Marion Maurice Grubbs
Marion Maurice Grubbs, 77, died Nov. 11, 2009.
Mr. Grubbs was born Oct. 11, 1932 in Barnwell County. He was the son of the late Dillon and Annie Lou Baxley Grubbs. He was a retired mechanic and a minister.
Graveside service was held Nov. 14 in the Lighthouse Gospel Mission cemetery with the Rev. Ricky Creel officiating. Mole Funeral Home of Barnwell was in charge of the arrangements. He was predeceased by his first wife, Dorothy Williams Grubbs; his brothers, Bill Grubbs and Marvin Grubbs.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Pinkerman Grubbs of Barnwell; two brothers, Jimmy Grubbs of Blackville and Gerald Grubbs of Barnwell.
Louise Thomas Dickson
Louise Thomas Dickson, 72, of Daytona Beach, Fla., died Nov. 7, 2009 at the Halifax Hospital in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Funeral services were held Nov. 14 at Revelation Ministries, Fairfax with burial in the Miller Swamp Baptist Church cemetery. Allendale Community Funeral Home of Allendale was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Dickson was born Nov. 9, 1937 in Sycamore. She was the daughter of the late Luther and Monzell Thomas.
Blanche Lunette Redmond Ellis
Blanche Lunette "Net" Redmond Ellis, 70, of Blackville, died Nov, 8, 2009.
Funeral service was held Nov. 11 at Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston. Burial was in Ashleigh Baptist Church cemetery with Eastern Star rites accorded.

Myrl Deloris Still
Myrl Deloris Still, 86, died Nov. 2, 2009 at the Aiken Regional Hospital.

Eve Sanders Wright
Eve Sanders "Mubba" Wright, 92, of Barnwell, died Nov. 7, 2009.
Funeral service was held today, Nov. 11 at Union United Methodist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Martin Funeral Home of Allendale was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Wright was the daughter of the late George Cave and Hassie Allen Sanders.
Gregory Plunkett
Gregory Plunkett, 52, of Barnwell, died Oct. 23, 2009 at the Providence Hospital in Columbia.
Funeral service was held Oct. 29 at the Guinyard and Son's Funeral Home chapel, Barnwell. Burial was in the Hope Memorial Park, Barnwell. Guinyard and Son's Funeral Home of Barnwell was in charge of the arrangements.
Herbert LeGrande Betsill
Herbert LeGrande Betsill, Wiggins, Miss., died Dec. 25, 2008 at his residence.
Funeral service was held Jan. 3, 2009 at Barnwell Presbyterian Church in Barnwell with burial at Reedy Branch cemetery in Barnwell. Mole Funeral Home of Barnwell was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Betsill was born on Aug. 27, 1915 in Union. He was the son of the late David Shelton and Mary Moore Betsill. He worked with the South Carolina Highway Department in Columbia. In 1942 he began his career in civil service as an Engineer with the United States Navy Yard in Charleston. In 1956, his career turned to aerospace engineering when he moved to Huntsville, Alabama. He was one of the first aerospace engineers in the early years of the space program in Huntsville. He retired from NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville in 1975. He was predeceased by a brother, James Lawrence Betsill; a sister, Kathleen Betsill Culler, and three infant siblings.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Gladys Black Betsill of Wiggins, Miss.; one daughter, Rosemary Betsill (David) Raines and two granddaughters.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to St. Marks Episcopal Church, 11322 East Taylor Road, Gulfport, MS.
Beatrice Frank-Price
Beatrice Frank-Price, 94, of Barnwell, died Dec. 29, 2008 at the Allendale County Hospital.
Funeral service was held Jan. 3, 2009 at St. Mary Baptist Church with the Rev. Nathaniel Odom and Evangelist Willie E. Harris officiating. Burial was in the Union United Methodist Church cemetery. Guinyard and Son's Funeral Home of Barnwell was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Frank-Price was the daughter of the late Richard and Carrie Scott Bush.
Survivors include two sons, Wade (Mary) Frank Sr. of Barnwell and David Frank of the home; one daughter, Jessie (Major) Champion of Bronx, N. Y.; one brother, Robert (Vernell) Bush of Martin; one sister, Frances Scott of St. Petersburg, Fla.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Maurice Anthony Clark-Ray
Maurice Anthony Clark-Ray, 23, of Barnwell, died Dec. 17, 2008 in Winston-Salem, N. C.
Memorial service will be held Jan. 3, 2009 at Greater Faith Church, 179 Calhoun St., Barnwell with Apostle Belton Williams officiating. Burial will be held out of state.
Mr. Clark-Ray was born May 2, 1985 in Queens, N. Y. He was the son of Michael Ray and Maureen Ray-Barker. He was baptized at an early age in Winston-Salem, N. C. He attended Barnwell County public schools and graduated in June 2003 from Barnwell High School.
Survivors include his mother, Maureen (Jerome) Ray-Barker of Columbia; father, Michael (Camaro) Ray of Winston-Salem, N. C.; two brothers, Marcus Ray of Charlotte, N. C. and Michael Ray Jr. of Columbia; grandparents, Ursula Clarke of Barnwell, Ronald Clarke of Florida, John (Dorothy) Ray of Winston-Salem, N. C., Clovis Nurse of Augusta, Ga., Joise Barker of Barnwell and Penny Rice of Winston-Salem, N.C.; stepfather, Danny Parler of Denmark; step sister/brothers, Danielle Johnson, LaKeya Sanders, Foley Parler, Danny Parler Jr. of Denmark, LaKeisha Tyler of Hawaii, Terry Rice and Michael Young of Winston-Salem, N.C.; five uncles; three aunts and a host of cousins, relatives and friends.
Ellen Bush Jenkins
Ellen Bush Jenkins, 76, of Barnwell, died Dec. 29, 2008.
Graveside service was held Jan. 2, 2009 at the Kline cemetery, with the Rev. Posey Belcher officiating. Mole Funeral Home of Barnwell was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Jenkins was the only child of Perry Buckingham and Mary Foreman Bush. She was the wife of the late William Green Jenkins for 54 years. She was an editor for The People-Sentinel and worked for the newspaper from 1983 to 1988. She was named editor in 1986. Her roles on the stage of Barnwell's Circle Theatre and her knowledge of the history of Barnwell County are legendary. Her favorite role was that as head librarian of the Barnwell County Library before her retirement in 2005. She was a member of the Holy Apostles Episcopal Church. She was a former member of State Park Supper Club, Cherokee Garden Club, Wildwood Garden Club and The Winton Assembly.
Survivors include her children William Green (Ann Marie) Jenkins Jr., St. Julien Bush (Teresa) Jenkins, Perry Manly (Carey) Jenkins, Kimball Jenkins (Michael) Davis and Ellen Dunbar Jenkins, and 10 grandchildren.
Alease Myers Boynton
Alease Myers Boynton, 87, of Allendale, died April 2, 2009 at the Allendale County Hospital, Fairfax.
Funeral service was held April 7 at Miller Swamp Baptist Church with burial in the Hoover cemetery. Cave Funeral Services, Inc. was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Boynton was the daughter of the late Simmie and Maggie Ayers Myers. She was a member of Miller Swamp Baptist Church, the usher board and the missionary society and a member of Fidelity Chapter No. 40 OES and a retired school teacher of the Allendale County Schools.
Survivors include her husband, Lucious "Luke" Boynton and one brother, Deacon Talmadge Myers.
Roberta "Sis" Walker Brown
Roberta "Sis" Walker Brown, 49, of Blackville, died April 2, 2009 as a result of injuries sustained from an automobile accident.
Funeral service was held April 8 at Frost Branch Baptist Church, Elko, with the Revs. Joseph Williams and Steven Berry and Minister Joseph Jackson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Green's Funeral Home of Blackville was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Brown was born Sept. 13, 1959 in Barnwell County. She was the daughter of Eddie Mayes Sr. and the late Ella Mae Walker Mayes. She was a member of Frost Branch Baptist Church and dedicated her time to the Pastor's Aide committee and assisted with the development of the JBW Youth Choir. She was married
to Johnny Brown Sr.. She was predeceased by her brother, , Cleve Mayes; a father-in-law, David Brown Sr. and brothers-in-law, the Rev. David Brown and Mark Brown.
Survivors include her husband of 29 years, Johnny Brown Sr. of the home; two sons, Johnnie (Princess) Brown Jr. and Marcus Lamar Brown, both of Blackville; two daughters, Lakisha (William) Brown-Hammonds of Winder, Ga. and Latisha (Tremaine Jackson) Brown of Blackville; her father of Blackville; her mother-in-law, Beauleh Mae Brown of Blackville; three brothers, Eddie (Annie) Mayes of Denmark, Harry (Rutha Mae) Mayes of Blackville and Willie Mayes of Ft. Pierce, Fla.; two sisters, Barbara (Abadine) Mayes and Mildred Madelene (Demerius) Mays, both of Blackville and seven grandchildren.
William Henry Chaney
William Henry Chaney, 62, of Allendale, died March 30, 2009 at the Allendale County Hospital, Fairfax.
Funeral service was held April 6 at Faith in Prayer Ministries, Fairfax with burial in the Zion Branch cemetery. Cave Funeral Services, Inc. was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Chaney was the son of the late Isreal and Nancy Benton Chaney.
Survivors include his siblings, Sarah Brant, Dorothy Paul, Johnnie Mae Chaney, Evelyn Jenkins, Moses, Thomas and James Chaney.
Aelise Klintworth Hughes
Aelise Klintworth Hughes, 87, died April 3, 2009 at the Barnwell County Nursing Home.
Graveside service was held on April 8 in the Barnwell County Memory Gardens cemetery on Reynolds Road with the Revs. Joey McDonald and Larry Hutto officiating. Mole Funeral Home of Barnwell was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Hughes was born Dec. 23, 1921 in Berkley County. She was the daughter of the late John and Olive Keller Klintworth. She was first married
to the late Theodore Blake. She was the widow of Cornell Malcolm Hughes. She was a retired secretary with Burlington Industries. She was a member of the Barnwell United Methodist Church, the Foster Lewis Sunday School Class and the Susannah Wesley Circle. She was predeceased by a brother, J.G. Klintworth and a sister, Tinye K. Hunt.
Survivors include two daughters, Connie (Jerry ) Earney of Camak, Ga. and Elizabeth (Greg) Dyches of Barnwell; two grand and two great-grandchildren.
