EARLY BRANCH - Charles Edward Heape Sr., 58, of Early Branch, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, in Beaufort Memorial Hospital.
The family will receive friends after 6 p.m. today in the Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home, Hampton.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Mount Olive Baptist Church, Early Branch, with burial in the Zahler cemetery.
Mr. Heape was born April 19, 1943, in Yemassee, a son of Minnie Leona Youmans Heape and Benjamin R. Heape. Mr. Heape was a self-employed carpenter and a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and superintendent of Sunday school.
Survivors include his wife, Rosemary Wiggins Heape of Early Branch; a son, Charles Heape Jr., of Early Branch; a sister, Alice Harvey of Cummings; three brothers, James Heape and William Heape both of Cummings and Darell Heape of Gaston; and three grandchildren.

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. -- Virginia M. May, 69, of Jacksonville, N.C., died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001, in New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington, N.C.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Coastal Carolina State Veterans cemetery.
Mrs. Mitchell was born March 25, 1932, in Beaufort County, a daughter of Kate Connelly and Joe White.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth N. May of Jacksonville; three daughters, Debbie Dorn and Tabby Marshburn of Jacksonville, Kathy Bowers of Pittsburgh; two sons, Joey Pavy of Madison, N.C. and Kenneth May Jr. of Martinsville, Va.; two sisters, Helen Jones and Jean Hamm of Beaufort; a brother, Mike White of Beaufort; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

YEMASSEE -- Deacon Jack "Buck" Mitchell Jr., 91, of Yemassee, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, in Beaufort Memorial Hospital.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today in Mount Nebo Baptist Church, Yemassee.
Mr. Mitchell was born July 22, 1910, in Colleton County, a son of Jack Mitchell and Janie Chisolm Mitchell. He was a member of Mount Nebo Baptist Church. Mr. Mitchell was an ordained deacon, a member of the deacon board, a missionary and member of the male chorus. He was a retired employee of Georgia-Pacific in Varnville and was a farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Sadie Mitchell of Yemassee; 10 daughters, Jannie Young, Carrie Williams, Annabell Brown, Rosalee Singleton, Lorine Ferguson, Annette Young, Cynthia Mitchell and Nicole Mitchell of Yemassee, Sadie Brown of Baltimore and Patricia Butler of Dumfries, Va.; five sons, Henry Mitchell of Maplewood, N.J., Jack Mitchell and Herman Mitchell of Yemassee, Sherman Mitchell of Walterboro and Draper Mitchell of New Orleans; one sister, Viola Roberts of Yemassee; 35 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Alvin DeLaney, 50, of Stuart Point, died Friday, Dec. 7, 2001, at his residence.
A wake will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the Church of Christ Outreach Ministry, Grays Hill.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church with burial with military honors at Beaufort National cemetery.
Mr. DeLaney was born on Dec. 4, 1951, in Beaufort, a son of Christopher DeLaney Sr. and Dianna Simmons DeLaney. He was a 1970 graduate of Robert Smalls High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served for 13 years. He also was a member of Church of Christ Outreach Ministry.
He was preceded in death by his father and two sisters, Elizabeth Mulligan and Anna Belle DeLaney.
Survivors include his mother of Stuart Point; his wife, Evelena DeLaney of Stuart Point; two daughters, Sabrina DeLaney of Durham, N.C., and Tanina DeLaney of Stuart Point; two sons, Greggory DeLaney of Stuart Point and Antoine Brown of Burton; two sisters, Annette DeLaney of Stuart Point and Sharon Bryant of Connecticut; five brothers, Robert DeLaney, Christopher DeLaney, Clarence DeLaney and Benjamin DeLaney, of Stuart Point and Jerome DeLaney of Honolulu.

FRIPP ISLAND -- Ruth Grover Meredith, 88, died, Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001, at her residence.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Anne's Episcopal Church in Atlanta.
Mrs. Meredith was born March 22, 1913, a daughter of Cleveland David Grover and Cora Thompson Grover. She graduated from Queens College in Charlotte with majors in math and chemistry. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, the Phi Mu Sorority, Alpha Kappa Gamma, leadership fraternity and student body president her senior year. She served as president of the College Park Women's Club. She retired to Fripp Island where she chaired the security committee.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Connor Meredith.
Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth Meredith Dowling; two sons, Cleveland G. Meredith Sr. and William Conner Meredith III; and six grandchildren.

Larcena Sabrina Gadson-Parker, 29, of Hilton Head Island, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001, in Hilton Head Medical Center.

Mrs. Gadson-Parker was born Oct. 23, 1972, in Savannah, a daughter of Virginia Chisolm Gadson and Herman Chisolm.
She attended public schools on Hilton Head Island and earned her GED in 1994. She was a member of the St. James Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir and and the El Shaddi Voices.
Survivors include her husband, Willie L. Parker, of Hilton Head Island; two sisters, Marilyn Steward of Hilton Head Island and Barbara A. Thomas of St. Helena Island; four brothers, Carlos Gadson of Columbia, David Aiken and Herman Bryan of Hilton Head Island and Leonard Green of Ridgeland.

Katherine "Kathi" Elizabeth Lambert, 37, of Beaufort, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, at her residence.
Graveside services with military honors will be at 11 a.m. today in Beaufort National cemetery.
Ms. Lambert was born Dec. 2, 1964, in London, England, a daughter of John Ceiriog-Hughes and Patricia Knight Ceiriog-Hughes.
She served in the Marines Corps during Operation Desert Storm. She was a member of the AMVETS.
Survivors include a son, Zach Lambert of Beaufort; her parents of Chester-Le-Street, England; and a brother, David Ceiriog-Hughes of Winchester, England.

William "Bill" Francis, 82, of Burton, died Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, at his residence.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Baptist Church with burial in Beaufort National cemetery with military honors.
Mr. Francis was born Jan. 6, 1919, in Colleton County, a son of Cora Hayes Murray and Willie Murray.
He was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church, where he served on the trustee board and was recently made a trustee emeritus. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and was active in disabled veterans activities. He was a retired electrician and formerly employed with the Creekmore Electric Company.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Bee Francis and two sisters, Minnie Murray and Queen E. Bennett.
Survivors include five daughters, Ruby Macauley of Garden City, Ga., Patricia Fleming of Mt. Vernon, N.Y., Sharon Thompson of Ft. Bragg, N.C., Willye Francis of Camp Springs, Md., and Theresa Fuller of Ridgeland; a son, Emmitt Francis of Burton; two sisters, Bernice Eichelberger of Chicago and Louise M. Allen of Beaufort; 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Kenneth H. Hildreth, 60, of Rose Hill Plantation, Bluffton, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, at his residence.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with burial in Beaufort National cemetery with military honors.
Mr. Hildreth was born Nov. 16, 1941, a son of Kenneth H. Hildreth, Sr. and Mary E. Lindamood Hildreth. He moved to Beaufort County in 1981 from Atlanta. He retired from the U.S. Air Force and was a real estate broker.
Survivors include his wife, Susan Hildreth of Bluffton; two sons, Jason Hildreth of Beaufort and Jimmy Hildreth of Marietta, Ga.; three sisters, Cheryl Maliszewski and Audette Beers of Laurel, Md., and Michelle Billingley of Bowie, Md.; two brothers, Michael Hildreth of Savannah and Mark Hildreth of Hebron, Md.; and four grandchildren.

PHILADELPHIA -- J. Marion Wigg, 77, of Philadelphia, formerly of St. Helena Island, son of Christena Smalls Hightower and the late John Wigg, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, in Graduate Hospital, Philadelphia.
Minnie Louise Kinard
Minnie Louise Kinard, 77, of Beaufort, widow of Charles F. Kinard, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001, in Beaufort Memorial Hospital.
Memorial services were Sunday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Mrs. Kinard was born May 16, 1924, in Grover, a daughter of Curtis Pinckney Knight and Lula Vaughn Ackerman Knight. A homemaker and 41-year resident of Beaufort County, she had been a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses since 1967.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Sharon Snipes.
Survivors include two daughters, Laurel V. Darby of Sacramento, Calif., and Charlene F. Crenshaw of Beaufort; two sons, James Edward Snipes of Beaufort and Larry Snipes of Sacramento, Calif.; a step-daughter, Martha Todd of Cottageville; two step-sons, Charles Edward Kinard of Loris and Walter Kinard of Ravenel; a brother, James A. Knight of Johns Island; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
