GRAY'S HILL - Joseph Washington, 63, a maintenance supervisor with the Gray's Hill Laundromat, died Tuesday in a Walterboro hospital. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in 2nd Jordan Baptist Church in Burton. Burial, directed by Marshel's Wright-Donaldson Funeral Home of Beaufort, will be in Perriclair cemetery in Ann's Point.
Mr. Washington was born in Savannah, a son of Daniel Washington and Ruth Cuthbert Washington. He was a former resident of Woodridge, N.Y.
Surviving are two sons, Julius Campbell of Cottageville and Robert Washington of Milledgeville, Ga.; four daughters, Joe Anne Swanson of Syracuse, N.Y., Selma Bradham of Varnville, Priscilla Battle of Milledgeville and Beverly Lewis of Cottageville; two brothers, Samuel Washington of Burton and Daniel Washington of Queens, N.Y.; 14 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

KEM C. SMALLS
ST. GEORGE - Kem Carletta Smalls, 25, an employee with Kids Are First Daycare Center and the Waffle House, died Tuesday at her residence. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in St. Luke United Methodist Church in Grover. Burial, directed by Ling Funeral Home, will be in the church cemetery.
Ms. Smalls was born in Vance, a daughter of Prince Smalls and Louise Keitt Smalls, She was a graduate of Holly Hill-Roberts High School and attended Claflin College.
Surviving are her mother of St. George; her father of Holly Hill; a daughter, Krystal T. Smalls of St. George; three sisters, Princess E. Hankins and Dawn V. Smalls, both of St. George, and Thelma N. Robinson of Orangeburg; a brother, Ronald G. Smalls of Holly Hill; and a grandfather, Benjamin Smalls of Holly Hill.

JOHN E. SCRIVEN
GIFFORD - John Edward Scriven, 23, died Monday in an Allendale County hospital. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Estill District Auditorium of Estill. Burial, directed by Riley's Funeral Home of Fairfax, will be in Emmanuel Reformed Methodist Union Episcopal Church cemetery.
Mr. Scriven was born in Allendale County, a son of Johnnie Lee Scriven and Bertha Scriven. He was a graduate of Estill High School and an Army veteran. He attended Emmanuel Reformed Methodist Union Episcopal Church.
Surviving are his parents; three sisters, Linnet Duncan of Scotia, Annette Griffin of Nixville and Denise Scriven of Gifford; his grandparents, Beatrice Scriven of Gifford and Henry Miller of Charlotte; and his great-grandfather, Henry Smith of Gifford.

VIOLA J. SINGLETON
WALTERBORO - The funeral for Viola J. Singleton will be at 2 p.m. today in St. John Baptist Church in Sand Hill. Burial, directed by Mungo Funeral Home, will be in Woodfoot cemetery in Neyles.
Mrs. Singleton, 53, died April 24 at her residence. She was born in Walterboro, a daughter of Bennie Jordan and Leola Jordan. She attended Colleton County schools and was a member of St. John Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Richard Singleton; a daughter, Cathy Singleton of Walterboro; two sons, Clifford Alls of San Jose, Calif., and Ronnie Alls of Bay Town, Texas; seven sisters, Redell Frost of Ridgeland, Christine Allen, Gloria Moore and Iris Washington, all of Walterboro, Ethel Mae Johnson of Salisbury, Md., Sharon Edwards of Fort Bragg, N.C., and Nancy Washington of Hardeeville; three brothers, Gregory Allen of Lithonia, Ga., Herman Ford of Newark, N.J., and Jimmy Green of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and 10 grandchildren.

WILLIAM L. PARKER
CADES - William L. Parker, 78, a retired pipefitter with International Paper Co., died Wednesday at his residence. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. today in Terrell's Church of God in Lake City. Burial, directed by Brockington Funeral Home of Lake City, will be in Parker cemetery in Lake City.
Mr. Parker was born in Cades, a son of Cleve Parker and Lula Parker. He was a member of Terrell's Church of God.
Surviving are his wife, Natalie Broach Parker; two sons, Lavern L. Parker of Fountain Inn and Bill Parker of Georgetown; a daughter, Esther Grubbs of Lumberton, N.C.; three half brothers, Francis Parker and Robert Parker, both of Georgetown, and Oneal Parker of New Zion; four half sisters, Addy Bell Mixon of Hanahan, Carolyn Cumbie of Greenwood, Fannie Mae Brandham of Georgetown and Rose Covil of Conyers, Ga.; nine grandchildren; and 17 grandchildren.

ARNOLD A. MATTHEWS
MARION - Arnold A. Matthews, 72, a retired railroad technician, died Wednesday in a Florence hospital. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Shiloh United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by Richardson-Miles Funeral Home, will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Matthews was born in Coward, a son of Robert M. Matthews and Ora Eva Matthews. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the VFW, the Robert Burns Lodge and Shiloh United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Juanita B. Matthews; a daughter, Connie Post of Marion; a brother, Rudolph Matthews of Coward; a sister, Lyra Clem of Florence; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Mrs. Eslinger was born in Orangeburg, a daughter of Carl James and Bessie Sandifer James.
Surviving are a son, Frank E. Eslinger of Columbus, Ga.; and a grandchild.

SWANSEA - Avalee Neese Fairrington, 70, a retired clerk with the Lexington County Magistrate's Office, died Thursday in an Orangeburg hospital. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Faith Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Thompson Funeral Home of Orangeburg, will be in Sardis Baptist Church cemetery.
Mrs. Fairrington was born in Lexington County, a daughter of Raymond L. Neese and Beulah Jumper Neese. She was a member of Sardis Baptist Church and attended Faith Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Al J. Fairrington; a daughter, Teresa F. Brickle of Moncks Corner; two sons, Ralph J. Fairrington and Brent L. Fairrington, both of Swansea; two brothers, Billy Neese and Edward Neese, both of Swansea; and four grandchildren.

HOLLY HILL - Maidia Tarte Thornley, 90, died Thursday in an Orangeburg nursing home. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Avinger Funeral Home. Burial will be in Holly Hill cemetery.
Mrs. Thornley was born in Darlington County, a daughter of Henry B. Tarte and Kathryn Christian Gray Tarte. She was a graduate of Macedonia High School. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was an active member of First Baptist Church. She was the widow of Ernest L. Thornley.
Surviving are a daughter, Evelyn Patrick of Santee; two sons, Roy Thornley of Holly Hill and Edward Thornley of Georgetown; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

PHILADELPHIA - The funeral for Annie L. Cooper will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Bethesda United Methodist Church of Lake City, S.C. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home of Kingstree, S.C., will be in Willie Cooper cemetery of Lake City.
Mrs. Cooper, 81, a retired salesperson, died April 23 in a local hospital. She was born in Lake City, a daughter of Harvey Cooper and Sara McKnight. She attended Williamsburg County and Philadelphia schools. She was an active member of Haven Memorial United Methodist Church of Philadelphia.
Survivors include a niece, Corine E. Cooper of Philadelphia.

DILLON - John William "Bud" Campbell, 69, died Thursday at his residence. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Pyerian Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Cooper Funeral Home, will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Campbell was born in Robeson County, N.C., a son of Dewey T. Campbell and Lila Catherine Hardy Campbell. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Oak Grove Symphony Orchestra and the Singing Gospel Carriers. He was a member of Pyerian Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Nina Faye Barfield Campbell; three daughters, Debra Lawrimore and Jeana Ammons, both of Mullins, and Catina Hood of Timmonsville; a son, Robbie Ammons of Mullins; a sister, Mildred Webster of Latta; two brothers, Earl Campbell of Sumter and Dewey T. Campbell Jr. of Chicago; nine grandchildren; and a stepgrandchild.

Mrs. Owens was born in Beaufort, a daughter of Leland O. Drew and Sara E. Moore Drew. She was a graduate of Montreat-Anderson College and was a master member of the American Contract Bridge League. She was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church.
Surviving are her husband, Coleman C. Owens; a daughter, Sara O. Vale of Mount Pleasant; a son, Coleman C. Owens Jr. of Mount Pleasant; two brothers, L.O. Drew of Clemson and J.I. Drew of Vestal, N.Y.; four grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.
