Funeral services former Summerville resident C.V. Newman, of Palmetto, Fla., were held June 14, 2003 at Kicliter Funeral Home in Palmetto. Burial was in Gillette Cemetery in Palmetto.
Mr. Newman died June 10, 2003 at his residence. He was 82.
Mr. Newman was born in Meridian, Miss. He worked as a garment manufacturer, He moved to Manatee County, Fla. in 2002. He was a Seventh Day Adventist.
Survivors include his wife, Mavis Eloise Newman; two sisters, Dorothy Dooly of Meridian, Miss. And Doris Adams, of Jackson, Miss.

Robert John Eberle
A memorial service for Robert John Eberle, of Summerville, will be held at 2 p.m. June 28, 2003, at Parks Funeral Home Chapel, 130 West 1st North St., Summerville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, 61 Broadway, New York, N.Y., 10006.
Mr. Eberle died June 20, 2003 at a Rock Hill, S.C. hospital. He was 57.
Mr. Eberle was born April 3, 1946 in Queens, NY, a son of Bernard John Eberle and Florence Joan Donohue Eberle. He was an insurance change control specialist for Royal and Sunalliance of Charlotte, N.C.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Kranz Eberle, of Summerville; a son, David Eberle, of San Franciso, CA.; a sister, Barbara Hoyman and her husband.. Scott, of Summerville; a nephew, Richard Seif of Chesapeake, Va.; and niece, Jennifer Seif Roos of South Africa.

Norman Julius Holten
Norman Julius Holten, of Summerville, died June 21, 2003. He was 91. A private memorial service will be held.
Mr. Holten was born on July 11, 1911 in East St. Louis, Ill., a son of Julius A. Holten and Ada Ortgier Holten. He was retired from Mobil Oil Corp. in New York City, N.Y.
Survivors include a son, N. Gary Holten and his wife, Carol, of Florida; two sisters, Louise Reilly of Hawaii and Olivette Frey of Arizona; grandchildren Alison Holten Shephard of Moncks Corner, Bret Bocker Holten of Goose Creek, Arthur H. Dehay Jr. of Moncks Corner and Jessica L. DeHay of Goose Creek; and their mother, Ellen Ann (Lyn) Holten-DeHay, of Summerville; grandsons Jamie Holten and Scott Holten, both of Florida; and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Douglas Holten.

Hazel Crosby
Funeral services for Hazel Virginia Crosby, of Summerville, were held June 23, 2003 at Parks Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Boone Hill United Methodist Church cemetery.
Mrs. Crosby died June 21, 2003. She was 85.
Mrs. Crosby was born on Oct. 1, 1917 in Summerville, a daughter of Allen Sweat and Lizzie Grooms Sweat. She was a homemaker and a member of Boone Hill United Methodist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Joanne Perry, Mary Crosby and Vivian Tumbleston, all of Summerville; three sons, Marion Crosby, Roger Crosby and Keith Crosby, all of Summerville; 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Wilton M. Crosby.

Benjamin Franklin Floyd
Funeral services for Tech Sgt. Benjamin Franklin “Bennie” Floyd, USAF (Ret.), of Hollywood, will be at 4:30 p.m. today in Christ St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Hollywood. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Floyd died Sept. 3, 2002, in a North Charleston hospital. He was 63.
Mr. Floyd was born on April 5, 1939, in Charleston, a son of the late Benjamin Franklin Floyd Sr. and Margaret Mary Sanders Floyd. He was a graduate of St. Paul’s High School and a 20-year U.S. Air Force veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He later worked as a landscape supervisor with Samuel McDonald Inc. He was a member of Christ St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and VFW Post #15042.
Survivors include his wife, Chong Su Lee Floyd, of the home; a daughter, Susan Floyd of Summerville; two sons, Richard Floyd and Benjamin F. Floyd Jr., both of Hollywood; two sisters, Maria F. Middleton and Mary F. Mullinax, both of Hollywood; mother-in-law Myong Park of Hollywood; brother-in-law Jong Tae and his wife, Song Ja Lee and their children, Heather and Grace; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Mildred G. Chastain
Graveside funeral services for Mildred Gunter Chastain, of Charleston, and formerly of Columbia, were Sept. 4, 2002, at Wagener Cemetery in Wagener, S.C. Mrs. Chastain died Sept. 1 at a local hospital. She was 87.
Mrs. Chastain was born on Aug. 31, 1915, in Wagener, a daughter of Lloyd Gunter and Maggie Garvin Gunter. She was a homemaker and member of Trenholm Road United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Rebecca Jackson and her son-in-law, Jimmy Jackson, both of Summerville; and two grandchildren, James G. Jackson and Steven N. Jackson, both of Summerville.
Mrs. Chastain was predeceased by her husband, Paul Gilreath Chastain.

Lou Melton Lisle
Funeral services for Lou Melton Lisle, of Summerville, will be at 11 a.m. today at Parks Funeral Home Chapel today. Burial will be in Summerville Cemetery. Mrs. Lisle died Sept. 4, 2002, at her residence. She was 72.
Mrs. Lisle was born on Jan. 8, 1930, in Spartanburg County, a daughter of Lonnie Melton and Pansy Randolph Melton. She was retired from Raybestos Manhattan and attended Flowertown Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Walden P. Lisle Sr. of Summerville; son, Walden P. Lisle Jr. of Summerville; two daughters, Freida J. Helmirch of Summerville and Patsy Sanders of Raleigh, N.C.; two sisters, Mae Barnwell of Campobello, S.C., and Ruby James of North Charleston; two brothers, J. B. Melton of Roswell, Ga., and Clyde Melton of Inman, S.C.; and five grandchildren.

Iona Gladys Hachey
Iona Gladys Hachey, of Summerville, died Sept. 3, 2002, at her residence. She was 96. Services and burial will be private.
Mrs. Hachey was born on June 17, 1906, in Milo, Maine, a daughter of the late Charles Mayo and Sadie Steadman Mayo. She graduated from schools in Maine. She worked as an assistant dietician with Mount Holyoke College in Springfield, Mass. She was a member of Cathedral of Praise in North Charleston.
Survivors include a son, Stedman W. Plante of Indian Lake Estates, Fla.; two daughters, Judith R. Famorca of Summerville and Phyllis R. Doucette of Kittery, Maine; eight grandchildren, Laura Mallory Stouffer, Valerie Plante Roberson and Mark A. Famorca of Summerville, Steven Plante of New Hampshire, Phillip Doucette of Kittery, Maine, Sharon Doucette Cressey of South Burrick, Maine, and John E. Mallory and Sharon D. Mallory of Port Huron; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Hachey was predeceased by her husbands, William Plante and Herbert J. Hachey, and a son, Courtney J. Plante.

G. Ann Haynie
Fueneral services for G. Ann Haynie, of North Charleston, were Sept. 5, 2002, at Dorchester Memory Gardens, Summerville.
Mrs. Haynie died Sept. 2, 2002, in a North Charleston hospital. She was 59.
Mrs. Haynie was born on Nov. 20, 1942, in Hammond, Ind., a daughter of the late Holbert Finus Ray and Alma Grayson Ray. She was a graduate of Hammond Tech High School in Hammond, Ind. She was a member of Cross Stitch Pals. She was a former bookkeeper for Cities in Schools and the Juvenile Restitution Program.
Survivors include her husband, Adrian O. Haynie, of the home; two daughters, Kimberly Bendt of Ladson and Elizabeth Williamson of Conway; six grandchildren; and a sister, Edna Bleck of Crestline, Ohio.

Kate DuBois Barnes, 49, of Summerville, wife of Raymond L. Barnes Jr., died April 23, 2003, at her residence. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 26, 2003 in James A. Dyal Funeral Home Chapel in Summerville. Burial will be in Dorchester Memory Gardens in Summerville.

Mrs. Barnes was born Feb. 3, 1954, in Albany, N.Y. She was the daughter of Frank and Laurie DuBois of Southern Pines, N.C. She was a graduate of Millbrook High School in Millbrook, N.Y. She served in the U.S. Navy as a Yeoman. She received an associate’s degree in business through Trident Technical College. She was a member of Life Underwriters Association. She was a life underwriter with Life of Georgia for 17 years. She was a member of Northwood Assembly.
She is survived by her parents, Frank and Laurie DuBois of Southern Pines, N.C.; her husband, Raymond L. Barnes Jr. of Summerville; a daughter, Tasha Noel Richardson of Summerville; a son, Joshua David Smith of Summerville; three sisters, Susan DuBois Kozlowski of Falls Village, Conn., Sharie DuBois Schwaikert of Salisburg, Conn., Jessica DuBois Toscano of Drums, Pa.; several nieces; and one nephew.

Vivian Fox Barton, 75, of Summerville, widow of Luther A. Barton, died April 19, 2003, at her residence.

Mrs. Barton was born Sept. 7, 1927, on Younges Island, S.C., the daughter of Oliver Fox Sr. and Ahmetta Parish Fox. She attended Holly Hilly High School and was employed as a bookkeeper with Charleston County for many years.
Surviving are her daughter, Linda and husband David Thompson of Summerville; a son, Steve and wife Connie of Eutauville, S.C.; six grandchildren, Jamie, Jarred and Jason Thompkins, all of Summerville, Stephanie Barton of Virginia, Chris Thompson of North Charleston and Andrew Thompson of North Carolina; seven great grandchildren; a sister, Val Williams of Holly Hill; and a brother, Red Fox of Florida.

Nancy Jean Byriel, 66, of Summerville, widow of Robert Byriel, died April 21, 2003, in a North Charleston hospital.

Mrs. Byriel was born Feb. 15, 1937, in Felton, Ga., the daughter of Velma Stephens Cooper of Dayton, Ohio, and the late James Leslie Cooper. She attended schools in Georgia. She was a homemaker and a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church.
Surviving are her mother of Dayton, Ohio; one son, Robert L. Thomas of Richmond, Va.; one daughter, Valarie E. Morton of Summerville; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Gerald Hermann
Gerald Francis Hermann, 60, of Ridgeville, husband of Susan Wagnon Hermann died April 21, 2003, in a local hospital.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today, April 25, 2003 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Goose Creek. Burial will be private.
Mr. Hermann was born Nov. 24, 1942, in Oklahoma City, Okla., a son of Paul Frederick Hermann and Marjorie Jarvics Hermann. He was a retired Wal-Mart manager. He was also in the food brokerage business and was the head buyer for Wettereau Foods. He was an antique collector and an avid horseman.
His survivors include his wife, Susan Wagnon Hermann of Ridgeville; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul F. Hermann of Goose Creek; his stepchildren, Kevin F. Riley of North Carolina and Rachel Williams of Florida.
