MOCK, Benjamin
VARNVILLE - Mr. Benjamin Franklin Mock, 75 of 1212 Yemassee Highway in Varnville, died Sunday in the St. Luke Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla. after an extended illness.
Mr. Mock was born in Hampton County, October 3, 1926 a son of the late Eldon Noonan Mock and Florence Mock. He was a retired welder, had served in the U.S. Marine Corp. and was a member of the Pine Level Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Joyce Katherine Thomas Mock of Varnville; three sons, Eugene Mock of Clayton, N.C., Robert and William Mock both of Walterboro; one daughter, Kathy Eadie of Gifford; and two sisters, Blanche Crosby of Summerville and Margie Jarrell of Early Branch. There are 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Mr. Mock was pre-deceased in death by a daughter, Melissa M. Dean.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Pine Level Baptist Church near Grays, with burial in the Hampton Cemetery directed by PEEPLES-RHODEN FUNERAL HOME IN HAMPTON.
Friends may call at the Chapel in Hampton from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, and Wednesday until 2 p.m. when the casket will be placed in the church prior to services.

Alma Wilson Tairney, 91, of Church Street, St. Stephen, S.C., died Monday at her residence.

Mrs. Tairney was born Aug. 11, 1910, in Foreston, S.C., a daughter of Charles Patrick Wilson and Jennie Farmer Wilson. She was the widow of Earl Clifford Tairney, Sr. She was a member of the First Christian Church, St. Stephen.
Surviving are, three daughters, Jennie T. Shealy of St. Stephen, Darlene T. Stephens of Chester, and Mary T. Wilson of Moncks Corner; two sons, Earl C. Tairney, Jr. of St. Stephen and James W. Tairney, Sr. of Bonneau; 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; and her loving caregivers, Dorothy Keller, Mattie Lee Strawn, Wilma Orvin, Hazel Hoff and Leola Haigler.

Sabra Jo Powell Brunson, 61, of Jamestown, S.C., died Monday in a North Charleston hospital.

Mrs. Brusnon was born Feb. 25, 1941, in Mullins, S.C., a daughter of George McCormick Powell and Lizzie Gertrude Boyd Powell. She was a member and church clerk at the Jamestown Baptist Church. She was a board member of the Hell Hole Swamp Festival. She was a member of the Jamestown Rural Fire Department and did a lot of work within her community. She was a graduate of Loris High School.
Surviving are, her husband, Stanley E. Brunson, Sr.; a daughter, Pam Turner of Pickens; two sons, Rusty Brunson of Loris and William Brunson of Jamestown; a sister, Sherry Richardson of Conway; and two grandchildren, C.J. Clark and Madeline Brunson.

GREEN POND - Gene Richard Drayton, 56, died May 17, 2002 in a local Walterboro hospital.

WARREN, Sr., Calvin
HAMPTON - Mr. Calvin Warren, Sr., 78, of 304 Crooked Creek Rd. in Hampton died Tuesday morning in the Medical University of S.C. after an extended illness.
Born Nov. 14, 1923 in Colleton County, he was the son of the late Henry Warren and Ottie Padgett Warren. Mr. Warren was the co-owner of the Red and White Grocery store in Hampton for 36 years, and was a member of the American Legion Post #108 and had served on the Hampton Town Council for 8 years. An Air Force veteran of World War II, he had received many service medals, among them the Distinguished Flying Cross and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 4 Bronze Stars. He was an active member of the Hampton First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita Wooten Warren, of the home in Hampton; two sons, Calvin Warren, Jr., of Summerville, S.C., and Ricky Warren of Hampton; one daughter, Marilyn W. Brindel of North Charleston; 3 brothers, Henry Warren of Conway, S.C., Mack Warren of Port Wentworth, Ga. and Homer Warren of Hampton; 1 sister, Ruby McKenzie of Hampton. There are 5 grandchildren.

PURCELL, Myrle
NEWBERRY - Mrs. Myrle Hill Purcell, of 10 Pool Drive, widow of Keitt Purcell, died May 21, 2002.
Born in Sumter, Mrs. Purcell was a daughter of the late Kenneth Benjamin Hill and Lucille Barnes Hill. She attended Sumter County public schools, Blue Mountain College in Ripley, Miss. and was graduated from Judson's Women's College in Marion, Ala. Prior to her marriage, she was employed as a social worker in Winnsboro, N.C.
Mrs. Purcell was a member of Aveleigh Presbyterian Church for 50 years, where he was a former member of the choir, active in Presbyterian women, Circle No. 2 and was selected as a recipient of the Honorary Lifetime Member of Presbyterian Women. She had a lifelong interest in the preservation of historic properties and spent several years in the meticulous restoration of the Boulware property on S.C. Highway 395, one of the oldest frame homes in Newberry County.
Mrs. Purcell is survived by her daughter, and son-in-law, Cile and Dick Hursey of Charleston; daughter, Julia Myrle Purcell of Columbia; son and daughter-in-law, Trent and Vonnie Purcell of Newberry; two grandchildren, T.K. and Leeann Purcell; two sisters, Mrs. J.W. (Iris) Edens of Sumter, and Mrs. Sam E. (Jennie) Owen of Columbia; and two brothers, Kenneth B. Hill of Camden and F. LeVerne Hill of Sumter.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2002, at Aveleigh Presbyterian Church, with interment to follow in Rosemont Cemetery.

ANDREWS - Rev. Matt Lewis Price, 85, died Monday, May 20, 2002, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 23, 2002, at the Williamsburg Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial will follow in the Andrews Memorial Cemetery, directed by Andrews Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home. Officiating will be Rev. Terry Fowler, Superintendent of South Carolina Pentecostal Holiness Conference, Rev. Ron Causey, Rev. Ashton Feagin, and the Rev. Luford Pope.

Rev. Price was born October 1, 1916, in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Simpson Eugene Price and Leila Coker Price. He was a retired minister of the South Carolina Pentecostal Holiness Conference and also retired from International Paper Company, Georgetown Mill. He was licensed in 1968, ordained in 1970. He pastored, Sampit Rhems and Antioch in Georgetown County, and also pastored Mt. Calvary, Quinby, Wando, and Cordesville, in Berkeley County. He was an Evangelist for a number of years and began his ministry in 1968 and retired in 1983. Rev. Price was a role model in example by putting God first in his life. He also enjoyed gardening, fishing, and was an excellent cook. His family and friends will remember his delicious barbeque with cooking techniques learned from his father and brought to Georgetown County from Sandy Bay in 1938.
He is predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Edwina Caulder Price on December 7, 2001, two grandsons, Gregory Lewis Pope and Jason Matthew Moseley, three brothers, Rudolph J. Price, Henry L. Price and Jessie B. Price, and two sisters, Bessie P. Morrison and Louise P. Kruse.
Surviving are a son, Larry Edward (Pete) Price, and daughter-in-law Judy Avant Price, of Andrews; three daughters, Mary Lewis Price Pope and son-in-law, Rev. Luford Pope, Betty Jean Price Moseley and son-in-law, James Melvin Moseley, all of Georgetown; and Marie Price Wright Casselman of Andrews; a brother, Simpson Eugene Price, II of Andrews; six grandchildren, Philip Lin Pope of Fayetteville, N.C., Lisa Pope Hudson of Georgetown, Larry Edward "Eddie" Price, II of Houston, Tex., Annette Price Freeman Norman William Wright Price, and Russell D. Wright Price, all of Andrews; nine great-grandchildren.

FORK, S.C. - Mr. W. Carlisle Rouse, 83, husband of Veata Page Rouse, died Thursday, May 21, 2002, at Carolina Hospital System in Florence after an illness.

Mr. Rouse was born August 6, 1918, in Dillon County, a son of the late Willis Robert Rouse and the late Maude Miller Rouse. Mr. Rouse was a farmer. He was U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II. Mr. Rouse was a member of Fork Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Adult Men's Sunday School Class.
Surviving Mr. Rouse in addition to his wife of the home are, five sons, Jimmy C. Rouse and his wife Elaine of Marion, Aubrey Rouse and his wife Dianne of Lake View, Clayton Rouse and his wife Linda of Fork, Kenny Rouse and his wife Jean of Fork and Gene Rogers and his wife Betty of Charleston; two daughters, Tammy Floyd and her husband Lamar of Fork and Marian Sanderson, and her husband Hoyt of Mullins; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Clara Henry of Latta and Ethel Lake of Fall River, Mass.
