Annie Ard Matthews, 85, of North Charleston, a seamstress, died Friday in a Charleston hospital. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in Morris Funeral Home in Hemingway. Burial will be in Prosser cemetery near Pamplico.
Mrs. Matthews was born in Florence, a daughter of Roland Ard and Jane Ard. She attended Florence County schools. She was a member of Heritage Holiness Church. She was the widow of John Clayton Matthews.
Surviving are three daughters, Diane Mincey, Edith M. Butler and Bitha Anne Giles, all of Charleston; and two sisters, Florence Altman of Murrells Inlet and Louisa McKissick of Charleston.

JACK McRAE
JAMESTOWN - Jack McRae, 84, a retired welder with the Charleston Naval Shipyard, died Friday at his residence. The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Sunday in Dial-Murray Funeral Home in Moncks Corner. Burial will be in Carolina Memorial Gardens in North Charleston.
Mr. McRae was born in Georgetown, a son of George McRae and Jessie Ann Gaddy McRae. He was a former merchant seaman. He was a Mason and a Shriner. He was a member of the Scottish Rite and the Order of the Eastern Star. He was of the Pentecostal Holiness faith and attended Jamestown Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Stella Bishop Brunson McRae; two daughters, Sandra B. Weathers of Bowman and Fay B. Shively of Jamestown; a son, Stanley E. Brunson of Jamestown; three sisters, Maggie Cindric of Charlotte, Johnsee Terry and Vertie Sue Carpenter, both of Wadesboro, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

MOUNT PLEASANT - James Reynolds Clarkin, 71, a retired engineer with the South Division of NAFAC, died Friday in a local hospital. The rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Sunday in McAlister's Mount Pleasant Chapel.
Mr. Clarkin was born in Charleston, a son of John R. Clarkin and Mary O'Brien Clarkin. He was a graduate of Murray School and Clemson University. He was a member of the Irish Historical Society and the Island Club. He was a member of Christ Our King Catholic Church. He was the widower of Jean Rike Clarkin and of Marion Commander Clarkin.
Surviving are four sons, James R. Clarkin Jr., of Orlando, Fla., John R. Clarkin of Charleston, Ray Commander of Heyward, Ca., and Mark Commander of Aiken; four daughters, Terry Clarkin of Mount Pleasant, Melissa A. Commander of Mount Pleasant, Susan C. Davis of John's Island and Barbara Commander-Aalders of New Orleans; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Johnston was born in Williamsburg County, a daughter of David Osborne and Isabell Richburg Osborne. She was a graduate of Greeleyville High School. She was an active member of Ashley River Baptist Church and was the widow of Herbert M. Johnston.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
