Mrs. Pace, wife of the late Johnny Albert Pace, died Monday, October 04, 2010. born in Horry County, she was a daughter of the late James Larry and Lula Jane Johnson Hyman. She was a member of the Sumter First Church of God and enjoyed reading and spending time with her family.
Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie Pace and Dale McCaskill of Camden, and Luanne Pace and Jeff Hart of Columbia; sister, Maxine Holmes of Conway; and grandchildren, Dale McCaskill, Jr., Lauren Elizabeth McCaskill, and Caroline Hay Hart. She was predeceased by sisters, Genewood Johnson, Ethel Lee Johnson, Eloise Hughes, Fancy Gore, and Betty Singleton.
Wanda Reynolds Epling

LUGOFF – Funeral service for Wanda Lynn Reynolds Epling, 62, will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Ridgeway Ward, with burial to follow in Centerville cemetery. Mrs. Epling died Saturday, October 2, 2010. born in Winnsboro on April 20, 1948, she was the eldest daughter of the late Carl Langford and Alethia Delores Branham Reynolds. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for 62 years. She held numerous leadership positions within the church including: Relief Society president, Sunday School teacher, Seminary teacher, Musical Director and pianist, and youth volunteer. She enjoyed antiques, vintage jewelry and vintage jewelry shows and was also a professional appraiser. Throughout her life, Wanda made countless cherished friendships.
Wanda began her working career at Skyline Manufacture in Camden. She also worked for the Kershaw County Magistrate, and was a Kershaw County School substitute teacher, and hospice volunteer. Wanda’s most treasured calling was being a loving wife, mother and grandmother and helping those in need.
Surviving are her loving husband whom she married
on October 9, 1964, Howard J. Epling, Sr.; son, Howard Jackson Epling II (Tonia Brown) of Lugoff; daughters, Regina Lynn Epling Grainger (Sean) of Franklinton, N.C., Susan Denise Epling Skenteris (Nick) of Greenville, Olivia Marie Epling Roberts (Bryan) of Charlotte, N.C., and Sandra Jane Epling Bridges (Jonathan) of Clemson; grandchildren, Madelyn Sue Grainger, Meredith Sean Grainger, Miriam Alethia Grainger, Sophia Pearl Skenteris, Basil Nickolaos and Viviane Langford Skenteris (twins), Ryan Jackson Epling, Joseph Andrew Logan Epling, Amelia Marie Roberts, Whitney Lynn Elise Epling, Hunter Allen Bridges, Emma Marie Bridges, James Reid Bridges, and twin granddaughters expected in January 2011; brothers, Carl Langford Reynolds Jr. (Junko) of Lugoff, and Rick Reynolds (Ann) of Lugoff; and sisters, Sandra Reynolds Dove (Jerry) of Lugoff, and Judy Delores Reynolds Hall (Ward) of Lugoff. She was predeceased by twin son and daughter, Glen Allen Epling and Gwen Andrea Epling. The family expresses their heartfelt thanks to all the cherished friends and family members whose prayers helped lift their spirits and special thanks goes to Judy Hall and the entire nursing staff at KershawHealth and Megan and Brooke with KershawHealth Hospice for their loving care.

Mrs. Powers, wife of the late Grover Powers, died Friday, October 1, 2010. born in Spring Hill, S.C. on December 11, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Walter James and Maggie Chewning Belvin.
Surviving are her son, David Godwin (Linda) of Milton Freewater, Ore.; grandchildren, Mike Godwin and Scott Godwin, of Belvue, Wash.; great grandchildren Brittany Godwin of Richland, Wash. and Adam Stewart of Richland, Wash. and Heaven Godwin of Richland, Wash.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her grandson, Mark Godwin; 3 brothers; and 6 sisters.

Mr. Messer died Thursday, September 29, 2010. born in Hazard, Ky., he was a son of Nora Messer. He served in the United States Air Force and retired from the State of South Carolina. He enjoyed fishing and golf.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Bonnie Trimnal Messer; brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Judy Gross of Germantown, Ohio; brother-in-law, Arthur Trimnal; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by son, Michael Messer.

Kenneth died Tuesday, September 28, 2010. born in Columbia, he was the son of Lee Baldwin and the late Judy Marie Bolton Baldwin. He served in the United States Navy and served in Desert Storm. He was a correctional officer with the South Carolina Department of Corrections. He was an avid Gamecock fan.
Surviving are his father of Valdosta, Ga.; grandmother, Dorothy Wells of Ridgeway; and sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Deepak Kumar of North Carolina. He was predeceased by a son, Kyle Michael Baldwin.

Mrs. Brock, wife of the late Rogers Ervin Brock Jr., died Tuesday, September 28, 2010. born in Sumter County, she was the daughter of the late Dainy Dargan and Sudie McElveen Kirby. Mrs. Brock was a member of St. John UMC, the Golden Hearts and Maggie Lee Truesdell Circle. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society and was an avid Bridge player and enjoyed gardening, cooking, and traveling.
Surviving are her son, Roger Dorland Brock of Clemson; sister-in-law, Maxine Funderburk Miles of Bethany, Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Floyd Kirby, Charles Kirby, Ryan Kirby, and Dainy T. Kirby; and sisters, Vide Kirby White and Blanche Kirby Lee.

Rev. Shaffer died Monday, September 27, 2010. born in Minerva, Ohio, he was the son of the late Hobart M. and Charlotte Elizabeth Henry Shaffer. He was a graduate of Cedarville College, Cedarville, Ohio where he received his Bachelors Degree, and from Western Theological Seminary in Pittsburgh, Pa where he received his Masters of Divinity. He retired as a Presbyterian minister having served churches in Pittsburgh, Pa., Towson, Md., Canton, Ohio, Franklin, Ind., Indianapolis, Ind., Muncie, Ind., New Castle, Ind., and Camden, S.C.
Rev. Shaffer was a lifetime member of Kershaw #29 and held a 50 year membership with Ebensburg Lodge #550 in Knox, Pa. He was a member of the Golden Men and enjoyed making stained glass, hunting, fishing and photography.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Dorothy Jean Boarts Shaffer; daughter, Lynn Thompson (Jay) of Rock Hill; sons, Jeffrey Shaffer (Jenny) of Auburn, Ala., Bruce Shaffer of Atlanta, Ga., Douglas Shaffer (Tracy) of Baton Rouge, La.; sisters-in-law, Jean Shaffer of Alliance, Ohio, and Mary Shaffer of Wooster, Ohio; brother-in-law, David Boarts (Cathy) of Lehigh Acres, Fla.; 8 grandchildren; and 1 great granddaughter. He was predeceased by his brothers, R. Joseph Shaffer, Thomas H. Shaffer; and sister, Elaine Grace Telles.
Royal Edwin Cummings, Jr.

LUGOFF –Royal Edwin Cummings, Jr., 97, husband of the late Cora Rogers Cummings, entered into the loving embrace of his Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 19, 2010. born on August 2, 1913, he was the son of the late Dr. Royal Edwin Cummings Sr. and Frances Hyde Cummings.
Mr. Cummings is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Isabel Cummings of Lugoff; and grandchildren, Megan Cummings, Caroline Cummings, and Benjamin Cummings. He was predeceased by a sister, Betty Culver.
Mr. Cummings was a 1938 graduate of Iowa State University where he received his Bachelors Degree in Forestry. He served in the United States Navy as an Aviation Metalsmith Second Class from 1942-1946 having served in WWII.
Mr. Cummings was a member of the South Carolina Civil Air Patrol Camden Wing. He was an avid tennis player and enjoyed snow skiing and surfing. He was an outdoorsman who loved camping at the beach, in Canada and Alaska. He was a member of Lugoff First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Lugoff First Baptist Church. Rev. Greg Sweet and Rev. David Robinson will officiate. The family will receive friends Thursday 5:00 - 6:30 p.m. prior to the service at the church and also following the service. Memorials may be made to Lugoff First Baptist Church Building Fund.
Joseph C. Walters, Sr.

Mr. Walters died Saturday, September 18, 2010. bornin Bishopville, he was a son of the late Rubin Wesley and Eva Orilla Huggins Walters. He retired from SJ Chevrolet and was a member of Lugoff Church of God.
Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Fannie McCaskill Walters; son, Joseph C. Walters, Jr. (TyAnn) of Lugoff; daughters, Joan Velez (Poncho) of Lancaster, Delores Morris (David) of Patrick, and Shelley Tennant (Marvin) of Lugoff; 9 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 4 great great- grandchildren.
