Katie Oexner Hartwig, 98, of Charleston, died Friday, May 3, 2002 at a local nursing center.
She was born in Germany and was a longtime Florida resident before moving to Charleston in 1986. Her parents were Edward and Katherine Oexner. She was a retired companion and caretaker and was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church.
Katie was predeceased by husband Fritz Hartwig. She will be sadly missed by two sisters, Elisabeth Heider of Charleston, Lucie Oexner of Germany, two nieces, Catherine Flatley of Charleston, Anna Hacker of Germany, a nephew, George Heider of New Jersey, and several grand-nieces including, Cathy Rowland and Elizabeth Taylor, both of Charleston. NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Helen K. Easter, 90, widow of Lyman F. Easter, of Poinsett Drive, died Friday May 3, 2002 at her residence.
She was born November 27, 1911, in Charleston, S.C. the daughter of the late William and Corinne Kahs Corker.
Mrs. Easter moved to the area from Washington, D.C. in 1965, and was retired from the Federal Government. She was a former employee of the Surf Club and Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church where she was a member.
Surviving is her son, Lyle H. Easter and wife Doris of North Myrtle Beach, four grandchildren, Cheryl, Michelle, Donna, and Dyanna and five great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2002, at Our Lady of the Sea Catholic Church with Father George Moynihan officiating. Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, at the Washington National Cemetery in Suitland, Md.

Robert E. "Rob" Watson, Jr., 28, of Baton Rouge, La., formerly of Pinopolis, S.C., a student at Louisiana State University pursuing his doctorate in Environmental Engineering, died Friday at his residence.
The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Moncks Corner with Dr. Hal West and Rev. Mickey White, officiating. Burial, directed by RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL, will be in St. John's Baptist Church Cemetery, Pinopolis.
Mr. Watson was born September 10, 1973 at Berkeley County, S.C., a son of Robert E. "Butch" Watson, Sr. and Betty Robuck Watson. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Moncks Corner. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina where he played baseball from 1992-1996. He was an avid sportsman.

Goodwyn "Goody" Rhett Simons, 77, of Charleston, died Sunday, May 5, 2002 at his residence.
He was born in Charleston ot Theodore Jervey and Helen Rhett Simons. He was a graduate of the High School of Charleston and attended Clemson University. He served in the United States Navy during WWII. Goody was a member of the Cathedral of St. Luke and St. Paul Church and a past member of the Carolina Yacht Club. He was retired from the Broad St. branch U.S. Post Office and was also a previous manager of the former Yacht Basin in Charleston. He was predeceased by his wife Pauline Snowden Simons in 1997. HINES, Cornelia
Departed this life on the afternoon of May 4, 2002, Mrs. Cornelia Yarbrough Hines, ages 91, of Charleston, S.C., died Saturday, May 4, 2002, at Bishop Gadsden Retirement Community. She was born September 24, 1910, in Erwin, N.C., the daughter of Edwin Search and Cornelia Elliot Yarbrough. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Kennon Hines, IV. She was reared in Henderson and Durham, N.C., and graduated from Duke University in 1931. Married in 1940, she resided in New York City where she was active in community affairs and served as vice president of the Junior League of New York. In 1951, she and her family moved to Lookout Mountain, Tennessee, where she continued working for numerous volunteer organizations, including the Chattanooga Opera Association and the Hunter Museum of Art. In her 50's, she joined the staff of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd and served for many years as the Director of Christian Education, retiring at the age of 80. In 1996, she moved to Charleston, S.C., to be near her daughter, Cornelia Hines Pelzer. At the time of her death, she was active in the community life at Bishop Gadsden and was a communicant of St. Michael's Episcopal Church. She was a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames of America and the Junior League of Charleston. In addition to her daughter, Ms. Pelzer, she is survived by her twin sons, Richard Kennon Hines, V., and Edwin Yarbrough Hines, both of Atlanta, Ga.; her sister, Mary Yarbrough Brinkmeyer of Washington, D.C.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 7, at St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Charleston, S.C. Private interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Macon, Ga. Mr. Ethridge was born March 29, 1935, in Sumter County, a son of Alton Ethridge and Gertrude Mitchum Ethridge. He was a retired tech Sergeant with the U.S. Airforce, where he received a number of commendations, former Lion's Club member, a member of the American Legion, and was a Baptist.
He is predeceased by a son, Gregory Dean Ethridge, and a brother Cecil Ethridge.
Surviving are, his wife, Patricia Barrineau Ethridge of Andrews; a son, Timothy Ethridge of Andrews; a daughter, Julie Ethridge Baylor of Andrews; four brothers, J. Lenard Morris, of Olar, S.C., husband of the late Idalia Morris, died May 5, 2002, 4:30 a.m., at Providence Hospital, Columbia, S.C.
Born March 1, 1926, in Bamberg County, he was the son of the late David Morris and the late Mother Orena Croft Morris. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Olar. He retired from the Kearse Mfg. Plant. He enjoyed fishing and gardening.
