Mr. Cooper was born in South Carolina, the son of Milton Cooper and Polly Bolin Cooper. He was a retired salesman with Pearlstine Distributors. He served in the U.S. Navy during W.W.II. He was a life member of Olde Orange Lodge. He was a member of Charleston Rifle Club and the VFW. He was an avid fisherman and gardener.
Surviving are his wife of Charleston, S.C.; one daughter, Vicki Cooper Horres of Folly Beach, S.C.; three sons, Steven Wade Cooper of Ladson, S.C., Kevin Bradley Cooper of Charleston, S.C. and Gregory Allan Cooper of Charleston, S.C.; four brothers, Millard Cooper of Salley, S.C., Norman Cooper of Rockville, S.C., Richard Cooper of Charleston, S.C. and Horace Cooper of Wagner, S.C.; three sisters, Gladys Smith of North, S.C., Blanche Mitchum of Norfolk, Va., and Hilda Johnson of North Charleston, S.C.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

TOPOREK, Irving
Irving L. Toporek, 73, of Charleston, died Monday at his residence. Private services will be held in Beth Elohim Cemetery in Charleston this week. Burial will be directed by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Downtown Chapel.
Mr. Toporek was born on August 31, 1928, in Charleston, a son of Louis Toporek and Edith M. Toporek. Known to many in Charleston as "Tope" or "Topek," he graduated from Riverside Military Academy and the Georgia Institute of Technology. He was a member of the American Legion, Elk Lodge and Charleston Rifle Club. He was a member of Beth Elohim Synagogue.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy J. Toporek, of Charleston, and a daughter, Lisa E. Toporek of New York, N.Y.

MOORE, Carol
Carol Jaffee Moore, 57, died Saturday, April 13, 2002, at home in Virginia Beach, VA.
Born September 15, 1944, in Charleston, S.C., Ms. Moore was the daughter of Rose Lipman Jaffee and the late Meyer Jaffee. She was a graduate of St. Andrews Parish High School and Conede Business School and attended the College of Charleston. She was a tax preparer and a former real estate agent.
She is survived by her mother of Charleston, two daughters, Kreela Moore of Virginia, and Kim M. Varchmin of Florida; one son, Mathew Moore of Virginia; two sisters, Janice J. Goldstein and Beverly J. Finkel of Charleston; one brother, David H. Jaffee of Charleston; 6 nephews, 3 nieces and her beloved companion, Charlie VanDusen of Virginia Beach.
Funeral services will be held graveside on Monday, April 22, 2002, at 2:00 pm at Huguenin Avenue Cemetery.

MILLIGAN, Helen
Helen I. Hartwell Milligan, 95, of York, Pa., died Friday, April 19, 2002 at a local residence. Mrs. Milligan was the daughter of the late Herman R. Hartwell and Edith Luce Hartwell. She was married to the late Vincent H. Milligan. Mrs. Milligan was employed 37 years with the York Engraving Company, York, Pa., which her husband co-founded in 1946. She was a member of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church and the Auxiliary of York Co. Home and Hospital.
She is survived by her son, Terrence H. Milligan of Charleston, S.C., a brother, Marion Heacock of Avon Park, Fla., a sister, Vivian M. Boyer of York, Pa., seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

CARROLL, Nathaniel
Nathaniel "Jack" Jackson Carroll, died Wednesday, April 17, 2002 at a local hospital. Mr. Carroll is the son of the late William Ambrose and Mary C. Brown Carroll. His wife, Marguarite Stump Carroll, also precedes him in death. He was a bookkeeping accountant and attended the Anglican Catholic Church. Mr. Carroll attended the University of Virginia and is a lifetime member the UVA Alumni Association. He was a lifetime member of the Sons of the Confederacy, Thomas Jefferson Society, and Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity.
Two sons, Richard S. Carroll of Plano, Texas, and Thomas W. Carroll of Columbia, S.C., a daughter, Mrs. Patricia Dodson also of Plano, Texas, and four grandchildren survive him. Valerie and Jerry Braddock of Charleston also survive him.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, April 21, 2002 at 3:00 p.m. in the MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, DOWNTOWN CHAPEL. Mr. Julious Gerald Melton, 63, of Camp Ferry Road, Mooresboro, N.C., died Thursday, April 18, 2002, at Rutherford Hospital.
He was a native of Rutherford County, N.C., a son of the late Johnnie and Maebell McCurry Melton. He was retired from Firestone Steel in Riverview, Mich., and Valley Rich Dairy in Asheville and he attended Hicks Grove Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Lovie Lee Painter Melton of the home, two sons, Joel Melton of Shelby and Hylan and wife Cheryl Harris of Goose Creek, S.C.; one daughter, Dr. Renee and husband Paul Smith of Shelby; four sisters, Lillian Campbell and Doris Hamrick both of Charlotte, Frances Bradley of Shelby and Helen Godfrey of Ellenboro; two grandchildren, Kelli Harris and Robert Harris.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, April 21, 2002, at 2 p.m., at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home, with Rev. Raymond Byrd officiating. Burial will be in Fredrick Memorial Garden, Gaffney, S.C.
