Emily Fitchett Segars, of Darlington County, died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Magnolia cemetery in Hartsville.
Mrs. Segars was a daughter of Emily Twitty Fitchett and Frank Edward. She was a member of St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church and graduated from Converse College before going on to teach in the Hartsville elementary schools.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Segars Nance of Hartsville; two sons, Dr. Al Grayson of Beaufort, and Kent Segars of Hartsville; a brother, Ed Fitchett Jr., and several grandchildren.

Beutry Riley
CHARLESTON - Beutry M. Riley, 83, of Varnville, died Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, in St. Francis Hospital in Charleston.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today in Young Funeral Home in Yemassee.
Services will be held at noon Saturday in the Wilkerson Baptist Church in Early Branch, followed by burial in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Riley was born Oct. 3, 1920, in Hampton County, a daughter of Mary Riley and William Riley. She attended local public schools and was a member of the Anna Laurel Baptist Church.
Survivors include six nieces and four nephews.

Patricia Nabholz
VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Patricia Kroeger Nabholz, 62, of Hilton Head Island died Aug. 14, 2004, in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Services will be 4 p.m., Saturday at First Presbyterian Church on Hilton Head Island with a private burial in Beaufort Memorial Gardens.
A service will also be held at Ladue Chapel in Ladue, Mo., at 5 p.m. Aug. 31.
Mrs. Nabholz was born Nov. 10, 1941, in New Brunswick, N.J., a daughter of Doris S. Kroeger and Peter T. Kroeger.
She attended Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Va., Rutgers University and graduated from Keane College in New Jersey. She taught middle school in Ohio and Connecticut. She was a member of the Junior League in Savannah.
Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Douglas W. Nabholz of Hilton Head; a daughter, Anne Sager Freund of Brentwood, Mo.; two sons, Douglas Baird Nabholz of Leawood, Kan., and Jeffrey DeWitt Nabholz of St. Louis; a sister, Sarah Briggs of Connecticut; a brother, Peter Nicholas Kroeger of Pennsylvania; and two grandchildren.

Thomazena Cejka-Magnusson
VARNVILLE - Thomazena Dixon Cejka-Magnusson, 58, died Monday, Aug. 16, 2004, in Hampton Regional Hospital in Varnville.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Bethel Baptist Church in Pineland, with burial in the Bethel Baptist Church cemetery.
Mrs. Cejka-Magnusson was born March 7, 1946, in Jasper County, the daughter of the Rev. Dr. T.M. and Dr. Isabel Reuben Dixon.
She earned a bachelor's degree in History from Benedict College, as well as a master's degree in European History from North Texas State University. She went on to teach in various schools, and was also a member of Bethel Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir.
Survivors include her parents, of Garnett; two sisters, Barbara Mitchell of Estill, and Mildred Brown of Garnett; and a brother, Rudolph Dixon of Garnett.

Willie Lee Graham
Willie Lee "Pee Wee" Graham, 55, of Wadmalaw Island, died Monday, Aug. 16, 2004, in Beaufort Memorial Hospital.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Jenkins with burial in the church cemetery.
Mr. Graham was born April 20, 1949, in Beaufort County, a son of Geneva Graham and the late Remus Chisholm.
He was educated in Wadmalaw Island public schools. For 35 years, he was employed by K.W. Zeller's of Hartsville, Ohio. He was also a member of the Jerusalem A.M.E. Church of Wadmalaw Island.
Survivors include his mother, Geneva Chisholm of Wadmalaw Island; a son, Rodney Williams of Fairfax; two sisters, Eunice Wright and Dianne Miles of Seabrook; and two brothers, David Chisholm of Wadmalaw Island and Gabe Frazier of New Jersey.

Peter Burvenich
LONG ISLAND, N.Y. - Peter F. Burvenich, 61, of Long Island, N.Y., father of Peter Burvenich of Beaufort, died Aug. 16, 2004.
Visitation was Aug. 19, 2004 at the Overton Funeral Home on Long Island, followed by a firematic service that was held Aug. 19, and a funeral service. A private cremation ceremony followed.
Mr. Burvenich was a longtime member of the Bay Shore Fire Department.
Survivors include his son; a daughter, Christine Guilfoyle; a brother, Mike Burvenich; and several grandchildren.

Nancy Dorsett
Nancy Gray Dorsett, of Hilton Head Island, died Thursday, Aug. 20, 2004, in Hilton Head Regional Medical Center.
Services will be private. She was born in Jacksonville, Fla., a daughter of Florida McGiffin Gray and Dewitt Talmage Gray.
She was a graduate of Florida State University and was a member of First Presbyterian Church and was active in the Bargain Box for many years.
Survivors include her husband, Clyde Powers Dorsett; a daughter, Nancy Dorsett Treadaway of Hilton Head; a son, C. Powers Dorsett of Charlotte, N.C.; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

BEAUFORT - Harold "Boy" Black, 45 of Dale, died Thursday, August 19 2004 as a result of an accidental drowning in Huspah Creek.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church. Services will be at noon Tuesday at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Big Estate cemetery.
Mr. Black was born July 6, 1959, in Beaufort County, South Carolina, a son of the late Harold Lee Black and Carrie Smalls Francis.
He was educated in Beaufort County public schools and employed by Coastal Contractors, Inc. of Beaufort.

Susan Bell Singleton White, 64, of Lady's Island, died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, in Beaufort Memorial Hospital.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Israelite Baptist Church on Lady's Island, with burial in the Beaufort National cemetery.
Mrs. White was born Feb. 22, 1940, a daughter of Daisy B. Singleton Jones and Theodore Chaplin Sr. She was educated at Robert Smalls High School and served on the usher board and as church secretary for more than 20 years at the Israelite Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by a son, Jonathan White.
Survivors include her mother of Lady's Island; a stepfather, Joe L. White of Lady's Island; a daughter, Linda White Moyd of Lady's Island; six sisters, Laura Robinson and Luetta Legree of St. Helena Island, Mildred Hanes, Francis Middleton and stepsister Mammie Middleton of Lady's Island, and Janie Allen of California; three brothers, Theodore Chaplin of Denmark, Reggie Sumpter of Spartanburg and Benjamin Holmes of Miami, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

SAVANNAH -- Nathaniel "Nate" Reynolds, 60, of Savannah, native of the Eustis Community on Lady's Island, died Monday, Aug. 16, 2004, in Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. today at the W. Leon Sherman Mortuary.
Services will be at noon Monday at the Ebenezr Baptist Church on St. Helena Island, with burial in the Beaufort National cemetery with military honors.
Mr. Reynolds was born Sept. 9, 1944, in the Eustis community on Lady's Island, a son of Mary Spencer and Simon Doctor.
Survivors include his mother of New York City; his father of Savannah; three daughters, Sonja Reynolds, Yolanda Reynolds and Natalie Reynolds of Ladson; a sister, Lisa Major of Ridgeland; two brothers, Herman Spencer of New York City and Danny Doctor of Savannah; and 11 grandchildren.

Wesley Peacock Jr.
Wesley Vernon Peacock Jr., 39, of Burton, died Friday, Aug. 20, 2004, in Beaufort Memorial Hospital.
Services will be at noon Monday at the Faithful Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Burton, with burial in the New Hope cemetery, U.S. 21, Burton.
Mr. Peacock was born June 27, 1965, in Beaufort County, a son of Willie Mae Parnell Peacock and Wesley V. Peacock.
He received his education in the local schools of Beaufort County and was a 1983 graduate of Battery Creek High School. He attended South Carolina State College and the University of South Carolina. He worked for various landscaping companies.
Survivors include his mother of Burton; his father, Wesley V. Peacock of Newton, Texas; and his paternal grandmother, Emmer Clankscales of Newton, Texas.

Gloria Bowers
VARNVILLE -- Gloria Cook Bowers, 68, of Varnville, widow of Charles Frederick Bowers, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004, at her home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today in the Sand Hill cemetery.
Mrs. Bowers was born March 23, 1936, in Hampton County, a daughter of Edna Freeman Cook and Ivan H. Cook.
She was a member of the Hampton County Library Board, Stephen Eilliott chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and the Col. Joseph Glover chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a member of Sand Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Quincy Jones and Russell Jones of Varnville; a stepdaughter, Lisa Bowers Jenkins of Charleston; two stepsons, Michael Bennett of Guyton, Ga., and Frederick W. Bowers of Garden City, Ga.; and four stepgrandchildren.

John S. Halsall III
A memorial service for John Smyrl Halsall III, 68, of Lugoff, will be held Tuesday at noon at El-Bethel Faith Community Church. The Rev. Joe Stines will officiate. The family will receive friends Tuesday 10:30 a.m. to noon prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to the Walter M. Crowe Animal Shelter.
Mr. Halsall died Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011. born in Camden, he was a son of the late John Smyrl and Betty Moore Halsall. He served in the United State Navy and was a Vietnam veteran. He retired from DuPont after 25 years and worked for Kershaw County Public Works for 9 years.
Mr. Halsell was a dedicated volunteer with Lugoff Fire Department where he served as Fire Chief and was an EMT with Kershaw Medical Center for 28 years. He was a member of the Elk's Lodge, VFW, and American Legion. He enjoyed his motorcycle and going to the mountains, but most of all his family, especially his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Becky Wilson Halsall; son, Dwayne R. Halsall of Lugoff; brother, Richard M. Halsall (Linda) of Camden and David Halsall (Anna) of Camden; sisters Sandy Smyrl (William) of Lugoff and Karen Griswold (Mark) of Camden; grandchildren, Cody Halsall and Brett Halsall; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Jane H. Marshall.
Joe Louis Scott
Joe Louis Scott, 69, of Fairfax Drive, Camden, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, September 27, 2011. He was the son of the late David, Sr. and Mamie Boulware Scott and husband of Madeline Carrington Scott.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, October 1, 2011 at 3 p.m. at Saint Matthew Baptist Church, Lugoff, with interment to follow in Mount Calvary Church of God in Christ Church cemetery, Lugoff. Mr. Scott will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. for viewing. The family will receive family and friends at the residence.

Douglas Duskin
Douglas J. Duskin passed away suddenly on January 9, 2012 in Camden, SC. born in Newark, NJ on November 5, 1941 and raised in Washingtonville, NY, he was the son of Diana S. Duskin and the late Stephen J. Duskin. He held a B.Sc. in Geology from Duke University and a M.Sc. in Mineral Deposits from Cornell University.
He was on active duty with the U.S. Navy from 1963-67 serving in destroyers of the U.S. Pacific Fleet and coastal patrol boats in the Mekong Delta. He then served in the Naval Reserves for eleven years and attained the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He enjoyed a 40-year career as a globally renowned exploration geologist with National Lead, Amselco, and Kennecott Exploration Company. Among his principal achievements were the exploration and development of the Ridgeway gold deposit in Ridgeway, SC; the development and production of the Diavik Diamond Mine in Yellowknife, NWT, Canada; early stage exploration leading to the discovery of the Eagle Nickel Mine in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Doug was a member of the Society of Economic Geologists, the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada, and the Institute of Lake Superior Geology. He was also a board member of the Northern Michigan Geologic Repository Association.
An avid pilot and capable sailor, Doug found great pleasure at the controls of his Cessna or at the helm of a sailboat plying the waters anywhere from the Carolina coast to the Caribbean. He relished spending time with family and friends, restoring classic automobiles, and rooting for the Green Bay Packers.
Doug is survived by his mother; his wife, Minna E. Hovinius; his daughter, Kristin V. Duskin-Gadd, her husband, Michael J. Stephens and their daughter; his son, Christopher J. Duskin, his wife Leslie M. Duskin and their three children; sisters, Margaret R. Duskin, Dorothy E. Russell, and Priscilla Duskin and brothers, George H. Duskin, Daniel P. Duskin, and Stephen J. Duskin, II.
Doug will receive a U.S. Navy burial at sea. Donations in his honor may be made to the Northern Michigan Geologic Repository Association at 141 Chippewa, Negaunee MI 49866 or to the Wounded Warrior Project at woundedwarriorproject.org.
