Florence Parks Johnson, 86, widow of Phillip Johnston, died May 2, 2002 at the Presbyterian Retirement Home.
Graveside services will be held Sunday afternoon, May 5, 2002 at 2:30 o'clock at the Presbyterian Church Cemetery on Edisto Island.
Mrs. Johnston was born in Davidson County, NC, a daughter of the late Thomas Parks and Minnie Ranson Parks. She was a graduate of Lenoir High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She was a very active in the protection of Loggerhead turtles on Edisto Island.
Survivors include three sons; Phillip L. Johnson, Jr. of York, Pa., Bill Johnston of Charleston, SC and Andy Johnston of Chapel Hill, N.C., one brother Bill Parks of San Jose, CA and five grandchildren.

GREENVILLE, N.C. - Mrs. Adele Blackwell Bentley, 82, died Saturday, May 4, 2002, at Cypress Glen Retirement Community.
A funeral service will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m., in the chapel at Cypress Glen. Burial will follow in Pinewood Memorial Park.
Mrs. Bentley, a native of Granville County, had made her home in Greenville, N.C., for the past 53 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Watkins Bentley.
She is survived by, daughters, Janice Hesdorffer and husband, Roger, of Summerville, S.C., and Peggy Christopher and husband, Claude, III, of Greenville, N.C.; grandchildren, Bentley Liebenow and husband, Stephen, of Columbia, S.C., Margaret Palmquist and husband Mark, of Simpsonville, S.C., Claude Christopher, IV, and wife, Mary Catherine of Winterville, N.C., Elizabeth C. Christopher of Raleigh, N.C.; four great-grandchildren, four sisters, and a brother.

Mrs. Metts was born Aug. 27, 1907, in Cross, S.C., a daughter of Eddie D. Myers and Sabrie Williams Myers. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She attended the Lebanon Community School and was the widow of George L. Metts. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary M. Welch.
Surviving are, two daughters, Miriam M. Mitchum of Bethera and Maxine M. Rhode of Moncks Corner; four sons, Durant L. Metts, John W. "Bill" Metts, G. Truman Metts, and J.D. Metts all of Moncks Corner; a brother, E. Erby Myers of Summerville; and 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Ms. Nellie Ruth Watts Wherry of Mt. Pleasant, S.C. died Friday, May 3, 3003 at Charleston Nursing and Rehab Center. Wife of the late James Vernon Wherry, she was born in Clinton, S.C. and was the daughter of J.L.E. and Sophronia Wix Watts. A homemaker, she was a member of Brandon Baptist Church for the past 80 years. Ms. Wherry is survived by a daughter, Kirstene Wherry Rucker of Mount Pleasant, S.C., a granddaughter, Pamela Kirstene Bolin of Ocala, Fla. and two great-granddaughters, Bailee Anne Bolin and Meghan Deanne Bolin. Services will be held Monday, May 6, 2002 at 2 p.m. in the Remembrance Mausoleum Chapel at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Greenville, S.C. The family will receive friends a half-hour prior to the service, beginning at 1:30 p.m. Family members are at their respective homes. CAMDEN, S.C. - Ronald Dean "Chopper" Platt, 54, widower of the late Yvonne Lee Platt, died Wednesday, May 2, 2002. Born in Ravenel, S.C., he was the son of the late James and Addie Lou Fogle Platt. He served in the U.S. Army and was an air craft mechanic at McIntire Air Force Base. He was of Baptist faith.
Surviving are 2 daughters, Denise Ann Platt of Whiteville, N.C. and Janay Platt of Camden; 1 sister, Jimmie Lou Platt of Charleston and 1 brother, Steve Platt of Charleston.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 Tuesday, May 7, 2002 in Live Oak Memorial Gardens in Charleston, S.C.
