Mrs. Collins died September 1, 2008. born in Mexico City, Mexico, she was a daughter of Macedonio Resendiz Zuniga and the late Ana Salmeron Ruiz. She received her Bachelor of Textile Degree from Instituto Politecnica Nacional College and was an ISO/TS Compliance Officer and Physical Lab Supervisor with Kawashima. She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church where she was a supporter of the Spanish mass and community.
Mrs. Collins was into the latest fashions and enjoyed E-bay sales. She also enjoyed exercising and was into health and fitness. She loved all the family functions in the U.S. and Mexico and the Ballads of Luis Miguel. She was a caring and loving wife, mother and friend.
Surviving are her husband, Gregg Collins; daughter, Eliana Guadalupe Collins; father, Macedonio Resendiz Zuniga; and brother, Mauricio Resendiz Salmeron.

Mrs. Atkinson, wife of the late Walter C. Atkinson, died Monday, September 1, 2008. born in Laurens, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Carlton Snyder and Gladys Moore Tollison.
She enjoyed listening to gospel music, watching the Atlanta Braves games, and cooking.
She is survived her children; Janet (Charles) Mooneyhan of Camden, Phillip Atkinson of Camden, June (Eugene) Holland of Camden, Judy Atkinson of Camden, and Jody (Whitney) Atkinson of Camden; brothers, Robert Snyder, J.C. Tollison, and Earl Tollison; sister, Jean Eddings; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a brother, Jack Snyder and a sister, Doris Catoe.
James Allen Damon

ELGIN - Funeral Mass for James Allen “Pop” Damon, 81, will be celebrated on Friday at 1:00 p.m. at Transfiguration Catholic Church, Blythewood. Final Commendation and Farewell Prayers will be in Memorial Gardens of Columbia. The United States Army will render honors. Jim died Monday, September 1, 2008, after a brief illness. born December 11, 1926 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, he was a son of the late Donald and Helen Damon. He was preceded in death, by his wife, Hildegard, and sisters, Sharon and Judy. Jim graduated from Kokomo High, Kokomo, Indiana, in 1944 and joined the United States Air Force where he served for 4 years. He later joined the United States Army in 1949 and served in the Korean War, where he was cited for saving the lives of several of his fellow soldiers by keeping their position from being overrun. Jim retired from the Army in 1967. After his military retirement Jim was involved in the public and private sector.
Jim is survived by his brother, Michael Damon of Phoenix, Ariz.; loving companions and care givers, Betty and Steve Brogdon of Elgin; children, Stephen Damon of Boston, Mass, Timothy Damon of Baton Rouge, La., Diane Blowers of Columbia, Barbara Mitchell of Saint Petersburg, Fla., Veronica Pace of Lexington and Janet Blume of Elgin,; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Ruiz died August 31, 2008. born in San Jacinto Chilateca, Ocotlan De Morelos Ocotlan, Oaxaca, Mexico, she was a daughter of Florencio Salmeron Concha and Francisca Ruiz Mendoza. She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. In Mexico, she was a Rosary Leader and Catechist. Mrs. Ruiz was also a Lay Minister and Catholic youth counselor in Oaxaca and the state of Mexico.
She enjoyed cooking, was a talented singer, a devoted church member, and a loving grandmother. She was a best friend to many both in the U.S. and Mexico and was extremely humorous and a source of guidance and wisdom.
Surviving are her husband, Macedonio Resendiz Zuniga; son, Mauricio Resendiz Salmeron; her father; a brother and four loving sisters.

Jerry died Saturday August 23, 2008 at his residence. He was a native of Lugoff, South Carolina and lived in Savannah most of his life. Jerry was retired from Kroger on Wilmington Island after 23 years of service. Jerry enjoyed his life to the fullest. He had many friends who will miss him greatly. He was preceded in death by his mother, Tyna Catoe Bowers.
Jerry is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jerrylene Denise King and Phillip King of Sevierville, Tennessee, two grandchildren, Jessica King and Taylor Reece King. He is also survived by his father, Reece Quintin Bowers, Sr., brothers and sisters, Reece Bowers, Jr., Gayle B. White, Grady W. Bowers and his wife, Jan, Bobby Glenn Bowers and his wife, Ann, Randy D. Bowers and his wife, Mandy, also several nephews, one niece, and several great-nephews and great-nieces

Tyler died Saturday, August 23, 2008. born in Columbia, he was a son of Marvin Floyd Narr, Jr. and Joyce Ann Fuller Bihl. He was a junior at Lugoff-Elgin High School where he was a member of the Rugby Team, Football Team, Wrestling Team and Weightlifting Team. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed playing the guitar.
He loved his family and spending time with his friends.
Surviving are his parents, Marty Narr (Georgann Ray) of Columbia and Joyce Ann (Mike) Bihl of Lugoff; brother, Christopher Tucker of Lugoff; sister, Kayla Gainey of Elgin; paternal grandparents, Marvin and Elizabeth Narr of Chapin and Carolyn B. Charles Perry Ewart

Mr. Ewart died Wednesday, August 20, 2008. born in Columbia, he was a son of the late James Knox Ewart Sr. and Myrtle Wingard Ewart. He was a WW II veteran having served in the United States Army and received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He attended Erskine College and is a former President of the Board of Counselors for Erskine College. He also, received the Sydney Algernon Award from Erskine College.
Mr. Ewart retired from DuPont after 31 years where he was a supervisor. He was a member of the James LeRoy Belk American Legion Post 17 and the Christian Community Ministries in Camden. He was a founding member of Morningside Presbyterian Church and received Lay Person of The Year for the Providence Presbytery in 2002. He enjoyed old cars and woodworking.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margie Ewart; children, Charles Perry “Chuck” Ewart and his wife, Jo, of Spartanburg, and Ginger Ewart Guinn and her husband, Frank of Camden; 5 grandchildren, Cameron McMehan, Tripp (Carri) Guinn, Reid Ewart, Lisa (Casey) Wilson, and Mandy (Donald) Gibson; 6 great-grandchildren, West McMehan, Davis & Thomas Wilson, Alex Jeffers, Tripp Minich, and Lillian Guinn. He was predeceased by brothers, James Knox Ewart Jr., and William Cameron Ewart; and sister, Lois Ewart Addison.

Mrs. Branham died Tuesday, August 19, 2008. born in Darlington, she was a daughter of the late John Aaron and Dessie Small Friar. She was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church where she was very actively involved. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and will be greatly missed.
Surviving are her husband of 59 years, Clarence Branham; sons, Earl Branham of Temple, Ga., and Don (Debbie) Branham of Lugoff; daughters, Tammy (Alan) Davis of Columbia, and Tina Branham of Lugoff; sister, Louise Thomas of Lugoff; grandchildren, Cyndi (Joe) Kraudy, Kellie (Tim) Erdossy, JoEllen Katz, David Branham, Kevin (Janet) Branham, Brandi Branham, Alex Davis, and Sara Davis; and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by brothers, Aaron Friar, David Friar, and Joel Friar; and sister, Elizabeth Kelly.
Col. James A Bente

LUGOFF - Col. James A. Bente, United States Army (Ret’d), 78, died Thursday, August 14, 2008. born in Cleveland, Ohio, on July 16, 1930, he was a son of the late Alvin Henry Heinrich Herman Bente and Edna Martha Schierbaum Bente. He received his Masters in Business Administration with the discipline of Comptrollership from Syracuse University.
Col. Bente retired from the United States Army in 1982 after 30 years having served in Vietnam from 1970 – 1971. He received the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal (1 OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (1 OLC), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Bronze Service Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 DVC, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry Medal with Palm.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patricia Louise Ralston Bente. He had three children; four grandchildren; and a cousin, Brian Aring and his wife, Louise of Aiken.
