Robert "Bob" James Rea
Robert "Bob" James Rea, Jr., 71, of Williston, died April 02, 2009.
A memorial gathering was held April 5 at the Williston cemetery. Folk Funeral Home of Williston was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Rea was born in Winchester, Va. He was the son of the late Robert James Rea and Fannie K. Smith Rea, Sr. He was in the trucking industry having retired with as Director of Maintenance with Bunch Transport, Charleston and Teamster Member of Local #38 in VA. He was an Army Veteran having served during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion in Goose Creek, S.C.
He was of the Lutheran faith; he loved blue grass and gospel music.
Survivors include Caroline Jimmerson Sharpe Rea of the home and a sister Jane Rea Bohlander of Annapolis, MD and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Rea.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations may be sent to The Williston cemetery, P. O. Box 367, Williston, SC 29853.
Ulysses Berry Still
Ulysses Berry Still, 89, of Barnwell, died March 30, 2009 at his residence.
Funeral service was held April 2 at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Stephen Burnette, the Revs. Posey Belcher, Earl Jackson and Romie Martin officiating. Burial was in the Barnwell County Memorial cemetery at the airport. Mole Funeral Home of Barnwell was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Still was born on Dec. 11, 1919 in Barnwell County. He was the son of the late Berry and Arrie Grubbs Still.
He was an army veteran of WWII having served in the Pacific theater of operations. He was the owner of Still's Cleaners for 30 years. He was a member of the Barnwell Lions Club and Gideon International. He was a former member and deacon of Calvary Baptist Church and was a member of First Baptist Church and served as a deacon. He had 45 years perfect attendance in Sunday school. He received the Outstanding Business Leader award in 1985 from the Barnwell County Chamber of Commerce.
He was predeceased by five sisters and four brothers.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Myrl S. Still of Barnwell; one son, Randall Still of Barnwell; one daughter, Deloris (Rick) Hiott of Columbia; one brother in law, Herman Harvey of Bamberg; six grandchildren.

Hazel Guthrie Taylor
Hazel Guthrie Taylor, 87, died April 3, 2009 at the Laurel Baye Nursing Center.
Funeral service was held April 5 at the First Baptist Church of Barnwell with Dr. Stephen Burnette officiating. Burial was in the Barnwell County Memorial cemetery at the airport.
Mrs. Taylor was born May 16, 1921 in Carbon Hill, Ala. She was the daughter of the late Louis Arbin and Willie Iola Patton Guthrie. She was a former employee of the Milliken Corp., was a member of the Town and Country Homemakers Club and the Barnwell First Baptist Church where she had taught in the Bible school program for a number of years. She was an accomplished artist. She was predeceased by her daughter, Patricia Taylor "Pat" Fickling and a sister, Doris G. Perry.
Survivors include her husband of 67 years, William Arvel Taylor of Barnwell; two granddaughters, Roz (Richard) Whatley of Barnwell and Daphne (Dan) Vaughan of Atlanta Ga.; one son-in-law, Gene Fickling Sr. of Blackville; one great-granddaughter, Taylor Vaughan of Atlanta, Ga.and several nieces and nephews.

David L. Thompson
David L. Thompson, 73, of Beverly Hills, Fla., died March 19, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Wilder Funeral Home of Homosassa, Fla. was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Thompson as born April 6, 1935 in West Va. He was the son of the late Dennis and Helen Thompson. He resided in Connecticut where he built a career in management with linen service companies. He was also chairperson and president for several years with the local Lions Club. In Florida, he worked part time at Twisted Oaks. He was predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Geraldine.
Survivors include three daughters, Helenann (Brian) Burke of Connecticut, Laura (Kenneth) Dicks of South Carolina and Leeann Lamb of South Carolina; one sister, Barbara Thompson Sciarrett; one brother-in-law, Felix Plourde of West Va.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Grace Valerie Towne
Grace Valerie Towne, died April 3, 2009.
Funeral service was held April 6 at Citadel Square Baptist Church with burial in the Live Oak cemetery. J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., West Ashley Chapel, Charleston was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Towne was born July 26, 1919 in Barnwell County. She was the daughter of Franklin McCoy and Bertha Mae Still Miles. She faithfully taught Sunday school for many years. She was a past Worthy Matron in the Order of the Eastern Star Loyalty Chapter No. 136.
Survivors include three sons, William A. (Patsy) Towne Jr. of Georgetown, James F. Towne Sr. of Daytona Beach, Fla. and Charles R. (Treva) Towne Sr. of Charleston; one daughter, Barbara T. Hines of Charleston; two brothers, Leonard P. Miles of Charleston and Doug Miles of Summerville; one sister, Gladys M. Ray; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
David Frye
David Frye, 56, of Barnwell, died March 18, 2009 at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
A memorial service will be held March 28 at Reger Funeral Home in Huntington, W. Va. with the Rev. Paul Russell officiating.
Mr. Frye was a native of Huntington, W. Va. He was the son of Ruth Frye and the late Harmon Frye. He was a mechanical maintenance planner with Kronotex USA in Barnwell. He was a member of the Palm Coast United Methodist Church in Palm Coast, Fla. He was predeceased by a brother, Harmon Frye Jr.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Donna J. Frye; his mother of Kenova, WV; one brother, Barry (Melanie) Frye of Barboursville, W.Va. and his mother-in-law, Phyllis Smith of Huntington, W. Va.
David Briggs Grubbs Sr.
David Briggs "Doc" Grubbs Sr., 89, died March 14, 2009 at the Barnwell County Hospital.
Funeral service was held March 18 at the Barnwell First Baptist Church Chapel with the Rev. Posey Belcher and Dr. Stephen Burnette officiating. Burial was in the Barnwell County Memory Gardens on Reynolds Rd.Mole Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Grubbs was born on Jan. 19, 1920 in Barnwell County. He was the son of the late John Calvin Riley and Ethel Lillian Still Grubbs. He was an Army Air Force Veteran of WWII having served in the Pacific Theater with the rank of Sergeant Major. He previously worked for Folk Buick and B&B Ford as service manager. He retired from the Production Credit Association as branch manager of the Allendale office. He was a member of the Barnwell First Baptist Church and served the church as a deacon.He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 63 years, Bonetta Creech Grubbs; five sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include one daughter, Rita G. (Dr. A. Mason) Ahearn of Georgetown, SC; two sons, David B.(Cathy) Grubbs Jr. of West Columbia and Steven R. (Gail) Grubbs of Mableton, Ga.; one sister, Omega G. Gilliam; and two brothers, Willie N. Grubbs of St. Matthews and Arden B. Grubbs of Barnwell; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Harry Johannes Albert Behrens
Harry Johannes Albert Behrens, 71, of rural Mauston, Wis., died March 26, 2009 at Hess Memorial Hospital in Mauston, Wis.
A memorial mass of Christian burial was held April 4, 2009 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church near Castle Rock Lake of rural Mauston, Wis. with Father John Paul Lobo celebrating. A memorial service was held April 7 at the Williston cemetery, Williston. Folk Funeral Home of Williston was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Behrens was born April 23, 1937 in Lueneburg, Germany. He was the son of the late Karl and Katharina (Bunz) Behrens.
As a young man he helped individuals travel from East Berlin to West Berlin. He immigrated to the United States on October 27, 1967 to work for Meehanite Corporation.
He was married
to the late Virginia Simmons for 28 years. He worked in metallurgy while living in Charlotte, N.C., Williston, Orbisonia, PA, Rock Hill and Birmingham, Ala. He then worked for the Georgia Ironworks in Thomson, Ga. and later returned to Meehanite and worked for them in Ohio and Wisconsin.
His is preceded in death by his parents, wife and brother-in-law, Dietmar Kupfer.
Survivors include his companion of the past several years, Rosetta Boyle; three children, Katharina and Karl both of Milwaukee and Harry, Jr. (Shelly) of Macon, Ga.; two sisters, Eva (Heinze) Kohlenbecker and Eirka Kupfer; two brothers, Karl (Gabrielle) and Herrmann (Sabine) and many nieces and nephews, living in Germany and the United States.
Addie Omega Gillam
Addie Omega Gilliam, 88, died, Dec. 5, 2009 in National Health Care of North Augusta, S.C.
Funeral service was held Dec. 9 at Reedy Branch Baptist Church with the Revs. Harry Warren and Danny Grubbs officiating. Burial was in the Barnwell County Memory Gardens on Reynolds Road. Mole Funeral Home of Barnwell was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Gilliam was born Nov. 11, 1921 in Barnwell County. She was the daughter of the late John Calvin Riley and Ethel Lillian Grubbs. She was the wife of the late Rolland Furman Gilliam. She was a homemaker and remained active in every phase of church life with the Reedy Branch Baptist Church until her decline in health. She was predeceased by sisters, Reba Moody, Janie Sanders, Ruth Williamson, Tinie Margaret Grubbs, and Norma Fowke, brothers, Reeves Grubbs, David Briggs Grubbs and Lester Grubbs.
Survivors include two daughters, Jonnie Claire (the late Bob) Still of Barnwell and Sue (Jim) Peeples of Murrieta Calif.; two brothers, Willie N. Grubbs of St. Matthews and Arden Grubbs of Barnwell and one grandson, Rolland Martin (Ann) Still of Barnwell.

Florrie Zorn Hook
Florrie Zorn Hook, 72, of Barnwell, died Dec. 1, 2009.
Funeral service was held Dec. 5 at the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston with burial in the Friendship Baptist Church cemetery. Folk Funeral Home of Williston was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Hook was born in Barnwell. She was the daughter of the late Edward Zorn and Zera Hair Zorn. She was married
to the late Roy Hook. She was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was predeceased by a daughter, Penny Hook Barker and sisters, Barbara Z. Adams and Violet Z. Dozier.
Survivors include two sons, Roy Hook and Kenneth Hook; two daughters, Jean Stewart Graham and Beverly Hook; one brother, Dewitt Zorn; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
John Trotti
John Trotti, 59, of Williston, died Dec. 2, 2009 at his residence.
A private ceremony was conducted. Hatcher Funeral Home of Langley was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Trotti was born in Augusta, Ga. He was the son of the late Gaspar J. and Helen Preacher Trotti Sr. He owned and operated John's Home Repair and Remodeling. He was a retired carpenter. He was a Vietnam veteran and served in the Army from 1968 until 1972. He was a member of the Barnwell First Assembly of God.
Survivors include his wife, Rene Rice Trotti; his children, Darrian Nicholas (Elizabeth) Trotti and Kelly Jo (Edward) Pacheo; siblings, Kathryn Morrison and Jane Meyerson and seven grandchildren.
Joyce Williams
Joyce Williams, 38, died Nov. 23, 2009 at her residence.
Funeral service was held Nov. 28 at Sunshine Baptist Church, Blackville with the Rev. Ethoin Rowe officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Lebby Funeral Home of Barnwell was in charge of the arrangements.
Ms. Williams was born Feb. 4, 1971. She was the daughter of Marion and Jestine Williams of Blackville. She was a member of the Sunshine Baptist Church.
Survivors include her parents of Blackville; two sisters, Carolyn Williams of Blackville and Christine W. (Dennis) Scott of Williston; one brother, David (Cherrie) Williams of Denmark; friend of the family, Larry Johnson; two nephews and four nieces and a host of aunts and uncles, cousins and friends.
Dr. Augustus Massebeau Boland Jr.
Dr. Augustus Massebeau Boland Jr., 61, of Blackville, died Dec. 2, 2009.
Graveside service was held Dec. 4 at the Springfield cemetery. Folk Funeral Home of Williston was in charge of the arrangements.
Dr. Boland was born in Columbia. He was the son of the late Augustus Massebeau and Lillian Boatwright Boland Sr. He was owner/operator of the dental practice, A. M. Boland Jr., DMD, in Barnwell. He was an Army veteran and a member of Springfield United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Rosa Myrick Boland of the home; two daughters, Mish B. (John) Nichols of Charlotte, N. C. and Lillian M. Boland of Columbia; one sister, Louise B. (Dr. John R.) Ross of Springfield; one brother, Bobby Boland of Camden and three grandchildren.
