MULLINS - Virginia Strickland Harrelson, 78, died Sunday. The funeral will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday in Mullins First Baptist Church. Entombment, directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home, will be in Red Hill Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Harrelson was born in Marion County, a daughter of J. Calvin Strickland and Daisy Shelley Strickland Drew. She was a graduate of Mullins High School. She volunteered at the Mullins Clothing Closet. She was a member of Mullins First Baptist Church and was the widow of W. Hoyt Harrelson.
Surviving are a daughter, Betty Jean H. Cribbs of Mullins; a brother, Hawkins Strickland of Bennettsville; three sisters, Irene S. Martin of Mullins, Anna S. Webster of Darlington and Deloris S. Waugh of Sanford, Fla.; and a grandchild.

NICHOLS - Carlene Jolly Rowell, 69, a retired nurse, died Monday in a Marion hospital. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Mount Olive Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home of Mullins, will be in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Rowell was born in Marion County, a daughter of MacKenzie Jolly and Louise Sarvis Jolly. She was a former employee with Mullins Hospital and Sunny Acres Nursing Home and she worked as a private duty nurse. She was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son, James T. Rowell of Louisiana; a daughter, Dorothy E. Garner of Nichols; and two sisters, Eloise Strickland of Nichols and Crickett Martin of Mullins.

JULIAN C. SMITH
MULLINS - Julian Campbell Smith, 76, a retired employee with AVM Inc., died Sunday in a local hospital. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today in Millers United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home, will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Smith was born in Marion County, a son of George W. Smith and Margaret Campbell Smith. He attended the University of South Carolina. He was a retired Air Force veteran who served in World War II. He was an active member of Millers United Methodist Church.
Surviving are five nephews and three nieces.

Mrs. Drew was born in Marion County, a daughter of David H. Shelley and Mary S. Williamson Shelley. She was an active member of Mullins First Baptist Church. She was first married
to the late Calvin Strickland and was the widow of Henry Drew.

TINDALL C. HERNDON
BRANCHVILLE - Retired Army Master Sgt. Tindall Clarckston Herndon, 77, a retired employee with Charleston Air Force Base, died Monday in a Columbia hospital. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Ott Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sardis cemetery with military honors.
Mr. Herndon was born in Colleton County, a son of Henry M. Herndon and Margaret E. Stevens Herndon. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, where he received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He was Methodist.
Surviving are his wife, Texanna Herndon; a son, Tindall C. Herndon Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla.; two daughters, Tina C. Herndon of Cope and Della Herndon of Jacksonville; a stepson, Robert Edwards of Virginia; three stepdaughters, Peggy Hickson, Betty Parrish and Brenda Burris, all of Virginia; two sisters, Mazie H. Ott of Branchville and Modjeska H. McCormick of Denmark; two grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and 11 stepgreat-grandchildren.

EUTAWVILLE - George A. Wright, 89, a retired custodian with Orangeburg School District No. 3 and a farmer, died Saturday in a North Charleston hospital. Mr. Wright was born in Vance, a son of Molly Wright. He attended Vance and Eutawville public schools. He was a member of the Orangeburg-Calhoun Sunday School Union. He was chairman of the former Bull School Board of Trustees. He was a Mason and a member of the St. James Elementary School PTA and the Christian Aid Society. He was an active member of Springfield Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Zelphine Smith Wright; five sons, George Wright Jr. and David Wright, both of Bronx, N.Y., Paul Wright of Rosedale, N.Y., the Rev. Bruce Wright of Aiken and Gerald Wright of Eutawville; three daughters, Lorraine Wright and Frances Lawyer, both of Bronx, and Shelia Washington of Eutawville; an adopted sister, Sarah Gourdine of Eutawville; a brother, Willie Wright of Charleston; 20 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Nettles was born in Lake City, a son of Reuben Nettles and Annie LaRue Jordon Nettles. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a member of Sullivan's Island Baptist Church.
