SLOCOMB, Ala. - Thomas Benjamin Edens, 60, formerly of Charleston, a retired roofing contractor, died Saturday at his residence. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday in New Hinson Baptist Church of Fadette. Burial, directed by Kent-Thornton Funeral Home of Dothan, will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Edens was born in Sumter, S.C., a son of Horace H. Edens and Anna Goins Edens. He was a member of New Hinson Baptist Church.
Surviving are his mother of John's Island; three daughters, Linda F. Hedge of Omaha, Neb., and Pamela Sanchez and Janet Sanchez, both of Immokalee, Fla.; two sisters, Carolyn Clark and Connie Arnold of Charleston; two brothers, James Edens of Anchorage, Alaska, and Ulma Edens of John's Island, S.C.; and five grandchildren.

BARNWELL - Maybell Mitchell, 83, a retired nanny, died Thursday in a local hospital. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in St. Peter AME Church in Gifford. Burial, directed by Riley's Funeral Home, will be in Emmanuel RUME cemetery in Gifford.
Mrs. Mitchell was born in Allendale County, a daughter of Horney Mitchell and Mary Lou Kettles Mitchell. She was an active member of St. Peter AME Church.
Surviving are four sisters, Rosa Lee Wright of Piscataway, N.J., Johnnie Mae Owens of Savannah, Carrie Cooks of Leesburg, Fla., and Florrie Mitchell-Wright of Estill.

CHERRY HILL, N.J. - Paul L. Syfrett, 83, formerly of Charleston, a retired carpenter and builder, died Thursday in his residence. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Carolina Memorial Gardens in Hanahan, according to Eichel Funeral Home in Pennsauken, N.J.
Mr. Syfrett was born in Roseville, S.C., a son of Andrew Syfrett and Janie Morrell Syfrett. He was a member of Woodmen of the World.
Surviving are a daughter, Margaret Roskoph of Cherry Hill; two grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

SUMMERVILLE - Johnnie Allen Judy, 93, a retired plainer-mill operator with Munnerlyn Lumber Co. in Bennettsville, died Friday in a nursing home. Mr. Judy was born in Reevesville, a son of Thomas J. Judy and Mary Myers Judy. He attended Dorchester County schools. He was a member of Stevens Memorial Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was the widower of Irene Elder Judy.
Surviving are a daughter, Aleene J. Carroll of Charleston Heights; five sons, Elder L. Judy of Hiawassee, Ga., Robert D. Judy and Gerald L. Judy, both of Columbia, Odell Judy of Summerville and Charles Judy of Wilson, N.C.; a stepson, Rudolph J. Hammond of Kannapolis, N.C.; 30 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Nelson was born in Salters, a daughter of the Rev. William Frazier and Susanna Ferrell Frazier. She attended Williamsburg County Schools. She was an active member of St. Asia Baptist Church. She was the widow of Harmon Nelson.
Surviving are two daughters, Susan V. Nelson of East Orange, N.J., and Pattie Tolliver of Washington, D.C.; a grandson, Richard Nelson and six other grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

BURLINGTON, N.C. - C. Gilmer Rascoe, 85, a professional commercial and industrial property appraiser and retired tax supervisor for Alamance County, died Friday in a local nursing home. Mr. Rascoe was born in Caswell County, N.C., a son of Benjamin F. Rascoe and Mattie Davis Rascoe. He was an Air Force Veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Southern Caswell Ruritan and the Civitan. He was a Mason. He was a member of the Glider Pilots Association. He was an active member of Baynes Baptist Church.

ANDREWS - Jerome Moskow, 80, owner and founder of Moskow Accounting, P.A., died Thursday in a Georgetown hospital. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Family Life Center of Trinity United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by McKenzie's Andrews Chapel, will be in Andrews Memorial cemetery.
Mr. Moskow was born in Andrews, a son of Robert Moskow and Eva Cox Moskow. He was a graduate of Sumter High School. He was chairman of the Andrews Historical Society, the Andrews School Board and the Andrews Planning Commission. He was a member of the Andrews Revitalization Committee and was chief of the Andrews Fire Department for 30 years. He was a decorated member of the Boy Scouts of America. He was an active and honored long-time member of the Lions Club. He was a member of the S.C. Association of Public Accountants. He received the S.C. Municipal Association Award and the Order of the Palmetto. He was an active member of the Congregation Beth Or Synagogue in Kingstree.
Surviving are his wife, Maria Lydia Morris Moskow of Andrews; a son, Samuel Moskow of Niskayuna, N.Y.; two daughters, Diane Moskow-McKenzie of Myrtle Beach and Melissa Moskow of Andrews; a brother, Dr. H.A. Moskow of Denmark; a sister, Mildred Sloan of Georgetown; and four grandchildren.
