LUGOFF - Funeral service for Maxine J. Rholetter, 71, will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Lugoff Church of God with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Rev. Tim Shirley will officiate. The family will receive friends Wednesday 6-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home.
Mrs. Rholetter died Tuesday, August 12, 2008. born in Camden, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Irene Kennington Bradley. She was a member of Lugoff Church of God and enjoyed singing and church activities.
Surviving are her husband of 28 years, David Ray Rholetter; daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Ronnie LeGrand of Lugoff; brothers, Jack J. Bradley, Thomas Leonard Bradley, William Glenn Bradley, and Charles Perry Bradley; sisters, Carolyn Maxine Mishoe, Mary Louise Wallace, and Dorithy Jean Haynes; and a grandson, Rusty Jackson of Florence. She was predeceased by a son, Alton Jackson; sister, Betty Rabon; and brother, Robert Bradley.

John Albert Ham III
born: Sunday, August 16, 1942
Died: Tuesday, August 12, 2008
LUGOFF - A Celebration of Life service for John Albert Ham, III, 65, will be held Monday at 4:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. Rev. Donnie Dixon will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. Burial will be held at a later date in Arlington National cemetery. In lieu of flowers, send memorials to The Shepherd Center, 2020 Peachtree Rd. NW, Atlanta, Ga., 30309.
Mr. Ham died Tuesday, August 12, 2008. born in Steeles Tavern, Va., he was a son of Frances Ramsey Ham and the late John A. Ham Jr. He is a Vietnam Veteran who served in the United States Air Force. Mr. Ham retired from EI DuPont and was recently employed with Lowes of Camden. He was a member of the James Leroy Belk American Legion Post 17 and was a former volunteer with the Camden Fire Department.
Surviving are his wife of 25 years, Sharon Harvey Hewins of Lugoff; daughter, Kelly Hewins Alkhatib and her husband, Hassaan Alkhatib of Irmo, of whom John thought of as a son; son, Bryan Hewins of Denver, Colo.; grandsons, Benjamin Alkhatib of Irmo, and Jack Alkhatib of Irmo; mother of Camden; sister, Carolyn (Howard) Johnson, Virginia Beach, Va.; nephew, Jerrell Johnson of Virginia Beach, Va.; niece, Kirstin (Tracy) Balenger of Powder Springs, Ga.; and great nephews, Brett, Nicholas, and Brady.

Edwin Jones

Died: Friday, August 08, 2008
CAMDEN – A gathering of friends to celebrate the life of Edwin Jones, 64, will be held Monday 5-9 p.m. at 596 Pipeline Road, Camden.
Mr. Jones, husband of the late Marlene B. Jones, died Friday, August 8, 2008. born in Bald Knob, Ark., he was a son of the late Raymond Everette and Zelfa May Sammons Jones. He retired from the United States Army and served in Vietnam. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and NASCAR fan.
Surviving are his daughters, Myra LeJeune and her husband, John, and Carolyn Jones; step daughters, Tracy Wood and her husband, Jeff, and Laurie Ellrich and her husband, Patrick; grandchildren, Angelina Allums, Heather LeJeune, Elizabeth LeJeune, John Keith LeJeune II, Jennifer LeJeune, Kimberly Wood, Katelynn Wood, Justin Ellrich, Adam Ellrich, and Taylor Ellrich; and 7 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Edmund Jones.

Betty Marthers
born: Friday, October 27, 1933
Died: Thursday, August 07, 2008
ELGIN - Service for Mable Elizabeth “Betty” Skipper Marthers, 74, will be held Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. The Rev. Jerry Lewis will officiate. The family will receive friend Saturday 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or Palmetto Health Richland Heart Hospital.
Mrs. Marthers died Thursday, August 07, 2008. born in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late Charles Wesley and Elizabeth Campbell Skipper. She loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving are her husband of 38 years, Charles Victor Marthers; sons, Charles Victor (Mary Jo) Marthers of Lugoff, and George W. (Angie) Marthers of Elgin; daughter, Annette “Penny” (Tommy) Anderson of West Columbia; and grandchildren, Charlene Marthers, Denise Marthers, Leslie Anderson, Mitch Anderson, Johnathan Marthers, and Adriana Marthers. She was predeceased by 1 sister and 5 brothers.

Gordon B. Moore Sr.
born: Monday, November 15, 1926
Died: Sunday, August 03, 2008
CAMDEN - A memorial service for Gordon Baker Moore Sr., 81, will be held Wednesday at 10:00 am at Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church. Rev. Sheila Rogers and Rev. David Weaver will officiate. The family will receive friends Tuesday 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Family Life Center at Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association
Mr. Moore died Sunday, August 3, 2008. born in Hartsville, S.C., he was a son of the late Wesley Preston Moore and Ruth Fields Moore King. He served in the Unites States Merchant Marines during WW II. He received his Bachelors of Science Degree form U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and retired from E.I. DuPont de Nemours where he was an Engineer. He later was a consultant for Chem-Tech Corporation in different parts of the world.
Mr. Moore volunteered with the Fine Art Center and was a member of the Golden K. He enjoyed gardening and Stained Glass. He was a member of Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gloria Keith Moore; children, Gordon B. Moore Jr. of Camden, Pamela S. Berg of Gilbert, Ariz., Wendy Ziemke of Camden, and Weslynn Hutto of Elgin; brothers, Pete Moore of Darlington, Heyward Moore of Hartsville, S.C., and Ruchie Moore of Florida; sisters, Miriam Newsome of Hartsville, S.C., and Claudia McKenzie of Hartsville, S.C.; 13 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.

William E. Mangum
born: Monday, December 23, 1929
Died: Sunday, August 03, 2008
BETHUNE - Funeral service with military honors for William Eugene Mangum, 78, will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Timrod Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. David Robinson will officiate. The family will receive friends Tuesday 6-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Kershaw County.
Mr. Mangum, husband of the late Cacilia Hahn Mangum, died Sunday, August 3, 2008. born in Columbia, he was a son of the late William Richard Mangum and Virginia Carolyn Hammond Walchek. He joined the United States Army at the age of 16 where he obtained his high school diploma from the Army Education Center. He was a combat medic LPN. He retired from the Army as a Sergeant First Class. During his tour of duty he served in WW II, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. He received a Bronze Star, the WW II Victory Medal, the Army of Occupation Medal with Germany Clasp, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Service Medal.
He was a member of Timrod Baptist Church where he served as a former deacon. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed coin collecting.
Surviving are children, Kathleen (David) Skinner of Rutherfordton, N.C., Patricia Pierce of Lugoff, Virginia (Harold) Adams of Lugoff, William (Dina) Mangum Jr. of Columbia, Richard (Lorri) Mangum of Seminole, Okla., John (Ginger) Mangum of Bethune, and Sarah (Paul) Odom of Camden; sister, Naomi Moye of Columbia; 23 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by step-parents, Ruby Mangum and Jack Walchek.

D. Steve Beasley
born: Saturday, December 29, 1951
Died: Wednesday, July 30, 2008
CAMDEN - Funeral service for D. Steve Beasley, 56, will be held Saturday at 11 am at First Baptist Church Camden with burial to follow in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens, Columbia. Rev. Bruce Hancock will officiate. The family will receive friends Friday 7 to 9 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. Memorials may be made to the Gideons International.
Mr. Beasley died Wednesday, July 30, 2008. born in Fort Jackson, S.C., he was a son of Frances Boykin Lucas and the late D.L. Beasley. He spent two years in Epworth Children’s Home from Sept 4, 1962 until Sept 6, 1964. He served in the United States Army during Vietnam.
Mr. Beasley worked for the former Colonial Store in Camden as the produce manager and recently worked for Al’s Carwash in West Columbia. He was an avid fisherman and loved NASCAR. He attended First Baptist Church, Camden.
He is survived by his mother, Frances B. Lucas and her husband, Darby of Bishopville; sister, Kathy (Roy) West of Cassatt; brother, Danny (Mary) Beasley of Lexington; nephew, Travis Beasley of Lexington, Joseph “Jody” Beasley of Lexington, and Todd (Mary) West of Lexington; and niece, Tammy W. (Joe) Burns of Spring Valley.

O.D. Brazell
born: Friday, March 12, 1926
Died: Monday, July 28, 2008
CASSATT - Funeral service for O.D. Brazell, 82, will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Hebron Freewill Baptist Church, Cassatt, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Ernest Rabon and Rev. Bill Bishop will officiate. The family will receive friends Friday 6-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. Memorials may be made to Mt. Hebron Freewill Baptist Church or Cassatt Baptist Church.
Mr. Brazell, husband of the late Juanita Twitty Brazell, died Monday, July 28, 2008. born in Winter Haven, Fla., he was a son of the late Thomas Earl and Janie Hammond Brazell. He served in the United States Navy. He retired as a truck driver after 50 years.
Mr. Brazell enjoyed fishing, baseball, stockcar racing, gardening, dancing, and camping.
He is survived by his daughter, Paulette (Mike) Stephens of Bethune; sons, Larry (Joan) Brazell of Cassatt, and Lewis (Audrey) Brazell of Sarasota, Fla.; special friend, Edna Burke; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 1 great great-granddaughter. He was predeceased by a brother, Eugene “Buck” Brazell; sisters, Earline Renew, Louise Worrell, and Lucy Evans.

Rudell G. Boykin
born: Monday, August 26, 1946
Died: Wednesday, July 23, 2008
DALZELL - A graveside service for Rudell G. Boykin, 61, will be held Friday at 3:00 p.m. in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Rev. Tim Shirley and Rev. Trent McLaughlin will officiate. The family will receive friends Thursday 6-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. Memorials may be made to the McLeod Hospice House, P.O. Box 100551, Florence, S.C. 29501-0551.
Mrs. Boykin died Wednesday, July 23, 2008. born in Tellfair County, Ga. she was a daughter of Grover Giddens and the late Gertrude Roberson Giddens. She was a tax technician with Blue Cross Blue Shield. She loved painting, reading, and fishing.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Mitchell L. Boykin; children, Mandi Boykin of Elkridge, Md., Trudy (Mitchell) Branham of Camden, and Mitchette G. Boykin of Dalzell; brothers, Gary Giddens, James Giddens, and David Giddens; sisters, Etheylene Massey, Pauline Cordell, Willene Durden, Vondell Woodard, Betty Martin, Debbie Davis, and Claudie Cordell; grandchildren, Maggie Branham, Sarrah Branham, and Emmalyn Creel. She was predeceased by a daughter, Ginger A. Boykin.

Juanita B. Bowers

Died: Friday, July 18, 2008
CASSATT - Funeral service for Juanita Branham Bowers, 64, will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Gum Springs Holiness Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Bowers, wife of the late Alton W. Bowers, died Friday, July 18, 2008. born in Blackstone, Va., she was the daughter of the late Fletcher and Alma Amy Craft Branham. She retired from Springs Cotton Mill. She was a member of Gum Springs Holiness Church and loved to crochet.
Surviving are her children, Clarence Bowers and his wife, Buffy of Camden, John “Peanut” Bowers of Cassatt, Patricia Lovett and her husband, Jeff of Cassatt, and Mark Bowers and his wife, Dawn of Cassatt; brothers, James Branham and his wife Alma of York, S.C., Bert Branham and his wife, Virginia of N.Y., and C.W. Stevens of Monroe, N.C.; grandchildren, Stephen Bowers, Nicole Wooten, Scott Rafalco, Brittany Bowers, Ashley Bowers, Hanna Bowers, Cody Bowers, Tyler Bowers, Sherry Bowers, Gabriel Bowers, Wayne Rabon, Jessica Lovett, and Heather Lovett; and great granddaughter, Savannah Wooten. She was predeceased by brothers, Bobby, LeeRoy, and Oliver Branham; and sisters, Ruby Price and Mildred Stevens.

Mr. Alley died Friday, June 27, 2008. born in Gastonia, N.C., he was a son of the late Reid and Belvia Scruggs Alley.
Surviving are his daughter, Lisa Hedrick of Lugoff; son, Derrick Terry of Lugoff; brother, Sammy Alley of Fayetteville, N.C.; and grandchildren, Paul Hedrick, Matthew Hedrick, Cheyenne Leopard, and Rachel Terry.
