SMEDS, Lois
Lois Reading Smeds, 78, of Roanoke, Va., formerly of Charleston, S.C., passed away April 16, 2002. She was born in Grand Forks N.D. on April 8, 1924, the daughter of the late Robert Elliot and Mable Clarke Reading. She as preceded in death by her daughter, Christy Lynn Smeds, and husband, James Harold Smeds. Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law Jamie S. and Jonathan H. Benedict of Charleston, S.C., Laurie S. and Donald M. Padgett of Roanoke, Va.; grandchildren, Sallie L. Padgett of Baltimore, Md., Jennifer L. Benedict of Charleston, S.C., Laurie B. Benedict of Charleston, S.C., and Geoffrey S. Padgett of Roanoke, Va. Private services will be held for the family in Charleston. BROWN, Earl
MULLINS, S.C. - Mr. Earl Wilbur Brown, 90, died Thursday, April 18, 2002 at Marion County Medical Center after an illness.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, April 20 at Little Bethel Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Red Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery, directed by COX-COLLINS FUNERAL HOME.
Mr. Brown was born August 4, 1911 in Woodside, Ohio, a son of the late Arthur and Mabel Meregeuthaler Brown. Mr. Brown was a retired security guard. Mr. Brown was a Gideon and led devotions at the nursing homes in the Marion County area, having just led a devotion this past Saturday. He was a charter member of the Mullins Clothing Closet and was a volunteer for 10 years at the Marion Baptist Associational office, until the age of 87. Mr. Brown was a member of Little Bethel Baptist Church.
Surviving Mr. Brown are 3 stepdaughters, Gethlean Hammer of Ohio, Betty Jo Jones of Nichols and Vallie Wood of Ohio, 5 step-grandchildren; 7 step-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Brown was predeceased by his wife, Lurlene Rouser Brown and a stepdaughter, Shelby Gean Massey.
Visitation will be held Friday evening from 7 til 9 p.m. at Cox-Collins Funeral Home.
O'BRIEN, Robert
Robert Allen O'Brien, 60, of Isle of Palms, S.C. died Thursday, April 18, 2002 at his residence. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Allen O'Brien are invited to attend the funeral service of the former, Sunday, April 21, 2002 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL at 2:00 o'clock. Entombment will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. Mr. O'Brien was born in Lowell, Mass., a son of Edward N. and Irene O'Brien. He was a retired Auto Wholesaler and a member of Sunrise Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are his wife of Isle of Palms, S.C., mother, Irene O'Brien of Manchester, N.H., three daughters, Theresa Marek of Charleston, S.C., Patricia June of Virginia Beach, Va., Tracey O'Brien of Folly Beach, S.C., granddaughter, Raechell Marek of Charleston, S.C., grandson, Alex Marek of Charleston, S.C., two brothers, Edward O'Brien of Manchester, N.H. and Russell O'Brien of Las Vegas, Nev.

MURDAUGH, Eleanor
SMOAKS - Mrs. Eleanor Maxey Murdaugh, 82, of 13712 Mt. Carmel Highway died Thursday at Colleton Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, at the chapel of the Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Padgett and Rev. Grady Garris officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Murdaugh was born in Colleton County, a daughter of the late Leon Maxey and Elizabeth Smith Maxey. She was a former inspector with Smoaks Manufacturing and a former Magistrate's Clerk for her late husband, Judge C.H. "Jack" Murdaugh. She was a member of Smoaks Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son, Curtis Marshall Murdaugh of St. George, three daughters, Mary Ola McAlhany of Beaufort, Myrtle Bentley of Walterboro, and Judy Axson of Columbia, two sisters, Leona Crosby and Margaret Lindsey, both of Charleston, 11 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was predeceased by two grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m., Saturday, at the BRICE W. HERNDON AND SONS FUNERAL HOME IN WALTERBORO.

LISI, Elsa
Elsa Mae Celli Lisi, 55, died on the morning of Tuesday, April 16, 2002, after a lengthy illness. Private services have been arranged by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., GREENRIDGE ROAD CHAPEL.
Elsa was born in Manhattan, New York, on January 20, 1947, a daughter of Amo Celli and Florence Messing Celli of Brentwood, Long Island, New York. She was the widow of Dominic Lisi and was preceded in death by a grandson, Allen Eugene Peirson, II.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her daughter, Maria Pierson of Summerville, S.C., two sons, Philip Chiuchiolo, Jr., of Hollywood, Fla., and Michael Chiuchiolo of Long Island, N.Y. Three sisters also survive Elsa, Florence White of Brentwood, Long Island, New York, Brenda Hunter of Tucson, Ariz., and Sabrina Corsione of Quoian, Long Island, New York, as well as her granddaughters, Jennifer Chiochiolo and Cara Mae Lisi-Pierson. The family is expecting the birth of a grandson, Daniel James Pierson.
MEYER, Frances
Frances Elizabeth Meyer, 69, of Jamestown, S.C., Died Wednesday, April 17, 2002, at the residence. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Meyer are invited to attend the funeral services of the latter, Saturday, April 20, 2002, in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, at 12 noon. Mrs. Meyer was born July 29, 1932, in Pitt County, N.C., a daughter of Warren B. and Mamie Cox McLawhorn.
Surviving are her husband, Alvin Meyer, two daughters, Constance M. McDaniel of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Kaye M. Eastwood of Wallace, N.C., one son, Donald Gene Moore of Ayden, N.C., three sisters, Madge Lackey and Alice Jean Allday both of North Charleston, S.C., Doris Giannini of Ayden, N.C., two grandchildren.

LEMACKS, Chris
WALTERBORO - Chris G. Lemacks, 24, a carpenter with Ricky Stone Construction Co., died Wednesday from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, at the chapel of the Fred Parker Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Jim Stophel and Rev. Daniel Cooper. Interment will be in Glendale Memorial Cemetery, directed by the Fred Parker Funeral Home.
Mr. Lemacks was born May 8, 1977, in Williams, a son of Sharon Stone Thorson and the late George Ervin Lemacks.
Surviving are, his mother and step-father, Sharon Stone Thorson and Earl Thomas Thorson of Walterboro, his maternal grandparents, Johnny and Eleanor Stanley Stone of Walterboro and his paternal grandparents, Annie Mae Lemacks of Camden and the late Walter Lemacks.
Visitation will be held Friday evening from 6 until 8 p.m., at the FRED PARKER FUNERAL HOME.
BECKHAM, James
James H. "Jimmy" Beckham, 46, of Cross, a department manager with the Berkeley County Maintenance Department, died Wednesday at a local hospital.
The funeral will be 11 a.m., Saturday at RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL. Burial will be in Whispering Pines Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Beckham was born August 13, 1955 at Charleston, S.C., a son of Elliott L. Beckham and Dorothy Vinson Beckham. He was a Baptist.
Surviving are his fiancée, Michelle Clark of Cross; two sons, James F. Beckham and Brian A. Beckham both of Kingsman, Arizona; stepdaughter, Tiffany Clark of Cross; stepson, David Clark of Cross; brother, Donnie Beckham of Summerville; two grandchildren, Shawn Rabon and Will Rabon both of Dorchester; one niece and one nephew.
