Sammie Lee Patterson
Sammie Lee Patterson, 59, of Barnwell, died July 24, 2010.
Funeral service was held Aug. 1 at Saint Paul Baptist Church, Snelling with the Rev. John Young officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Lebby Funeral Home of Barnwell was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Patterson was born Dec. 1, 1950 in Barnwell County. He was the son of the late James Otis Patterson and Sally Holley Patterson. He was a member of Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church. He was predeceased by a sister, Gladys Barker; one son, John L. Tyrone Patterson and an uncle, Brooker T. Holley.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara W. Patterson of the home; 11 children, Rose Judy (Cory) Williams, Sammie Louis (Marie) Mays, both of Barnwell, Eddie Lee (Sheila) Patterson of Trenton, Juilmain (Tammy) Patterson of N. M., Darrell Williams of Co., James M. (Olivia) Williams of Austin, Texas, Iesha P. Williams of Barnwell, Isaac Williams of Colorado Springs, Co., Joseph J. Williams, Traviny Davis and Teishay Davis, all of Barnwell; one brother, James L. Patterson of Barnwell; two sisters, Juilette Glover of Barnwell and Orther Bell Roundtree of Twin City, Ga.; two brothers-in-law, Richard A. (Darlene) Williams and Joseph M. (Dorothy) Williams, both of Barnwell; two sisters-in-law, Vivian L. Thurmond and Maggie F. Scurlock; a mother-in-law, Martha Williams of Barnwell; four nieces; four nephews; three special friends, Benjamin Weas, Lawton Isaac and J. C. Foust, all of Barnwell; 28 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Carl Wayne Stephens
Carl Wayne Stephens, 61, of Olar, died July 7, 2010 in Augusta, Ga.
Funeral service was held July 12 at the Barnwell County Memory Gardens with the Rev. Rommie Martin officiating. Mole Funeral Home of Barnwell was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Stephens was born on April 19, 1949 in Hollywood, Fla. He was the son of the late Chester and Flora Knighten. He was predeceased by brothers, James Edward and Richard Neil Stephens.
Survivors include three sisters, Rose Marie Davis and Evelyn Badger of Barnwell and Mary MacFadyen of Pontiac, Mich. and several nieces and nephews.
Rosa Dell ‘Moochie’ Kemp
Rosa Dell “Moochie” Kemp, died July 23, 2010 at the Bamberg County Hospital.
Funeral service was held July 30 at Honeyford Baptist Church, Denmark with the Rev. Anthony D. Mansfield officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Lebby Funeral Home of Denmark was in charge of the arrangements.
Ms. Kemp was born Sept. 1, 1959 in Denmark. She was the daughter of Woodrow H. Kemp and the late Emma Dell Jeffrey-Kemp. She was employed the Dean Witter Financial Investment Firm of New York City. She moved back to Denmark and continued her career with the Denmark School System and then the Department of Social Services.
Survivors include her father of Denmark; two sons, Nathaniel H. Kemp and Danny Parlar JR. of Denmark; a special friend, Stanley Fickling of Denmark; eight sisters; seven brothers and a host of family and friends.
Horace Eugene Croft
Horace Eugene Croft, 87, of Williston, died July 29, 2010.
Funeral service was held July 31 at the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston with burial at the Barnwell Memorial cemetery by the airport. Folk Funeral Home, Williston was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Croft was born in Barnwell County. He was the son of the late Horace Grady Croft and Gertrude Morris Croft. He retired from E.I. DuPont where he worked in transportation and for more than 16 years he worked for Barnwell County Law Enforcement. He was a member of Barnwell Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by sisters, Sadie Smith, Zelma Padgett, Frances Satterfield; brothers, Lee Hugh Croft and James Stanley Croft.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Amelia C. Croft; four sons, Gene (Brenda) Croft of Barnwell, Kenneth (Shannon) Croft of Williston, Jackie (Gayle) Croft and Wayne (Deborah) Croft, all of Barnwell; one brother, Grady Lee Croft; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Ruby Joyce Abbott Owens
Ruby Joyce Abbott Owens, 70, died July 31, 2010.
Graveside service was held August 3 at Barnwell Memory Gardens on Reynolds Road with the Revs. Bob and Ken Frederick officiating. Folk Funeral Home of Williston was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Owens was born in Orangeburg County. She was the daughter of the late Jesse L. Abbott, Sr. and Lizzie Bolin Abbott. She was a homemaker having worked with her late husband Oscar Owens at their family business, Oscar Owens Well Drilling. She was a member of Healing Springs Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Meletta O. (Scott) Kaigler, Melody O. (Eddie) Bonnette; four sisters, Rose Eva Willis, Mozelle Sheffield, Lois Barr and Louise Rollins; one brother, Jesse Lee “Sonny Boy” Abbott, Jr.; three grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Norman Leon Hayes
Norman Leon Hayes, 47, of Orangeburg, died July 27, 2010 at The Regional Medical
Center, Orangeburg.
Funeral services was held July at Macedonia Baptist Church, Blackville with Pastor Floyd Hughes, Sr. officiating. Burial was in the Blackville cemetery. Washington’s Funeral Home of Hampton was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Hayes was born June 20, 1963 in Barnwell County. He was the son of Joan Jessie Hayes and the late Mr. Norman Hayes. He spent his childhood in Williston. Upon relocating to Orangeburg, he was employed for more than sixteen years as a manager by Wal-Mart of Orangeburg. He was a baptized member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, Blackville.
Survivor include his mother, Joan Jessie Hayes of Williston; one sister, Helaine Yvette Hayes (Dr. Michael Addison) of Orangeburg, South Carolina; aunts and uncles; his godmother, Bernice Green of Aiken and numerous cousins and friends.
Curtis Pressey
Curtis Pressey, 58, of Blackville died July 3, 2010 at the Aiken County Regional
Hospital, in Aiken.
Funeral service was held July 10 at Shrub Branch Missionary Baptist Church, Blackville with burial in the church cemetery. Washington’s Funeral Home of Hampton was in charge of funeral arrangements.
Mr. Pressey was born August 28, 1951 in Blackville. He was the son of the late Deacon George Pressey, Sr. and the late Dorothy Hughes Pressey. He joined the Shrub Branch Baptist Church at an early age and remained a faithful member for his entire life. He lived for extended periods in Atlanta, Ga. and Los Angeles, California where he was employed as a master fabricator for Thatcher Glass Company for over 10 years.
Survivors include one daughter, Ebonie Necole Pressey of Columbia; one son, Dantel (Reco) Robinson of Blackville; four sisters, Elouise Raysor of Blackville, Zelma (Harold) Harvey of Greenville, Texas, Josephine Pressey of Brentwood, N. Y. and Mary Kirkland of Blackville; four brothers, Lloyd (Christine) Pressey of Brooklyn, N. Y., Eugene Pressey of Blackville, Willie Edward (Sarah) Pressey of Deer Park, N. Y. and Charles Michael Pressey of Aiken; two grandchildren and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Robert Edwin Berry
Robert Edwin Berry, 63 of Hanover, MA formerly of GA and SC, died at home on July 25, 2010.
Graveside service with military honors was held on July 30 at the Massachusetts National cemetery in Bourne. Sullivan Funeral Home of Hanover was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Berry was born Nov. 23, 1946 in Hanover, Ma. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War and was later employed as a truck driver. He owned his own rig for many years and later drove for Hitman Trucking. He was a life member of the Plymouth VFW Post 1822. He was employed for many years at Chem. Nuclear.
Survivors include one son, Robert Bradley Berry of Georgia; one brother of Richard Berry of Pembroke, Joan Reed of Carver, Wayne Berry of AZ and Patricia Austin of Hanover.

Pansy Creech
Pansy Ann Bruce Creech, 74, of Blackville, died July 19, 2010.
Funeral service was held July 23 at First Baptist Church in Blackville with the Rev. Dr. Thomas Terry officiating. Folk Funeral Home of Williston was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Creech was born in Vivian, La. She was the daughter of the late Dalton D. Bruce and Golda Irene Cantrell Bruce. She was married
to the late Billy Gene Creech for 53 years. She retired from the Blackville public school district. She was a Blackville Garden Club member and a member of Blackville First Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Carol (Tom) Sanderson; one son, Michael (Penny) Creech; one brother, Ronald Alan Bruce and five grandchildren.

Ronald Dean Morris Sr.
Ronald Dean Morris Sr., 77, of Olar, died July 21, 2010 at Laurel Baye Healthcare.
Graveside services was held July 24 at the First Baptist Church of Olar cemetery with the Revs. Thomas Terry and Wayne Lovett officiating. Mole Funeral Home of Barnwell was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Morris was born Sept. 19, 1932 in Olar. He was the son of the late Grover Cleveland and Anna McCormack Morris. He was a farmer and member of the First Baptist Church of Olar, Woodmen of the World and the Olar Volunteer Fire Department. He was a former part-time employee for the town of Olar. He was predeceased by a son, Ronald Dean (Bubba) Morris Jr., brothers, Wyman Morris of Sycamore, Tommy Morris of Olar, sisters, Sarah M. Howard of Pinewood N.C., Carrie M. Gulledge of Sumter and Victoria M. Wilson of Raleigh N.C.
Survivors include one daughter, Cindy M. (Wayne) Sexton of Goose Creek; one brother, E.W. (Joyce) Morris of Jackson; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Betty Jane Driggers Rudd
Mrs. Betty Jane Driggers Rudd, 75, died July 21, 2010 at the Aiken Regional Medical Center.
Graveside service was held July 23 at Crestlawn cemetery in Orangeburg with the Rev. Benny E. Burton officiated. Mole Funeral Home of Barnwell was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Rudd was born Aug. 25, 1934 in Orangeburg. She was the daughter of the late Leon and Rena Bunch Driggers. She was a member of the Church of God. She assisted her husband, the Rev. Herbert Rudd with many churches in South Carolina
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, the Rev. Hubert Lee Rudd of Barnwell; one daughter, Angie (Terry) Mise of Barnwell; one son, Mark A. (Tammy) Rudd of Aiken; one brother, Charlie “Sonny” Driggers of Simpsonville; one sister, Margaret D. Bozard of Orangeburg; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Eric Dale Phillips
Eric Dale Phillips, 21 of Barnwell, died July 21, 2010.
Funeral service was held July 25, 2010 at the Mole Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Barnwell Co. Memorial cemetery at the airport. Mole Funeral Home of Barnwell was in charge of the arrangements.
He was preceded in death by his uncle, Johnny Hanniford.
Survivors include his father, Larry Ansley Phillips, Jr.; mother, Ingried Hanniford Phillips; children, Owen Michael and Shawn Cole Phillips; two brothers, Larry Chad and John Mitchell Phillips; grandparents, John H. Hanniford III, Carolyn Reynolds, Debbie Johnson, Larry Ansley Phillips, Sr.; uncles, Danny Phillips, Hank Hanniford; aunt, Tonya Vincent; cousins, Sandra Morris, Rachal, Ethan, and Taylor Hanniford, Zackery Phillips, Morgan, Justin, and Christopher Vincent, Kevin Sikes; and many other family members and loving friends.

Carol L. Cable Caron
Carol L. Cable Caron, 77, of Barnwell, died July 14, 2010.
Memorial services was held July 16, 2010 at Siloam United Methodist Church in Barnwell, with the Rev. Michael Hood officiating. Dyches Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Caron was born Oct. 9, 1932 in Norwalk, Conn. She was the daughter of the late Harvey M. Cable and Dorothy E. Mourison Cable and step-father, Sherman E. Davis. She was the widow of Raymond M. Caron. She held teaching positions in Durham, N.H., Nashua, N.H. and Buxton, Maine. After her retirement, she spent winters in South Carolina with her husband, Raymond Caron. In 1994, they became permanent residents in Barnwell. She was an active member of the Siloam United Methodist Church in Barnwell.
Mrs. Caron was the mother to Michele, Danielle and Virginia; mother-in-law to Peter Bennett and Richard Vigne and had three grandchildren.
