HAMMES, Jr., Roman
Roman Burchart Hammes, Jr., 81, of Mt. Pleasant, died Saturday, April 20, 2002. He was born November 11, 1920 in Charleston, S.C. His father was Capt. R.B. Hammes Ret. and his mother was Daily Vincent Martin Hammes.
Burke attended various primary schools throughout the nation and high school in Hendersonville, N.C. He graduated from the Citadel in 1941 and shortly thereafter entered the U.S. Navy and a line officer. He served in various commands during W.W.II, being released as a LT.CDR. in 1946. From 1946 to 1965 he was associated in an executive capacity with four major U.S. textile firms in New York, Chicago and La. In 1965 he returned to Charleston as an entrepreneur and during the next 24 years owned and operated three different companies in the personnel, real estate and construction fields. He was a past member of the Citadel Alumni Club, Kiwanis Club, Hibernian Society, Country Club of Charleston and Snee Farm Country Club. He was a member of Christ Our King Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Paulette Young Hammes, five sons, Roman B. Hammes, III of Apopka, Fla., Robert T. Hammes of Mt. Pleasant, Michael Ingram Touhy andJohn Martin Hammes of Charleston, Michael T. Powers of Mt. Pleasant, three daughters, Marie Townsend and Louise Hammes of Charleston, Anne Hammes-Brown of Mt. Pleasant, a brother, John A. Hammes of Athens, Ga., 23 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

GASSAWAY, Pearl
Pearl M. Gassaway, 81, died Sunday, April 21, 2002, at a hospital in North Charleston, S.C. Born August 13, 1920, in Leeds, Ala., she was the daughter of James Willie Morris and Mary Elizabeth Morris (nee Jackson). Mrs. Gassaway was a homemaker and a member of Midway Baptist Church. Preceded in death by her sister Ruby Bullard, she is survived by her daughter, Jewel Brown, Moncks Corner; three sisters, Jewel Craig, Moncks Corner; Carrie Frierson, Goose Creek; Mary Ellen McMillen, Chesapeake, Va.; brother, Buck Morris, Gadsden, S.C.; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held, Thursday, April 25, 2002, at 3 p.m., in the chapel of MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 100 S. Goose Creek Blvd., (Hwy. 52) Goose Creek. Entombment will follow at Plantation Memorial Gardens, Moncks Corner. The family will receive friends, Wednesday, April 24, 2002, from 7 to 9 p.m., at the funeral home.
WARD, William
William Jackson Ward, Sr., 74, died Saturday April 20, 2002 at a hospital in North Charleston, S.C. He was born March 26, 1928 in Florence, S.C. A veteran, Mr. Ward retired from the U.S. Air Force as a crew chief. He was a Supervisor at S.C. State Ports Authority. He owned and operated Ward's Shoe Repair business for 7 years. He was also a painter with Laurentide. Mr. Ward was a Baptist, and he was a member of Masonic Lodge #401, Scottish Rite and Shriners. His father, the late Kelly Ward preceded him in death; he is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nellie Ward (nee Rountree); son, William Jackson Ward, Jr., Moncks Corner; three daughters, Lena Gail McLaughlin Stout (Ernie Stout), Summerville, Greeta Jean Gowder Burbage, Summerville, S.C., Gwyn Sineath Kinard (Roy Kinard) Walterboro, S.C.; mother, Lena Mae Ward Kiker (nee Langston), Florence, S.C.; two sisters, Gloria Rowell, Florence, S.C., and Kelly Mae Howle, Columbia, S.C.; ten grandchildren including William Ashley Ward; 11 great-grandchildren including Terry McLaughlin; his sidekick dog Pepe and cat Tigger. Born June 2, 1920 in Emanuel County, Georgia, Mr. Joiner was the son of the late Willie H. and Susie Canady Joiner. In addition to being retired military, Mr. Joiner was retired from the Civil Service, the U.S. Department of Labor, Ocean Division, and was a retired Health & Safety Officer with OSHA. He was a member of West Ashley Church of God and a member of the Fleet Reserve Branch #50.
Surviving Mr. Joiner are his son, James B. Joiner of Lake City, Florida, a sister, Bonnie Belding of North Augusta, S.C., and two grandchildren.
SCHRODER, Mable
Entered into eternal rest on the evening of April 21, 2002, Mable Mary Seelig Schroder, widow of William F. Schroder, residence, Charleston, S.C. Mrs. Schroder was born November 23, 1904 in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of William Seelig and Josephine Dillmeier Seelig. She retired as a bookkeeper with West Publishing Company.
She is survived by a daughter, Marilyn Burmeister of Glendale, Arizona; 3 sisters, Lillian Heiss of Williamstown Mass., Carroll Seelig and Miriam Schloeder both of Lake Oswego, Oregon; 7 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and two very dear friends, Ruth Varner and Nancy Jenkins both of Charleston, S.C.

Charleston; a son, Eric Cabiad of Oklahoma City, Okla.; six siblings, Lolita Cabiad of Sacramento, Calif., Shirley Tuten of Ladson, Jun Cabiad, Jr., of N. Sarah Gladden Saunders, 67, of 3525 Legareville Road, Johns Island, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, April 21, 2002. She was born February 28, 1935, to the late James and Florence Bligen Gladden. We will celebrate Sarah's completed life on Wednesday, April 24, 2002, at 2 p.m., at St. James A.M.E. Church, 2592 Bryan's Dairy Road, Johns Island. KELLAHAN, C. Lee
ANDREWS - C. Lee Kellahan, 77, died Sunday, April 21, in the Williamsburg Regional Hospital in Kingstree.
Mr. Kellahan was born October 20, 1924, in the Warsaw Community of Williamsburg County, a son of the late Roscoe Dowie Kellahan and Mrs. Nellie Blanche Cox Kellahan. He was in the logging business for 25 years and then farmed for a number of years.
Surviving are, his wife, Mrs. Esther Mae Fulton Kellahan of Andrews; one son, C. Lee Kellahan, Jr., of Andrews; five daughters, Shirley K. Grant, Pansy K. Morris, Carolyn K. Player, Jackie K. Martin, and Donna K. Piatt, all of Andrews; one sister, Nellie K. Morris of Hanahan and 12 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 4 o'clock, Tuesday afternoon, April 23, in the Happy Home Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Ivey Cemetery. Officiating will be the Rev. Earl Bittle and the Rev. Mike Mills. The family received friends at the funeral home, Monday evening, from 7 until 9 o'clock.

Glenn Duffin Wolfe, 73, of Sellersburg, Indiana, passed away Saturday morning at Clark Memorial Hospital, Jeffersonville, Indiana. He was a native of Crandall, Indiana, and a long time resident of Augusta, Georgia. A retired Army Veteran of 20 years, and the Associate Pastor of Scottsville Christian Church, Floyds Knobs, Indiana. He was preceeded in death by his wife, the former Gloria Jeanette Rappleyea.
Survivors include: two sons; Robert Allen Wolfe of Longwood, Fla., and Glenn Duffin Wolfe Jr. of Mount Pleasant, S.C., one daughter; Joyce Ann Amos of Clarksville, Ind., two sisters; Velma Ruth Morlen of Floyds Knobs, Ind., and Nova Jean Chesnut of Georgetown, Ind., eight grandchildren; Robin M. EUTAWVILLE - Mrs. Rita Hutto Edwins Harris, 51, of 169 Waterfront Dr., Eutawville, wife of Robert E. "Bobby" Harris, died Tuesday at MUSC Hospital in Charleston.

Mrs. Harris was born in St. Matthews, a daughter of Paul L. and Herta Schuster Hutto. She was owner and operator of A New Image in Santee. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Eutawville.
