PAMPLICO, S.C. - Ervin Levan (Chuck) Poston, Sr., 83, died Sunday, May 19, 2002, in a Florence hospital after an illness.
Mr. Poston was born in Pamplico, a son of the late Cully E. Poston and the late Capitola Hanna Poston. He was a retired farmer, a member of the Union Baptist Church, U.S. Army veteran of W.W.II, a graduate of Hannah High School, a member of the Pinewood Hunting Club and the Florence County ASCS Committee.
Surviving are his wife, Arlee Altman Poston of the home; daughter, Cheryl P. Jones of Johnsonville; daughter-in-law, Judy F. Poston of Summerton, S.C.; brother, Bussy J. (Jenny) Poston of Pamplico; five sisters, Annie P. Powell of Pamplico, Beulah P. White of Johnsonville, Edna P. (Paul) Poston of Lake City, S.C., Eloise P. (Howard) Wilson of Blythewood, S.C., and Vonnie P. (Buster) Poston of Thomson, Ga.; three granddaughters, Margaret P. (Jimmy) Carter of Columbia, S.C., Vanessa P. Marie Linder Wright, 81, of Summerville, widow of Stanley Ernest Wright, died Saturday in the Garden Terrace of The Life Center of Charleston.

KUPPENS, Sr., Richard
Richard Alexander ("Dick") Kuppens, Sr., 81, died Thursday May 16, 2002 at a local hospital. He was born in Hartford, Conn. on April 3, 1921, and raised in Needham, Mass. He was a son of Jacob Nicholas Kuppens and Mary Chamberlain Kuppens. He was employed by the United States Civil Service from 1940 until he retired as Head, Nuclear Inspection Division, at the Charleston Naval Shipyard in 1976. He went on to work in Bandar Abbas Iran as a consulting engineer for Stanwick International Co. from 1976 until 1980, and as a quality assurance engineer for Life Cycle Engineering, Inc., until his retirement in 1991. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in Europe as a member of the U.S. Army Air Force, and was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
Surviving him are his loving wife of 58 years, Lillian Perry Kuppens, his children, Richard A. Kuppens of Columbia, S.C., Kristine K. Holmes of Calif., Thomas N. Kuppens of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., and John F. Kuppens of Columbia, S.C., his brothers, Francis Kuppens of Milton, Mass., and Frederick Kuppens of New Hampshire, his grandchildren, Kelly Kuppens Wisherd, Nicole Holmes Mihalas, Richard A. Connie K. Allen, 50, of Ladson, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, May 15, 2002, after a long illness.

Miss Allen was a computer system designer with Johnson & Johnson Management Corporation. She was a member of Northwoods Assembly. She was known for the need to love one another and lend a helping hand to friends and strangers alike. She is the daughter of Ralph H. Allen and Bonnie Grady.
Survivors include her mother, Bonnie Grady, of Huntington Beach, Calif.; her step-mother, Lee Allen of Charleston; brothers, Larry McLaughlin of Orange County, Calif., Mitch Allen of Goose Creek and Clinton Allen of Lexington; several nieces and nephews and family across the United States.

ANDREWS - Lois McCants Wiggins, 82, widow of Grady W. Wiggins, died Friday, April 17, 2002, in a Tuscaloosa, Ala., hospital.
Mrs. Wiggins was born in Andrews on April 13, 1920, a daughter of the late Thomas Albert McCants and Mary Jane Louise Davis McCants. She attended the Georgetown Co. Schools and lived in Andrews all her life. Mrs. Wiggins was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She was the widow of Grady Wilson Wiggins and Thomas Leon Morris.
Surviving are two sons, T. Wayne Morris of Andrews and Grady W. Wiggins, Jr. of Gilbert; three daughters, Mary L. Furches of Homestead, Fla., Virginia Brown of Kingstree, and Elisa W. Smith of Northport, Ala.; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 o'clock Wednesday morning, May 22, 2002, in Trinity United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Steven M. Todd and the Rev. Paul Miles. Burial will follow in Andrews Memorial Cemetery under the direction of the Andrews Memorial Chapel under the direction of the ANDREWS CHAPEL OF MAYER FUNERAL HOME.

Phillip Boyd Smith, 43, an Emmy Award winning television director and producer, died unexpectedly Wednesday, May 15, 2002 evening while visiting the Maryland shores. His funeral service will be 10:00 o'clock Tuesday, May 21, 2002 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MT. PLEASANT CHAPEL. Friends may call Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Phillip was born in Charleston on December 19, 1958 a son of Linda Smart Dodd of Summerville and Melvyn Boyd Smith of Mt. Pleasant. He graduated from Falls Church (Va.) High School in 1976 and attended the College of Charleston and the University of Cincinnati. He began his career in television as a "Coburg Dairy Baby" appearing in commercials with the late WCSC-TV broadcaster Charlie Hall. In 1977, he began his television production career as a stage manager at WKRC-TV in Cincinnati. For the past ten years, he was a director and producer at WJLA-TV, the ABC network affiliate in Washington, D.C. He was a member of the Director's Guild of America and the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS).
In addition to his parents, Phillip is survived by his fiancée, Cheryl J. Walker of Gaithersburg, MD., his step-mother, Seiko Smith, his sisters, Melinda Smith Monk of James Island and Jennifer Smith of Moncks Corner as well as his brother, Todd Boyd Smith, a rising junior at Wando High School in Mt. Pleasant.

FORT WORTH, TEXAS - Demmie "Mose" Mosley, 87, a retired dragline operator, died Tuesday, May 14, 2002, in Benbrook, Texas.
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m., Friday, in Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, at GREENWOOD FUNERAL HOME, Fort Worth, Texas.
Demmie "Mose" Mosley was born Aug. 20, 1914, in Carlton, Ga. He was a resident of Benbrook, Texas for 53 years. "Mose" was a past volunteer for Benbrook Fire Department and past member of the Lions Club. After retiring, he worked as a free lance mechanic with his best friend, Robert Reiser.
"Mose" was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Bennett.
Survivors include, wife, Vivian Mosley; daughter, Carol Edwards of Charleston, S.C.; sons, Demmie Mosley of Amarillo, Texas, Joe Mosley of Casper, Wyo., and Roy Mosley of Fort Worth, Texas; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
STREHLE, Norman
Norman Henry Strehle, Sr., 84, of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., and formally of Bucks County, Pa., died Saturday, May 18, 2002, at a hospital in Charleston, S.C. He was born in Philadelphia, Pa., to Louis C. and Elizabeth Mager Strehle. He was a retired co-owner and operator of Newtown Business Forms, and was previously the controller for Aldan Rubber Co. for over 22 years, both of Pennsylvania. He was a major in the U.S. Army Air Force during W.W.II, serving in the China Burma India Theater as well as the Asian Pacific Theater where he was on the HQ Staff of General Doolittle during the Air Offensive Japan. He was a past member of the Newtown Rotary Club and was very active in Scouting in Langhorne, Pa. Norman will be sadly missed by his wife, Catherine P. Nibling Strehle, two sons, Norman Henry Strehle, Jr., of Dunellen, N.J., Kenneth W. Strehle of Mt. Pleasant, a daughter, Jeanne Quinn of Norfolk, Va., three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
