BARTLES, Betty K.
Betty Grace Krempa Bartles, 89, of Charleston, formerly of Shreveport, La., and Atlanta, Ga., and widow of Henry Bartles, died Saturday, May 4, 2002, in Charleston. Mrs. Bartles was born Saturday, May 11, 1912, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of Charles and Eve Krempa. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, St. John's Cathedral Parish in Shreveport, La., and the Catholic Daughters of America. Mrs. Bartles was a homemaker, a nurse and also a translator for refugees after W.W.II. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and singing in her church choir. She was predeceased by a son, the Rev. Charles A. Bartles, S.J. She is survived by her children, Irene B. Longoria and her husband Fred of Shreveport, La., John H. Barltes and his wife Barbara of Atlanta, Ga., and Mary B. Runyon and her husband William, L., Jr., of Charleston, nine grandchildren, Beth Barnes and her husband Stuart, Lee Runyon and his wife Bridget, Chris Runyon and his wife Nicole all of Charleston, Patricia B. Cooper and her husband Jack, Deborah B. Tankersly and her husband Danny, Diane B. Rutledge and her husband Michael, John H. Bartles and his wife Janet all of Atlanta, Ga., Cynthia L. Hagler and her husband, Kevin, Doris L. Jacobs and her husband Tommy both of Shreveport, La.; 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. POORE, Andrew
Andrew James Poore, of Mountain View, Mo., was born July 31, 1963, in Bad Kruz Nach, Germany, and he passed away April 25, 2002, at the age of 38 years.
He was united in marriage to Lorice Moore on June 28, 1986, in Mount Pleasant, S.C.
Andrew is preceded in death by his grandparents.
He is survived by his wife, Lorice Poore of Mountain View, Mo.; his parents, James E. and Bonny JoAn Poore; three brothers, James Poore of Mount Pleasant, S.C., Todd Poore of Sullivans Island, S.C., and Jerry Poore of Folly Beach, S.C.; three sisters, Jenny Stengel of Seabrook Island, S.C., Ellen Muller of Takoma, Wash., and Betty Burris of Isle of Palms, S.C.
Memorial services for Andrew James Poore were held at 1 p.m., Sunday, April 28, 2002, at the DUNCAN FUNERAL CHAPEL IN MOUNTAIN VIEW, with Col. Paul Andrews officiating.
LAWSON, Elizabeth
Elizabeth Ann Middlemas Lawson, of Mount Pleasant, died on her 93rd birthday, on April 20, 2002. The daughter of the late Robert Orr Middlemas and Elizabeth Warren Middlemas, she was born in Clarkesville, Ga., on April 9, 1909. After growing up in Clarkesville, she married Nathan Lawson, Jr., of New Orleans, La., and moved to the West Coast, where she lived and worked for many years. After Mr. Lawson's death in 1973, she moved to Charleston, S.C., to live with her sisters, Janet Middlemas and Theodosia Middlemas Cox. She is survived by her brother, William Hines Middlemas of Johnson City, Tenn., formerly of Charleston, 11 nieces and nephews, 23 great-nieces and nephews and several great-great-nieces and nephews.
A graveside interment service will be held at the Clarkesville Memorial Cemetery in Clarkesville, Ga., at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, May 11. THE STANLEY H. POWELL AND CORNELIUS E. James M. Carroll passed from a long illness on May 5, 2002. He was preceded in death by Julian and Ruby (Bowles) Carroll of Ravenel, and brother Wile of Charleston.
Surviving children are, James and Jack Carroll of Ohio, Judy McQuaid of Ohio, Jennie Granese of Massachusetts, Jeffrey Carroll of Moncks Corner, S.C., 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Razzie "Tampa Red" Smith, Jr., 69, Campanella Avenue, Orlando, passed away, Sunday, May 5, 2002 in Orlando, Fla. He was born on May 25, 1932 in Parrot, Ga. Mr. Smith was a retired Educator for DeSoto County Public Schools and Orange County Public Schools. In addition to being an Educator, Mr. Smith was also the Head Football Coach for Smith Brown High School in Arcadia, Fla. from 1960-1963, Phyllis Wheatley High School in Apopka, Fla. from 1964-1966, and Jones High School from 1971-1977. Smith was an All-SIAC end at South Carolina State in Orangeburg from 1955-59. Mr. Smith was a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Vice President for the Washington Shoes Homeowners association, and a member of the J.P. Piner Amvets Post #30. HESLIN, James
James Joseph Heslin, 86, husband of Marion McKee Heslin, died peacefully at his residence on Monday, May 6, 2002 with his family at his side. Mr. Heslin was born Monday, February 7, 1916 in Leitrium, Ireland the son of Michael and Catherine Cassidy Heslin. He served honorably in the U.S. Army during W.W. II in Central Europe, Normandy, Northern Frances and the Rhineland. Mr. Heslin was the retired manager of the William's Club of New York, a former member of the Elks Club, V.F.W. and an active member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church where he served as an usher for many years. He loved bike riding, walking, poker, gardening, animals and reading. PORT ROYAL - Franklin J. "Chick" Doerr, 77, husband of Louise Sauls Doerr, died Tuesday, May 7, 2002 at his residence.
The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Thursday at Anderson Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday in the Chapel of Anderson Funeral Home, followed by burial in Beaufort National Cemetery, with military honors.
Mr. Doerr was born on March 3, 1925 in Brownsville, Ill., to the late Julius Charles Doerr and Helen P. Pfiester.
Mr. Doerr retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, and served during WWII. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8760 and AMVETS. He also was a member of Port Royal United Methodist Church.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of Port Royal, are a son, Clyde Allen Doerr of Hardeeville; a daughter, Judy L. Smith of Ladson; a sister, Minnie Rose Lawson of Varnville; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by a son, James Franklin "Jimmy" Doerr.

LOCKLAIR, Marie
Mrs. Marie Dennis Locklair, 86, widow of William E. Locklair, died Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at her residence after an illness.
Mrs. Locklair was born in Florence County, a daughter of the late George and Ellen Floyd Dennis. She retired from the American Tobacco Company and was a member of Stone Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include, one daughter, Betty J. (William) Gilliam of North Charleston; one brother, L. C. Dennis of Ladson; three grandchildren, Cassandra (Keith) Shanklin of Columbia; Jeannie (Marlin) Fullerton of Honea Path and William G. (Patty) Gilliam of Goose Creek; and six great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M. Friday, May 10, 2002, in the Brockington Funeral Home Chapel, Lake City, with burial in the Riverside Cemetery, Pamplico.
The family will have visitation from 6:00 -- 8:00 P.M. Thursday evening in the funeral home.

TOOLE, Jr., Max
Max. G. Toole, Jr., of Atlanta, Ga., died at his home on May 4, 2002, of Lung Cancer.
A native of Maryville, Tenn., Max was a 1960 graduate of the Citadel with a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering. He earned his Masters degree in electrical engineering from the University of S.C. in 1963.
Max spent his career in the circuit signaling industry and was most recently affiliated with Medquest, a medical transcription company headquartered in Marlton, N.J. He was also president of Electronic Innovations and invented the "Trans Max" a medical transcription box. At the time of his death, Max was in the process of developing a signaling device for use in medical offices.
Max is survived by his wife, Nancy, of Atlanta, daughter, Amy Hobbs, and son, Gregg Toole of Houston, Texas., and one granddaughter, and two grandsons, also of Houston. Also surviving are his step-mother, Eloise Toole of Charleston and three sisters, Linda Myers of Green Valley, Ariz., Nancy Edlund of Denver, Colo., and Martha Harrison of Ft. Myers, Fla.
Graveside services were held at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery in Houston on May 8, at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
STORZ, Clara
Born still into this world, Clara Alexis Storz, on Friday, May 3, 2002. Our beautiful girl weighed seven pounds, nine ounces and was 20 ½ inches long. She had curly brown hair and blue eyes.
Clara now lives in the hearts of her Mother and Father, Thea and Bill Storz, her big brother and sister, Walker and Samantha Storz, all of Reevesville, S.C., her grandparents, Herbert Weiss of Somerville, Mass., Anne and Wilfred Storz of Hamden, Conn., and her many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
