusta, S.C.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Nettles was born in Colleton County, a son of Marie Billingsley Nettles and the late Rev. Edward Nathaniel "Bill" Nettles. He was a retired welder and pipe fitter and was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. He was a nature lover and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved farming and was happy as long as he was outside.
Surviving in addition to his mother of Ruffin, are his wife, Doris Smoak Nettles, three daughters and their husbands, Lynn and Kevin Preveaux of Guyton, Georgia, Kathy and Ricky Barnes of Walterboro, and Carolette and David Jackson of Cottageville, two brothers, Edward E. Nettles of Walterboro and Billy Joe Nettles of Hampton, a sister, Faye Ramsey of Cottageville, and five grandchildren, Allen Preveaux, Steven Preveaux, Joshua Barnes, Rebeka Barnes, and Nicholas Jackson.

Mrs. Rosen was born September 20, 1918 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Sam Bicoff and Rose Barankin Bicoff. After her mother's untimely death, she was raised by her father and stepmother Rebecca Kramer Bicoff.
She received her Associates Degree in 1940 from the University of South Carolina.
She was a member of K.K. Beth Elohim Reform Synagogue; National Council of Jewish Women; past Cub Scout leader and Board Member of the Girl Scout Council; National League of Women Voters; Past President of Charleston Business and Professional Women's Association; active in the Democratic Party; a Docent at Drayton Hall Plantation and she helped settle Russian Jewish immigrants in the Charleston area.
She was a legal secretary and later a statistician with the Charleston Heart Study.
Her interests included travel, crafts, fishing at Folly Beach, bottle collecting and garage sales.
She is survived by three sons, Russell A. Rosen of Charleston, S.C., Dr. Alan H. Rosen of Monterey, California and Baran S. Rosen of New York, New York; 6 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and her sister, Ann Bicoff Jacobson of Buffalo, New York.
