Frank Kearse Jr.
Frank Kearse Jr., 76, of Bamberg, died April 10, 2011 at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston.
Funeral service was held April 16 at Sweet Rest Baptist Church, Olar, with the Rev. W. Larkins officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Dash’s Funeral Home of Bamberg was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Kearse was born Oct. 25, 1934 in Olar. He was the son of the late Frank Kearse Sr. and Inez Dublin-Kearse. He was married
to the late Pauline Toomer for 56 years.
He was predeceased by three sisters, Dorothy Mae Dickerson, Marzine Goodman and Shirl Charlene Davis-Turner and one brother, David Kearse.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline Kearse of Bamberg; two daughters, Ella Mae McCaskell of Bamberg and Inez Shipley (Gilbert) of Orange Park, Fla.; three sisters, Mother Mary Hudson of Govan, Elizabeth (Willie) Smart of Pompano Beach, Fla. and Nancy Davis of Denmark; one sister-in-law, Ruth (Leonard) Green of Brooklyn, N.Y. one brother-in-law, Elijah (Jackie) Grant of Jamaica Queens, N.Y.; two special neighbors, Edgar and Hazel Martin of Bamberg; two special granddaughters; four grandsons and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Henrietta Youmans Brooker
Henrietta Youmans Brooker, 65, of Allendale, died at St. Joseph Health Care in Atlanta, Ga.
Funeral service was held Nov. 10 at Simpson United Methodist Church, Allendale with burial in the Mt. Hope cemetery, Martin. Heritage Funeral Home of Allendale, Inc. was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Brooker was the daughter of Arthur Youmans and Celia Mae Wright.
Survivors include her husband, James H. Brooker Sr.; one son, James H. Brooker Jr. and one daughter, Tonya Brooker; six brothers; nine sisters and four grandchildren, family and friends.
Mattie L. Knox
Mattie L. Knox, 83, of Chicago, Ill., formerly of Barnwell County, died Nov. 1, 2010.
Funeral service was held Nov. 7 at St. Thomas Grove Baptist Church, Barnwell, with the Rev. John Willie Young officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Heritage Funeral Home of Allendale was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Knox was the daughter of the late Paul and Emma Rouse Jenkins. She was married
to Broxie Knox. She was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church of Chicago, Ill., serving on the senior choir and November Circle. She retired after 25 years of service at the Emmanuel Christian School.
Survivors include her husband, Broxie Knox of Chicago, Ill.; one sister, Essie (Nathaniel) Walker and one brother, Willie Matthew (Gertrude) Jenkins Sr. of Barnwell, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Brenda Joyce Anderson
Brenda Joyce Kennedy Anderson, 62, of Barnwell, died Nov. 6, 2010.
Funeral service was held Nov. 10 at the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston, with the Rev. Bob Scroggs officiating. Burial was in the Barnwell County Memorial cemetery by the airport. Folk Funeral Home of Williston was in charge of the arrangements.
Ms. Anderson was born in Barnwell County. She was the daughter of the late Benjamin Levi Kennedy and Sara Briggs Kennedy. She retired from the Barnwell School District #45 and was a member of the Barnwell First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a sister, Lilly Ann Belle Richardson; half-brothers, Wade, Horace and Hamp Sweat.
Survivors include two daughters, Michelle A. (Dennis) Bolen of Williston and Samantha Joyce (Billy) Anderson of Barnwell; one son, Charles Eric (Lynn) Anderson of Williston; a special friend, Edward Jeffcoat of Blackville; one brother, Benjamin Kennedy of Barnwell; half-sister, Ruby Aubert of Williston and three grandchildren.
Alicia Marie Dyches
Alicia Marie Dyches, 19, of Olar, died Nov. 1, 2010.
Funeral service was held Nov. 5 at Dyches Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Keith Richardson officiating. Burial was in the Barnwell County Memorial cemetery. Dyches Funeral Home of Barnwell was in charge of the arrangements.
Ms. Dyches was born in Barnwell County. She was the daughter of Mark Dyches of Olar and Angela Grubbs of Blackville. She was the stepdaughter of Donna Dyches and Stacey Owens. She was predeceased by her grandfather, Billy Grubbs.
Survivors include her parents and stepparents; six sisters, Kimberly Dyches of Snelling, Christal Chavis and Amanda Chavis of Hilda, Ashley Rountree, Erica Rountree and Kimberly Rountree of Barnwell; her grandparents, Margie Joyner of Blackville and Susan Williams of Windsor.
Grover Monroe ‘Monty’ Davis Jr.
Grover Monroe “Monty” Davis, Jr., 53, died Oct. 31, 2010.
A memorial service was held Nov. 1 at Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston. Folk Funeral Home of Williston was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Davis was born in Abbeville. He was the son of the late Grover M. Davis Sr. and Daisy Mann Davis. He taught chemistry and physic at Williston Elko High School for 19 years.
Survivors include his wife, Elisabeth Davis of the home; two sisters, Clara (Bill) Ford and Jennie (Horace) Amaker; three stepchildren, Jamey (Angie) Brady, Nancy (Robbie) Wood and Emily (Wesley) Wiles; five step-grandchildren, nephews and nieces and aunts.

Freddie M. Cothran
Freddie M. Cothran, 83, of Williston, died Oct. 31, 2010 at his residence.
Funeral service was held Nov. 3 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Walhalla, with the Rev. Floyd Dukes officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Folk Funeral Home of Williston was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Cothran was born in Westminster. He was the son of the late Clarence G. Cothran and Zellia Suttles Cothran. He was a U.S. Army veteran. His unit was first to arrive in Nagasaki after the bombing in Japan during WWII. He worked at E.I. DuPont in construction in Aiken, Camden, Florence and Indianapolis, IN. He was a charter member of the Williston Jaycees, American Legion Post #75, Hope Masonic Lodge # 126, was owner/operator of Williston Metal Works from 1969 to 2008 and was a member of Williston First Baptist Church. He was predeceased by sisters, Mary Ann Pickens and Sally C. Honea; brothers, Frank C., Billy G., and C. G. Cothran.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Mary Hardy Cothran of the home; one son, Bob Cothran of Williston: Betty C. Morrow of Seneca and Rachel C. (Harold) King of Wrightsville Beach, N.C. and a number of nieces and nephews.

Robert B. Pagett III
Robert B. Pagett, III, 29, died Oct. 27
Funeral services were held Nov. 1 at the Church of the Holy Apostles. Mole Funeral home of Barnwell was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Pagett was born July 11, 1981. He was the son of Robert B. Pagett, Jr. of Barnwell, and Dianne Evans Wells of Lake City. He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Harry Evans.
Survivors include one brother, Travis Felkel; one sister, Sonni Wells; a special friend, Kimberly Sanchelli; grandparents, Robert B. (Mary Jane) Pagett of Barnwell, Phyllis A. Pagett of Pawleys Island and Lurene Evans of Lake City; a nephew EJ Britton, aunts, uncles and nieces and nephews.
He was a member of The Church of the Holy Apostles of Barnwell, and Little Star Baptist Church of Lake City.
James Pinckney Keel
James Pinckney Keel, 87, of Barnwell, died Oct. 28, 2010 at the Veteran’s Victory House in Walterboro.
Mr. Keel was born March 23, 1923 in Elko. He was the son of the late John S. and Thelma Childress Keel. He served in the Army Air Force during WWII and retired as a TSGT with 22 years service. After he retired from the 8th USAF he went to work for the US Postal Service, Barnwell Office, and retired with 17 years service. He was married
to the late Eleanor Still Keel. He was predeceased by his children, James P. Keel Jr. and Janice Keel Whitehead, and a brother, John W. Keel.
Graveside service was held Oct. 31 in the Barnwell County Memorial cemetery at the airport with Full Military Honors accorded. The Rev. David Turner officiated. Mole Funeral Home of Barnwell was in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include two sons, Richard A. (Michelle) Keel of Columbia, and Joe D. (Sherry) Keel of Girard Ga.; two daughters, Alta K. (Reed) Swann and Rebecca K. (Steen) Pender of Barnwell; one sister, Helen K. Martin of Barnwell; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

John Allen ‘Bubba’ Grubbs
John Allen “Bubba” Grubbs, 63, of Barnwell, died Oct. 30, 2010 at the Aiken Regional Medical Center.
Funeral service was held Nov. 2 in the Mole Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Farrell Ray officiating. Burial was in the Barnwell County Memory Gardens on Reynolds Road. Mole Funeral Home of Barnwell was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Grubbs was born Sept. 22, 1947 in Charleston. He was the son of the late John Grubbs and Frances Croft Grubbs Satterfield. He was former store manager of Grubbs Pure Oil of Barnwell.
Survivors include five children, John Grubbs of Barnwell, Susan Grubbs of Barnwell, Sheri Crouse of Charleston, Brenda Bain of Rock Hill and Sandra Nichols of Vass N.C.; one brother, Bill Grubbs of Barnwell; seven sisters, Helen Mock, Betty Ray, Carolyn Reynolds, Shirley Bouchman and Nancy Blackwood, all of Barnwell, Glenda Spires of Cope and Johnnie Ruth Rosa of Denmark; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Carrie Mae Huggins
Carrie Mae Huggins, 77, died Oct. 25, 2010 at the Barnwell County Hospital.
Memorial service was held Oct. 31 at the Chapel of Dash’s Funeral Home of Blackville with Apostle Beafuchs and Prophet Willa Mae Smith officiating. Dash’s Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Huggins was the daughter of the late Emma Tyler Green and Jlee Green. She was employed with Barnwell School District 19 until her retirement. She was a member of Frost Branch Baptist Church of Williston. She was predeceased by a son, Barney Green.
Survivors include her husband, Ezekiel Huggins of Delaware; one daughter, Sabrina (Eugene) Singleton of Albany, N. Y.; one son, Markell Johnson of Columbia; three sisters, Pearl (Jimmie) Pough of Blackville, Josephine (Isaiah) Staley of Williston and Gladys (Willie) Johnson of Columbia; two brothers, Robert and Timothy Odom, both of Blackville; three grandchildren and nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Margarette Price Moore
Margarette Price Moore, 89, died Oct. 22, 2010 at the Laurel Bay Health Care, Williston.

Mrs. Moore was born Oct. 18, 1921 in Barnwell County. She was the daughter of the late Daniel and Jane Ann Price Sr. She was married
to the late Solomon Moore. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. She was predeceased by two sisters, Lucille Johnson and Elizabeth Austin.
Survivors include two sisters, Juliette Stanley of Brooklyn, N. Y. and George Anna (Dempsey) Robinson of New York City; one brother, Daniel (Vertell) Price Jr. of Greenville; a special niece, Syvena Moss of New York City; a special nephew, Joseph Stanley of Ridgeland; nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and other relatives and friends.
Lawyer B. Williamson Sr.
Lawyer B. Williamson Sr., 74, of Barnwell, died Oct. 24, 2010 at the Barnwell County Hospital.
Funeral service was held Oct. 30 at Union Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Guinyard and Sons Funeral Home of Barnwell was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Williamson was the son of the late Bryant and Ollie Williamson.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Williamson; seven children, Lawyer Jr., Robert, Benjamin, Debra, Paula, Laura (Manwell) and Curtis Lewis; five sisters, Kay Eubanks, Lena (Flemon) Buggs, Emily O’Stricker, Mary (Carl) Adams and Dian (Clyde) Myers; two brothers, Handy (Melanie) Williamson and Paul (Linda) Williamson; a god sister, Alberta Walker; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Willie Clarence Kinard III and Shirley Dean Kinard
Willie Clarence Kinard III, 61, died Oct. 23, 2010 at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg and his wife, Shirley Dean Kinard, 60, died Oct. 22, 2010 at the Palmetto Health Richland, Columbia.
Funeral service was held Oct. 30 at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church in Bamberg with the Rev. Leonard Huggins officiating. Dash’s Funeral Home of Bamberg was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Kinard was born Dec. 12, 1948 in Barnwell County. He was the son of the late Lenwood and Bernell Dolby Kinard. He was married
to Shirley Dean Summers Kinard. He was employed with Bamberg Textile Mill. Upon leaving the textile industry, he provided services to numerous businesses in the local community.
Mrs. Kinard was born March 18, 1950 in Bamberg County. She was the daughter of the late Shellie Summers and Julia Franklin Summers. She was married
to Willie C. Kinard III for 40 years. She was employed with Bamberg Textile Mill and the Bamberg County Nursing Center for 13 years. She was a member of Mt. Carmel United Church.
Survivors include two sons, Dwayne and Willie Kinard IV, both of Bamberg; three daughters, Debbie (Penny) Galloway of Cordova, Sharlene (Herman) Anderson of Orangeburg and Barbara Kinard of Bamberg; Mr. Kinard is survived by two brothers, Leonard Kinard of Neeses and Willard Eric Hughes of Seneca; one sister, Annie Ruth Davis of New York; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
