CHESTER - The funeral for Ms. Janet Latoya Jackson of 547 Gage St. will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17 at Gethsemane Baptist Church. The Rev. Dr. Charles Pratt, pastor, will officiate and be assisted by the Rev. E.D. Morrison, the Rev. Robert Bailey, the Rev. Alonzo Gregory, the Rev. S. Jenkins and the Rev. Terry Feaster. Ms. Jackson, 18, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, in Chester.
Born in Chester, she was a daughter of Donzell Jackson and Cathy Sanders Jackson. A member of Gethsemane Baptist Church, Ms. Jackson attended Chester High School and was employed with McDonald's in Richburg.
Survivors include her parents, Donzell Jackson and Cathy Sanders Jackson; a son, Ja'Vonté Lamont Jackson of the home; two brothers, Patrick Jackson and Derrick Jackson, both of Chester; and a sister, Tonya Clawson and her husband, Michael, of Chester.
She was predeceased by her grandparents, John Jackson, Christine J. Jackson and Alberta Sanders.
The family is receiving friends at the residence, 547 Gage St., Chester.

GASTONIA - Memorial services for Mr. William Porter McCarley Jr. of 1310 W. Garrison Blvd. will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20 at Evangel Assembly of God in Gastonia. Burial will be private.
Mr. McCarley, 50, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
Born in Chester on Jan. 14, 1953, he was a son of William Porter McCarley Sr. and Hannah Lyles McCarley.

Mrs. Bertie Hudson Polatty, 92
GREAT FALLS - The funeral for Mrs. Bertie Hudson Polatty, formerly of Chester Avenue, will be conducted at 3 p.m. today, Friday, Jan. 16 at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home. The Rev. Brian Hovis will officiate and burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Polatty, 92, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at the Chester County Nursing Center.
Born in Lancaster County on Oct. 25, 1911, she was a daughter of the late James Adger Hudson and Mabel Lee Hudson. A member of Trinity Baptist Church, Mrs. Polatty attended school in Great Falls and also Rice Business College in Charleston. She was a homemaker and wrote the senior citizens column for the Great Falls Reporter for many years.
Survivors include a number of nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, David William Polatty.

Mrs. Guynell Abrams White, 38
GREAT FALLS - The funeral for Mrs. Guynell Abrams White of 45 Holly St. will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17 at First Mount Zion Baptist Church in Great Falls. The Rev. Michael L. Golden, pastor, will deliver the eulogy and be assisted by Evangelist Diane Bowden, the Rev. Michael Black, the Rev. William Hayes and the Rev. Cookie Washington. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. White, 38, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, at her residence.
Born in Great Falls, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Glossiel Holmes Abrams. A member of First Mount Zion Baptist Church, Mrs. White graduated from Chester High School in 1983. She attended York Technical College and Southern College in Rock Hill and was formerly employed with Black and Decker in Fort Mill.
Survivors include her husband, William White Jr. of the home; a daughter, Precious Abrams of the home; a son, William White III of the home; a brother, Silas Holmes and his wife, Sadie, of Great Falls; and four sisters, Cora Carter and her husband, Elijah, and Margaret Dean and her husband, Kenny, all of Chester, and Helen Abrams and Fannie Mae Brown and her husband, Charlie, all of Great Falls.
The family is receiving friends at the home, 45 Holly Street.
Viewing will be today, Friday, from 1-7 p.m. and Saturday from 9-11 a.m. at Washington Funeral Home in Great Falls.
The body will be placed in the church at noon on Saturday, Jan. 17.

CHESTER - The funeral for Mrs. Mary Turner "Lib" Branch of 2067 Lancaster Hwy. was conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5 at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. The Rev. Sam Warwick officiated and burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Branch, 88, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004, at her residence.
Born in Chester County on Sept. 8, 1915, she was a daughter of the late Isacc Turner and Bessie Jackson Turner. A graduate of Oakley Hall High School, Mrs. Branch was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church and was retired from Springs Industries. She was also the owner and operator of Lib's Flower Shop.
Survivors include a son, Lewis Branch of Chester; two daughters, Joyce B. Bolton of Chester and Linda S. Brooks of Anchorage, Alaska; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Julia Sprouse of Rock Hill and Virginia Etters of Rodman.
She was predeceased by her husband, Neil Cooper Branch.

Mrs. Johnson, 94, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004, at Greenville Memorial Medical Center. She was a daughter of James B. and Sallie M. Phillips of Gaffney.
Survivors include a son, Steve Johnson and his wife, Nancy, of Greenville; and three granddaughters.
She was predeceased by her husband, the Rev. R.O. Johnson of Chester.

BALTIMORE - The funeral for Ms. Elaine Bell Owens of 4214 Mayonne Ave., formerly of Chester, will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. today, Friday, Feb. 6 at Harlem Park Community Church in Baltimore. Burial will also be in Baltimore.
Ms. Owens died Friday, Jan. 30, 2004, at her home.
Survivors include a son, Ryan T. Roberts of Baltimore; her mother, May Bell Coad-Owens of Baltimore; a sister, Michelle L. Owens-Goode of Baltimore; and four grandchildren.

BIRMINGHAM, Mich. - The funeral for Mrs. Maggie Barnes Timms, formerly of 6549 Richburg Road, Great Falls, was conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 31 at Cedar Creek A.M.E. Zion Church. The Rev. Jessie Peay, pastor, officiated and burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Timms, 88, died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2004, in Birmingham, Mich.
Born in Lancaster County on Oct. 17, 1916, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Barnes Sr. and Carrie Meeks Barnes.
She worked in various positions in Detroit until returning home to Great Falls. She was an avid gardener, loved great food and music.
At an early age, Mrs. Timms became a member of Greater New Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Detroit and later became a member of Cedar Creek A.M.E. Zion Church in Lancaster.
Survivors include her husband of 28 years, Robert L. Timms; two daughters, Josey Moore and Carolyn Knechtel; a son, Charles Gladden; eight grandchildren; a sister, Juanita Simpkins; a brother, Joseph Barnes Jr.; and a host of great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Charlie Gladden, whom she married in 1936; a sister, Robbie Young; and two brothers, Pertell "Bo" Barnes and Adam Barnes.

CHESTER - The funeral for Mr. Robert L. "Cab" Cabaniss of 729 Cornwell Road will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 4 at Barron Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Rick Wheeler will officiate and burial will follow in Chester Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Cabaniss, 83, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004, at his residence.
Born in Lockhart on Aug. 3, 1921, he was a son of the late Alvin Cabaniss and Cynthia Quinton Cabaniss. A retired employee of Springs Industries, Mr. Cabaniss was a member of Lockhart Masonic Lodge No. 244.
Survivors include three daughters, Brenda C. Branham and Peggy E. Cabaniss, both of Chester, and Carol C. Gerbers of Blackstock; a brother, Jimmy Cabaniss of Chester; a sister, Eva Burgess of Lockhart; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Mae Lillian Sutherland Cabaniss.

He was a former employee of the Chester County School District.

Mrs. Moser, 84, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, at Piedmont Medical Center.
Born in York County on Oct. 28, 1920, she was a daughter of the late Charles Franklin McGraw and Emma Norman McGraw Sweatt. A member of First Church of the Nazarene, Mrs. Moser attended school in York County and was retired from Springs Industries.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Wayne "Bob" Moser and his wife, Janice, and Jimmy F. Moser and his wife, Annette, all of Chester; a daughter, Claudia M. McDaniel and her husband, Stan "Chip," of Rock Hill; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, the Rev. Claude Odell Moser; and a granddaughter, Angie Adams.
